  1. I don't see any spine roll, but I do see a split on the bottom and it looks like it might be a bit weak further up. You don't want to cause further spine damage and I'm not sure if pressing is going to do much anyway. What are the defects you'd like to see removed? Looks like a very nice lower grade copy! Congrats!
  2. I feel like I'm in the minority. The missus and I watched the first episode last night and both enjoyed it. I didn't have any problems with the acting or writing. I especially liked that it wasn't as heavy, angst ridden and dark as Daredevil or Jessica Jones, and also that the extreme violence was toned down a little.
  3. After January 17 2016 the maximum weight for First-Class Package increased from 12.99 oz to 15.99 oz. Also, the rate for First-Class Packages under 8 oz. is a flat $2.60, which simplifies lightweight package pricing.
  4. And it makes no sense to ship via Media Mail anyway since First Class rates went down and weight limits went up.
  5. Thanks, Sharon! That's where it's signed "Kang" lower right under the castle. Hate to be Debbie Downer, but that looks like a piece of homegrown fan art to me. I’d be really surprised if it was something a Disney shop sold.
  6. The Iron Mans date from right before I started buying them off the stands; #82 was the first. Although I'm a run collector, I don't have the wherewithal of a *bronze age fan* to go after every single issue of the reprint titles, especially since I'm collecting the original books, but I do pick up the ones with original covers. They have a sort of fresh quality since I haven't seen those versions 5,000 times like the originals.
  7. I see a bit of Gil Kane in there, but it doesn't look like one of his compositions or work. I wonder if Giacoia (or Giacoia and Esposito) finished it from a Kane breakdown? Reminds me a little of Sal Buscema, too, but just vaguely.
  8. Same here. The Mr. Fish cover was probably one of the first dozen or so comics I ever bought. And the you guys saw the Tuska/Colletta interiors and died a little inside.
  9. But Mr. Fish looked pretty badass on the cover. Enough so to make my 11 year old hand pull it from the spinner rack to buy, one of my earliest purchases.
  10. Nice pics! I'll get to it. Scanning during office hours is a no no. Unlike filling your office with short boxes of comics.
  11. I pulled it along with a Spellbound #32 from a stack that hadn’t been priced yet last week. Didn’t have the dough for both and since I prefer the horror/fantasy to the humor titles, went home with the Spellbound. However, thoughts of Barney continued to haunt me through the week, culminating in a dream last night in which I went back to buy it and found it marked down to $9 as well as just one copy of several that were in stock. I took this as a sign to hustle my down there before it sold. I think they can be tough to come by. All Severin stories except for one, and Barker is like a cross between Phil Silvers and Stan Lee.
  12. This thread needs bumpage. Inspired by BAF’s unwavering committment to the obscure and forlorn '50s funnybooks from Atlas, I went to the LCS at lunch and picked up my first Sgt. Barney Barker.
  13. Isn't it, tho? I'd love to see them displayed in groups by week of distribution, laid out on an old-school, wooden, comic rack! Of all the books posted on the boards, I enjoy looking at BAF's group shots of the obscure, oddball ones more than anything else.
  14. Isn't it, tho? I'd love to see them displayed in groups by week of distribution, laid out on an old-school, wooden, comic rack! Thanks boys! Not on a cool rack, but these were the only three comics published from Atlas cover dated 10/57. The dreaded implosion month! Those are all books I've never run across.
  15. That went quick. On to the next topic of discussion. If at first you don't succeed....
  16. The very first comic store I went to was the Comic Kingdom run by Bill Cole. I think it was only open on specific days, and it was in some weird industrial type building. (The Colonial Village Mall in Quincy, according to Mackenzie999.) I wish I could remember the specifics of the location, but it was 40 years ago and my folks are gone and my memory of that aspect is a little hazy. I suppose I could just email him. The comics were on staggered/tiered wall units, I don’t recall going through boxes. Walking in and seeing those old books from the 60s, which at the time seemed as long ago as the turn on the century, was amazingly magical. I bought my first back issues there: Marvel Tales 1 (recommended by Bill for the young reader) FF 48-50, ASM 44 and 45. They remain in my collection, except for the FF 49 and Marvel Tales; I think I sold or traded those as a kid. I also got my Origins of Marvel Comics and Son of Origins there; they’re dog-eared now but still on my bookshelf. From Bill I found out about the local monthly show, The Sunday Funnies at the Boston Howard Johnson's and run by Don Phelps. The monthly show spoiled me a bit. When more comic shops opened up in the ensuing years, I didn’t find any of them a good source for back issues – you could always get much better deals and selection at the show.
  17. Congrats! Quite an accomplishment! I agree with the others...solid looking #1. Some Marvel Chipping, but the cover image (especially Spidey) is pretty clean. Nice and congrats! #1- #300; so round, so firm, so fully packed!
