  2. I think asking dealers around the country what something is worth is open for manipulation too. If I bought a warehouse find of 1000 copies of a certain issue, I'm going to tell Overstreet it's worth more than it is. And the fact that it is a sanity check on outrageous swings is part of its downside. Try buying an Ultimate Fallout #4 for the price in the latest OPG. That's just one example. How about a Hulk 449 now that the Thunderbolts movie was announced. I don't have an OPG in front of me at the moment, but I'm going to guess it's priced much lower than what you can buy today.
  3. I've got a question about selling collections that I'll tack on here. I recently bought a collection of 700 comics. Guy was selling them buy the box, and I picked the 4 best boxes. I'm listing the best 100 or so this weekend in the VCC, possibly more in bundle deals. They range from VG silver age to an ASM 252 in 7.5-8.0. For the lower grade stuff, I really don't want to look up the value of each one on eBay. Anyone have any tips for pricing? Thinking about doing a % off of the latest Overstreet.
  4. Not sure if I agree with the sentiment that eBay fees are what's driving comic prices higher. eBay has charged fees since its inception. Before covid, comic prices saw a pedestrian increase year over year. Not 10% every time a comic changed hands.
  5. This is the point I think most miss. They're thinking in terms of fees. "Why would I want to give eBay 15% of my sale when I can sell it myself for no fees. Or sell on isellcomics dot com for no fees". Well, I'd rather pay 15% and get $1000 than sell myself for $800 paying no fees.
  6. It seems insane to me that LCS's pay for rent, plus employee salaries, plus utilities that comes right off the top. Whereas I can reach many more people than my LCS gets in foot traffic, for just 15% of what sells. Seems economical to me.
  7. I have the 3 Illustrated hardbacks (2 signed by Neal). My complaint (and I'm not the only one) is how he recolored them all, giving them an almost 3D CGI shading look to them. I like my collected editions to be high quality reprints of the originals, not modern improvements. Just like we all want the original Star Wars trilogy movies released unedited, I would love to see a Neal Adams collected edition with original colors.
  8. Taken at the CGC Dinner at SDCC 2006.
  9. This is my son's ASM 45 that he got for his 11th birthday 2 days ago. I bought it here from @crassus
  10. Thanks for the replies, that is helpful. I didn't even think of that being caused by stacking. I assumed it was when the cover and pages were turned back when reading. Makes sense. As far as grading, looks like I shouldn't grade a comic with a curl any better than 9.0, and that is assuming it doesn't have other defects.
  11. I’m glad to hear that’s a topic discussed here. I’ve received a few packages lately and wove a tapestry of obscenities that still hangs over Lake Erie while trying to get to my comics without bending them out of tape frustration.
  12. I have several comics that look 9.0-9.4-ish, but have a wave along the spine from reading. How much does that bring down the grade? I realize this is probably correctible with a press. I can post pics later, but noticed a pic in the PGM board that reflected this very thing: https://boards.cgccomics.com/topic/506404-pgm-wolverine-8/
  13. I'm thinking the corners are too blunted for a 9.0. So 8.0-8.5.
  14. Rob

    oops...

Absolutely right! There are scammers out there trying to sell fake, reproductions, counterfeit comics, coins, etc to suckers. When I buy a professionally graded collectible, I am paying more for the piece of mind that authenticity has been validated by experts. When that starts breaking down, that really hurts the credibility of the service.
  15. I was glad to see the 9.8, as that's what my guess was from looking. Maybe a 9.6 for some micro abrasions along the edges. Then I read all the 9.0's and 9.2's and really doubted my grading skills. "What am I missing?" I don't have an issue with that as 9.8.
  16. Sounds like an area I need to research for flipping, and keep an eye out for.
  17. Spent $1200 on roughly 700 comics, so about $1.71 ea. Would love to 10X my investment, but some are worth $100 and some worth $2. So not sure if makes sense to price them all at $17 each. But to your point, I'm more interested in eventually selling them all for $10k+ than worrying about profit margin per comic. I'll bundle the lower priced ones for sure.
  18. Thanks for the advice. I've been an eBay seller for 25 years, and have sold comics here and there, but never an entire collection like this. It's going to be fun, and I figure a major shift in the focus of my eBay store. A labor of love for sure. In no hurry to sell them all.
  19. OK, bought my first collection and need some advice on selling them. Figured I'd add to this thread than start a new one. Few questions: Mylar and fullbacks on ALL bronze/silver books you sell, or can I use BCW bags & boards on the comics under $50? I have hundreds, and with the price of mylars and fullbacks now (I'm paying what I have to just to get some), I'd rather use BCW when I can. What do you use for pricing raw comics? I know Overstreet isn't of much use in these times. eBay completed sales? GPA for similar grade, or no? When listing and selling hundreds of comics, do you open and inspect each one, or just roll the dice and offer refunds if there's an issue. Again, talking about under $50 comics. I'll check every page of the good ones.
