  1. creases around the spine keep this in the 5s probably. Usual caveat that IDK anything about grading GA books
  2. 4.5±0.5. I agree. Going higher would require some less harsh grading for square bound-specific issues, but the main defects I see (creases) have nothing to do with that. Based on recent ebay sales and GoCollect tracking, currently the FMV is around $350 graded. Getting it slabbed would cost $70-100 depending on pressing & shipping choices. So, if you did get a 4.5 you'd probably come out a couple dollars ahead. If you like the book though, it shouldn't matter that much
  3. 7.0±0.5 based on the tearing around the center of the spine, the little piece out of the bottom right of the back cover, and it looks like there might be a little tearing around the bottom left of the front. Book looks very nice though, and a neat one to have
  4. 6.5±0.5 I would have been a grade or so higher but there are several issues with that back cover like the whatever between SA LE. I think the front looks 7.0/7.5 so down from there.
  5. @Every Day A Story@grendelbo CGC should offer discounted super-express service for any book board participants can come to some form of consensus on For the record, I'm at 8.0±0.5. I've got a couple of 7.0s and 7.5s that I think this is better than. I've started to wonder if Kolfax Mingo, who is listed as the writer, is a real person or some invention of the Marvel bullpen. I can only find 6 SSS that ?he? wrote and no other biographical information anywhere. Given it's Star Wars related, I find it hard to believe this person could remain completely anonymous and have no mention in Google-able records other when referencing these SSS.
  6. I see something 9.2 or higher. You're lucky to have the Pulse-Pounding PREMIERE Issu
  7. Thanks. Personally, I'm somewhere in the middle. There's a light scratch around "The Electric Company" (these things always seem to photograph worse than they appear, which is a good thing for IDing defects). But you're 100% right between the black cover and the full color back it's hard to find a copy that doesn't look like in went 3 rounds with Chewbacca.
  8. Given the book, I'd like to see some close-ups of the corners and a side view of the spine. When I look at the enlargement by clicking through, the image isn't sharp enough for me to be comfortable signing off on a high grade. I see what could be a small amount of color rub on the top left edge. The pages look like they might be slightly out of square on the bottom right corner. In other words, I don't notice any big defects but there could be some small ones that are easy to miss with these images.
  9. Is that a tear and/or crease to the right of the H in Rulah?
  10. I contacted customer service and submissions answered, not someone from signature series. I submitted comics and a magazine in March, and Claremont did the signing in April. I got the comics back in early June. I contacted customer service about the magazine a few weeks later and I got the standard "6-8 weeks turnaround" response for sig series books. It still says the magazine is "Received at CCS" in my submissions queue. I assumed there was a backlog for magazine pressing. Then 2 magazines from other July signings got processed through pressing and are "Scheduled for Grading" now. The response I got from submissions customer service after contacting them this week was "It appears that we still have some Chris Claremont books that have not been signed yet. We are currently working on trying to get the remainder of these books signed". This makes no sense to me since the signing was months ago. Is he coming in again soon? Maybe this is possible, it just doesn't seem likely to me since he's only done 1 in-house even for CGC per year recently.
  11. I'd been hunting a decent copy of this one for a while and finally found one that wasn't overpriced. I got a decent deal b/c it was part of a SSS bundle that went for as much/less than I've seen this book go on a solo sale in lower grade. I feel like any SSS that doesn't look like it was abused by a 4-year-old who's learning to read is a win, and this one looks pretty good considering that target demo. The corners aren't perfect. I did briefly think the white above the issue number was color rub, but it's the art (Spidey's web). If you've never looked at this book and are a Star Wars fan, I highly recommend giving it a once over. The people who worked on SSS had a good sense of (absurd) humor.
  12. I haven't sent it yet. I'm waiting for a bundle of books to come back from CGC (all sent prior to starting to participate here, and most I don't have any photos of). When I go to pick those up, I'll drop some more off and I think this one will probably make the cut.
  13. I only state >9.2 b/c I don't believe in the accuracy of my picks using photos at higher grades. To grade or not to grade can be a very personal decision as @grendelbo states. Right now, you can buy a 9.8 in the neighborhood $120-150 and a 9.6 for <$100. Grading is going to run you >$50 (inc. shipping) and another $15 if you want them to press it. You'd be close to break even with a 9.6 at today's prices and would come out a little ahead with a 9.8. I've got my copy out as a possible signature book for Todd McFarlane and I'm waiting for the actual announcement after CGC announced that they would be announcing a signing opportunity "soon." I haven't actually decided yet, and will also have to consider the ROI. The Angela character has some potential upside. Always rumored to crop up in a movie. On the other hand, all these 90s books had enormous print runs. There are already >6000 graded copies out there, and ~3000 of those are 9.8s. Not exactly an investment book.
  14. 5.5±0.5. I think a 6.0 is possible if you get the results on the C&P you've been seeing. It would be great if the discoloration along the back spine and the spots around the ad body shaming you would come off with that.
  15. 6.0±0.5. More + than - though. I assume CGC doesn't penalize the front cover ink showing through? The tanning/foxing is the biggest issue that might make me wrong. I'd say 7ish if not for the scuffing on the front top edge.
  16. >9.2. Double check the back cover, but I'm pretty sure the deviations from flatness are a light/photo thing, not real.
  17. I has something similar with the Thanos 13 I posted over the weekend. Easiest defect repair ever.
  18. I'm not as confident those two spine corners press out to >9.0, but I've been proven wrong many times. I think 8.0 is about right as is. There's also what appears to be some color rub on the back. As for whether or not to grade, it depends on your goal. If it's something you want to preserve for personal reasons, go nuts. Beyond that, it depends on your future plans for any book and its value. The cheapest CGC pressing/grading/shipping will be north of $80. Speculating aside, I'd want a book to be valued around $150-200 in the condition it is to entertain grading (i.e. I'd want guarantee doing better than break even with my investment if I ended up selling). This is a newsstand, so it's a little more in demand than a direct copy. I checked ebay sells really quickly. A CGC 8.5 sold for <$120, but there are high grade raw copies selling for <$50. For me personally, I wouldn't consider this a grading candidate (unless there was value beyond $$$ to me).
  19. 5.5±0.5 w/C&P. I kinda wanted to go to 6.0, even with that wear on the spine, which isn't too bad. I'm a little curious about the semi-circle by the word jet. Is that a pen mark or something?
  20. I'm going with 5.0±0.5 b/c I'm finding that I need to add ~1.0 onto the grade I would give a copper/bronze with similar defects when I assess a GA comic
  21. 2.0/2.5 I think the big tear and the tanning set your ceiling pretty low, but your lucky it looks nice enough to enjoy.
  22. Same. Until I saw the other photo with the back open, and it's clear there's no paper. That's going to hurt you on the grading contest point system, maybe a -1
