  2. Definitely knew this was going to be an obstacle for a lot of folks (had to tell my wife to not make any travel plans before I committed to setting up at the show), so I am anticipating a smaller turnout compared to the first event. Regardless, all the vendors will still be there with books from all eras. Hope you can make it, and have a great holiday weekend either way!
  3. All of this. Highly recommend MCS to save you the time and headache that comes with ebay. As indicated above, you will deal with nutjobs. Comic collectors are extremely picky and particular about different things, and I count myself among this group. Save yourself the trouble and use MyComicShop.
  4. made this same decision myself early 2021, though I'm still sitting on all a majority of these "key" books until I see some improvement. Recently shipped out 1x Express, 2x Standard, and 4x Economy FT after more than year of not submitting, will see how they do....
  5. And despite this disparity, people are still quick to praise CGC for the good work....
  6. Think it's a little too close for that, but I'll definitely forward that info to the organizers. I think they had a hard time as it is booking a weekend at this particular community venue with an already busy Con schedule here in So Cal (specifically SDCC and Torpedo). Though now that Torpedo is not happening, it might've made it easier. Also think that all vendor spaces are full (last I checked, 50 vendors/private collectors with at least one table space, not counting those that might've gotten more than once space); so even if it was moved, might not have free space for some of those dealers that would have otherwise set-up at Torpedo. I appreciate that feedback, I know the organizers worked really hard getting a date in July at this venue as early as January/February.
  7. BUMP! Less than 2 weeks away! Tons of free parking, free admission, and about 50 confirmed vendors (dealers and private collectors). I can guarantee you'd find better deals here than a big Con, and I say this as a frequent buyer. Most of the vendors here are selling to buy, which usually means there are deals to be had!
  8. I've gone to the Ontario show every year it's been held (with the exception of the last/most recent one), and I think I've only every seen Golden Age books amongst one or two vendors for the first two years, seemed to have dipped down from there. Major bummer about Torpedo. Just gets harder and harder to have good shows here in Southern California outside of the insanity that is SDCC.
  9. Bumping this up considering the next closest comic show in the area (Torpedo Collector's Con) being held on July 16-17 was "postponed". As a collector myself, I cannot stress enough how great it is to have a strictly comic book show in the southern California area. If you don't want to deal with the massive scale of SDCC or the mark-up that comes with it, I highly encourage everyone to make plans to attend this show.
  10. You know, I did hesitate making my post for that same reason. Though I ultimately viewed the thread topic as someone asking if this show was happening this year vs an official announcement for the show. I figured I’d just let any collectors in the area know what was going on. Point taken
  11. This. I'm frequently asked whether I think modern books that have this corner chip can still hit a 9.8.... I usually respond with "send it to CGC and find out?" From my experience, I've gotten books back as a 9.8 with either a very small tic that just barely bleeds onto the front cover or the corner ship on the top/bottom of the spine. So to OP's question: it can still be a 9.8.
  12. Thank you for providing that feedback! From my perspective as a vendor for the first show, the foot traffic was GREAT! I genuinely didn't have a moment to sit down until about an hour before the advertised end time of the show (and even then I still had a few people digging well past 3pm). Free parking and free entry = more money for comic books!
  13. I'll see you all at Torpedo Con 2022!
  14. Very glad to read this! My hope was to make sure we spread the word beyond just social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook, as I know there are still many traditional comic collectors that don't regularly use these. Please feel free to spread the word amongst other collectors you know, and let me know if you have any other questions I might be able to help with.
  15. BUMP! We don't have enough viable options here in Southern California in terms of smaller comic only shows, so this show's success will only benefit the local comic community at large. Please spread the word to any other local collectors you may know!
  16. Bumping this up, a little more than a month away! In case anyone is wondering, I'll be setting up at the show myself (A-One's Comics)

  18. Wow... this is the ultimate example of redundancy and waste. If the spine is "96% split" why would they bother indicating 3 specific areas on the spine that were split . Nice to know where the graders choose to inconsistently allocate their time... guess their still working on creating "Standard Work" with those efficiency experts?
  19. This is a great looking copy! Looked better than the 6.5 I had posted previously (mine had more visible spine tics and corner creasing). I did end-up upgrading to an 8.5 though.
  20. some of the third-party's will ship it directly to CGC for you. some also give you a volume discount if submitting in bulk. on top of that, you are directly supporting a small business/someone in the collectible community that will potentially give you visibility to some of their process (I say some because some of them claim to use secret formulas), before/after pictures, and they'll get it all done in about 1/6 of the amount of time CCS takes... but sure, keep giving your money to CCS/CGC.
  21. YOU LOVE TO SEE IT! I've been seeing a huge amount of lower grade bronze age books filling up ebay and Mercari... many of the descriptions say "presents much better than grade given/send for regrading/crack and press". Many Moon Knight books (the infamous black covers) with GLARING spine tics and creases that no one in their right mind should ever sent for grading.
  22. Although they advertise first in/first out, there have been numerous reports of this occurring lately. People have modern submissions received or sitting in Scheduled for Grading since June, yet their more recent submission are turned around in a matter of one or two days. While it's great they found a way to do things quicker, its a big "F-You" to everyone that's been waiting for months now....
  23. I took the below screenshot from an Instagram post made by a shop owner who sends a pretty good amount of Modern submissions on a regular basis. This "new process" would explain these crazy quick turnarounds for Modern submissions that are popping up (saw a few other postings on Instagram of people asking WTF?). Sucks for everyone else not chosen for the great experiment and that have been waiting months now. Hopefully it gets implemented across the board soon....
  24. Shipped 9/7/2021 Not too bad.... 24 out of 27 passed prescreen. Though grader notes seem to indicate that there was some damage/mishandling on a few that were at the top of the stack of my submission. I'm over this whole damn process .
  25. They're not going to that, because then we'd have yet another thing to complain about when our books aren't graded by the "Scheduled By" date . Not sure if anyone else has every noticed when receiving Pre-Screen rejects, but they used to sent them back with the CGC barcode label they use internally. This label indicated the submission number, when it was received, as well as an internal due date. The rejects I've gotten this year have all been graded well past that due date....
