  1. Woo-hoo! Only one more week until the US limited theatrical premiere of Shin Ultraman! Two days only, original Japanese with English subtitles on January 11th and the dubbed version on the 12th.
  2. This exactly, plus everything namisgr said. *If* two books were fairly identical except for PQ a white pager *should* result in more $ as it would indicate a greater state of preservation and some people will automatically pay more, *but* (there's always a big but) since CGC's designations vary so much, unless I could see the pages myself it would come down to eye appeal and price for me.

  4. Thread necromancy! Here's some more Silver of mine from the neighboring suburbs of best books.
  5. 27 days later... I did go, but was pressed for time so I may not be the most qualified judge. I only had about an hour to spare including 10 minutes of travel each way. I found Linda Miller, got the photo signed and a picture taken. Thankfully, she brought a picture up, I was in such a rush it may not have occurred to me. I was not in much of a buying mood but what I saw wasn't exactly conducive to spending money. One fellow had a nice setup of vintage toys, including a lot of Japanese stuff but nothing in my son's wheelhouse. The comics tables were mostly meh, crazy prices and mediocre condition. If I felt like fishing I might've come up with something but it would have been work. There were plenty of tchotchke sellers. After I made a pass through the room I chatted with a friend of mine who'd set up for a bit and hit the road. So I guess my take is that unless I was in the neighborhood I'd probably pass. Tickets were a bit steep for what you get, too.
  6. There's ALWAYS comic related gifts at the Pontoon Palace. Here's some straight up funnybooks from the missus and junior: My son has a pretty extensive collection of Bandai Ultraman and Godzilla guys. New additions this year included the new limited edition Varan and Showa era Anguiras, from board member Crowzilla: A Mego Hammer Films Reptile: Three Ultraman series plus the Yokai Monsters Blu-Rray set: No superhero calendars this year, but a vintage movie poster and a literary classics calendar with wonderful deco-style illustrations for classics like Frankenstein, Dracula, The Raven, War of the Worlds etc. And a great book on the history of Aurora models. This is cheating a bit, but I figured I'd add in my birthday presents from a few weeks back, a re-pop of the Aurora Forgotten Prisoner and an NECA Wolfman figure. (My son explained that it was actually a gift for me *and* him.)
  7. I was referring to you. I had to quote because your response hit the boards faster than mine. "When the horror of what I was witnessing dawned on me I rushed to get my shoes on"
  8. Wow, look at all those price guides. I'd love to pitch the majority of mine but can't bring myself to do it yet. They take up too much room.
  9. If you change this to “lowest first” and cut out the ‘best match” option. Count the books in the $2 - $10 range Plenty of cheap sales , to offset the knee-jerk reactionary buyers with more cash than sense Yes, plenty of $2-$10 sales, as it should be, but that was before the announcement. Change it to "recent sales" and everything is crazy high. Ebay was cleaned out and only pricey copies are for sale now, a la ever other movie hype initial announcement book of the last several years. After Key Collector adds it to the trending list, prices will still be ridiculous for a while at least.
  10. I've never sold any movie hype books I bought off the racks but for the first time I'm tempted.
  11. If you're an Ultra fan, Shin Ultraman is finally having a US release, playing a limited engagement on January 11 (subtitled) and 12 (dubbed). Fathom Events is distributing it, so it will probably be playing at AMC, Regal or Cinemark theaters. I got my tix from the local AMC website, they are also available on the Fathom website. The trailer looks good and Japanese artist Hiroshi Kanatani recommended it when I met him at Fan Expo this summer. Apologies for interrupting Dr.X's thread, but I thought this might be of general interest.
  12. Based on what I've seen from GoCollect, GPA is a far more accurate gauge of FMV, keeping in mind it's a guide and shouldn't be read like stock market indices. Monthly cost is about the same as a few moderns or cups of coffee, so it's a no-brainer for my toolbox.
  13. Because the folks who think a 1983 newsstand copy denotes extra rarity and value are wacky!
  14. we shall see. i am very out of the loop. And he even finally made an avatar no less!
