  1. It seems to me if you for books that haven't arrived at the seller's, you wait until you are informed the seller has the books before you send the money.
  2. It's also missed in the body of text description ... "This copy boasts absolutely crackerjack restoration and beautifully presents as a high-grade book. The colors pop right off the page and you can almost sense the excitement readers of the era experienced upon seeing the foreboding visage of the newly-minted Batman on newsstands. The bright yellows and reds read well against the dark, gloomy brown and gray imagery. Looming above the gothic scenery is an exceptionally long-eared rendering of a troubled hero that would soon take the pop-culture world by storm. All early Detective Comics are highly sought-after, valuable, and important pieces of comic-book lore."
  3. There's a piece out back cover. Hence grade How much for the piece?
  4. Interesting question. Out of curiosity I found this on the web dated 1948. Tin Tin Le Lotus bleu. Given the time period, you might find a quicker response in the Gold Comics thread.
  5. And the book is put back up for sale in the thread if was used. Not too difficult.
  6. Telemarketers count, don't they? If they are a Nigerian prince, yes.
  7. I do love arguments backed with illustrations.
  8. If a seller can't assign a grade when the book is right in front of them -- how should I from a thousand miles away? And if they can't assign a grade, am I to be confident in their ability to recognize defects? And if they can't assign a grade, am I to assume that they pulled the asking price out of the air?
  9. Good post. Nit pick --- I am thinking that 1964 Marvels are still pre-large scale collecting days and 1965 might be a better beginning date for the availability of higher grade books.
  10. For me, these, along with Two Gun 58, are must have books. Not common to see these in such good condition. Two well chosen books to add to the collection*. *In both senses of the word, "add". Two more books in the collection numerically but also in adding to the concept behind any particular collection: the bringing together in one place items that would have less significance or meaning on their own.
  11. These are the key quotes from the second response. It doesn't seem unfair.
  12. Maybe just because its an awesome book ? It's like holding a cross up to the vampire of speculation.
  13. ... or when a PM mentioning the above is ignored. ... or when an inaccuracy is "corrected" by an "in my opinion".
  14. I do not think it is appropriate. But I had sent the seller a pm before the sale was completed letting him know I thought the book had CT in the clouds. He replied saying he did not think it was restored and then the book sold. The PM was a conscientious decision. Though one might note that, in this case, the seller did post in his text description, "Questions, please shout out."
  15. We do have a couple of experts on the boards. Perhaps they will drop by soon.
  16. As an outlier, it has as much validity as an auction book bid to the stratosphere by two rabid fans. One is celebrated as a rising tide that raises all boats; the other not so much.
  17. I noticed the same trend. Bunch of sales threads lately without grades. Even if there's a back cover scan there may be defects that aren't obvious in the scans. I agree. If you can't inspect a book first hand, you need all the info that can be reasonably provided to make a fair purchase. My example of a hypothetical sale. No grade provided by me but I will tell you it has white pages and post a back scan. My price will be between a 9.2 and a 9.4. I'll tell you that the scans speak for themselves and let you be the judge. Looks like a good deal. A Sgt. Fury fan might well snap it up. But .... black staples with tiny pitting and minor interior rust transfer from top centrefold staple. Disappointing if you don't like rust in your collection and -- though it may be but a few dollars -- overpriced.* If I was selling this ethically -- and by this I mean what would I want a seller to share with me -- I would have priced it lower, provided a grade (or qualified grade) and mentioned the staple rust. *Before anyone asks, this was a CGC 9.0 that I cracked out. I bought it for just under the the price of a 9.0. I suppose it is a 9.0. You couldn't see the issues through the slab and I have no quarrels with the vendor. Though I'd be happy to trade the rusty staples for three or four spine stresses and small ncb bend. CGC used to mention rusty staples on their labels.
  18. It's business not personal. Stop making it personal. There's nothing to gain. There are no points to win -- no pennant to take home.

  20. To be fair, GPA is what someone else paid for the book -- not something writ in stone from the mount. Higher prices happen because someone pays a higher price.
