  1. How about for $250? If they cost $250 they'd be even better, right? Jack shrewd!
  2. yeah, if you liked that one for $25, hold on...I've got a few more...
  3. Big thanks to Sterlingcomics for a large whack of great horror slabs. Amazing job with the packing!!! Andy
  4. I don't think "blame" is the proper word here...I would say that both of you were equally at "fault" here but it's not to a world ending degree...chalk it up to a learning experiance... (thumbs u
  5. On second thought, Shep, I don't think you should do this....
  6. rough them up a bit as they're too nice for your collection
  7. Although the majority of times I do get an email from Paypal showing new funds have entered my account, sometimes that email never comes. I've had this happen to me probably 4 times. As the seller, I probably wouldn't dig through my Paypal invoices right away, but I would send another reminder to the buyer regarding payment. That should have cleared things up right away. I see this as SZ's fault, unfortunately, but I believe Uber should have replied to SZ's PM (3 days after he agreed to buy the items). After this, I believe Uber will send friendly PM's or emails stating how his payment has been sent or is coming shortly. This is something that never should have happened, and could have easily been avoided. First apologize and then probably never deal with each other again. Andy
  8. I wanted to reply to this earlier today, but haven't had the time till now. Shep, if your main goal is to get that 101 issue run, then keep at it. If there's nothing on the market to fill those holes, and you find yourself with extra cash, pick up a nice silver age beauty. I agree with aman, dig through your raw copies and try sending off the most likely candidates to bring you that 9.4 grade. If you want to have a reading copy of each of these as well, then hang on to your raw copies. If you want to create a bit of cash for your future purchases, you may decide to have another board sale, and sell off your duplicates. I believe the most important thing and best advice is for you to collect what you like and enjoy. For me, the older Big Five books give me the greatest pleasure to own, and a fantastic feeling when they're in grade. For you, it seems to be high grade bronze, and that works very well for me as I don't care tooooooo much for that period. If you want to pick up more silver age books, sure that conflicts with me, but who cares? If that's what you want, go for it! Buy a book that you like and you'll never be disappointed. (thumbs u
  9. Shep, I forgot to mention how great these books are! I guess now I know why they were never offered to me.... Andy
  10. Thanks a lot, Park! I appreciate the kind words. Andy
  11. Great post, Mick! I love reading about other people's renditions of "the good old days". I started reading these great books when I was about 10 years old, and I'm just 34 now. Sgt. Rock, Haunted Tank, and the Unknown Soldier, I absolutely loved them. As I only started to seriously collect them around 1991, I don't have any stories of the good old days. My good old days really weren't that long ago. However for me, in the beginning I started to buy any book from the Big Five, the best that I could afford. I always tried for nice higher grade stuff, but there really wasn't much of it at all. At the rate my collection was growing, I'd never complete anything. I started to notice that these books in nice grade and even mid-grade, were genuinely scarce, and if I wanted a collection of any size I was going to have to drop my standards. So, from that point on, I picked up whatever I could find, still trying for the better books, but not very picky with grade. I found that this mode of collecting was best suited for me, I was happy buying the books that I love and I loved to see my collection growing as it was. Now as I near the end of my goal, I realize that there will be no end for me. I will achieve my goal, but my collecting will not cease to exist. There will always be that strong desire to buy a higher grade copy, and so upgrading will be my ongoing challenge for the future. Sometimes, in order to finance bigger purchases, you need to let go of your under copies. But, there's also something in me that doesn't want to let my under copies go. Although I have sold many DC war books, I feel it's not an easy thing to do (unless I have many copies of something). This shows the strong connection that a Big Fiver has with his/her books. I believe that this is something that is not as prevalent in any other collecting genre. But hey, what do I know. Andy
  12. Thanks Keith, and good to know. I don't see many DC war books ready for sale in any of Heritage's auctions right now, though. Only one lot with 3 NM Our Fighting Forces bronze age books. If I'm mistaken, please send me a link. I'll be watching throughout the next couple of months. (thumbs u Andy
  13. Thanks again, Keith. I'm looking forward to what's coming up. Here's a lot of 7 OAAW's uncertified that I picked up, from the first offering of Keith's books, for $155. Before I received these I wasn't sure why I bid, now that I see them, I am as pleased as punch! First up, #138 (1st Sparrow) #201 Northland Collection (Great cover!) Northland certificate for that #201 (not really sure it's a 9.2, but it's certainly nice) #188 (Decent shape/cool cover) #178 (I think that nearly every Joe Kubert cover is a masterpiece!!!) #144 (Nice high grade gem) #129 Probably the lowest grade in the bunch (and it's not bad at all), and what a wonderful cover!) #33 (A lower grade, but it's by far my most treasured one here; early and Fine or better, can't beat that combination!) Thanks for looking guys and gals, I hope you liked them as much as I do. (thumbs u Andy
  14. Ooh, I like that Maneely cover! Nice!! Andy
  15. I think you did extremely well with your purchases. None of those are easy books in those grades and you were basically paying around guide + shipping. Thanks a lot, I'm very happy with them. I'll post some books tonight from my first Heritage auction win in July. Andy
  16. Good question, I have a feeling someone here bought some, if not all, of those books. (not implying you, Shep) Andy
  17. Thanks, that's why I grabbed them, all of the attention was on GIC and OAAW. Cheers for not bidding! (thumbs u Andy
  18. Here's another couple of CGC 7.5's for decent prices, IMO. SSWS #10 $131 http://comics.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=17082&Lot_No=17490 SSWS #21 $77 http://comics.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=17082&Lot_No=17492 Andy
  19. I need another source for war books, not eBay....or Heritage for that matter Andy
  20. yeah. Thats the thing about this auction, and the way it goes in general. War books like these never come up for sale in such decent grades. So the frenzy produced 10x prices since who knows when they will appear again? But, ironically, these prices will only flush out more copies. Then we will see if the "highest graded" holds up, and an idea as to just how many more comparable copies are out there. But, unless the die hard DC war collectors really sniff a peek in pricing and are tempted to get out, I dont think we will see the real picture as to scarcity for a long time. Because I dont think these guys will be tempted to sell. Was GI Combat 80 a key? or just a sweet greytone Heath cover? Or considered scarcer than the others? I really hope that some new books come out of the woodwork now. Even if I don't own them, it's just amazing to see them. It is near impossible to get DC war collector's to sell their best books, something akin to pulling hen's teeth. As Shep mentioned, GIC 80 is not a key, but a supa-scarce book in grade. In fact, I don't often see many low grade copies of that one either. Andy
