  1. 6ish Enough discoloration to set expectations a little lower
  2. 1/8/2.0. I'd guess the higher b/c of the issue it is.
  3. 8.0/8.5 I'm a little concerned about the apparent paper oxidation around the edges
  4. 9.0, looks like a quick press could take the bends out of the back cover and maybe boost the grade a bit
  5. My X-Men 49 looks only slightly better than this & got 7.5. I'm going with an optimistic 7.0 since maybe the CGC graders have a soft spot for these early X-Men books
  6. The spot on the top of the back cover doesn't really look like surface dirt to me, but I don't have it in hand. If that's a little stain, 7.5/8.0. If it can be cleaned, around 9.0. From what I've been told, the metallic/cardstock cover is not one that's receptive to pressing. When my (totally boring direct copy) went in, it was one of the few books my presser sent in as-is, and we routinely press everything as a precautionary measure.
  7. 2.5. Maybe 3.0, but that's seems like pushing it to me
  8. 6.0/6.5 CGC's book is a little curious about "holes" as it treats them separately than tears, and sets a lower limit of 6.0. However, I can't imaging that holds for every possible hole
  9. Not sure my bad eyes (or obsolete laptop screen) see the rusty staples, nevertheless, the CGC book says 6.0-9.6 is the acceptable range for some staple rust. I would expect the rusty staples not to factor in too much here given the other little imperfections. 6.5/7.0
  10. I might have gone as high as 6.0 without the chipping. I'm going to expect a lesser penalty b/c it's on the back, so 5.0ish.
  11. I'll split the difference and say 5.5. The reader crease along knocks it down to a 6.0, and there is some other creasing, so definitely lower.
  12. is there a tear in the lower left? Hard to guess on a tape pull, it's one of the things with a wide range of possibilities. By the CGC book, the supposed lower limit is 4.0. Given the age of the book, it might not get hit quite as hard as something that was a couple of decades newer. I'll guess 5.0/5.5 (I have a bronze age with a similar sized pull on the back, it's a 7.0). Cool book, except for the Hitler stamp ad. Weird that it would be a money making operation just a few years after WWII ended. Seems like you can get the same collection for a few bucks on ebay 7 decades later. I guess inflation hasn't hit that kind of memorabilia yet
  13. Recent acquisition. Tried to have Don Rosa signed a couple of books in July, he was a bit prickly about witnessed signatures & sent me away. Fortunately, my handler convinced him to sign the books later in the weekend. I did as Don what his first published artwork was, and he said Seraphim 4 (the back cover despite what the TOC says). After some scrounging around, I found this fanzine for a decent price. Some other interesting artwork. A Wolverton centerfold & a Wrightson ?Conan? (also not in the TOC). Certainly one of the earlier published Wrightson things, but there's a lot of his stuff that started coming out in 1969.
  14. There appear to be a decent number of spots with loss of black ink. Hard to say how significant since the photos aren't that high res. Upper limit 9.0, more like 8.0/8.5. I wouldn't send this for grading. Too many little things that could tip the scales to an unsatisfying result.
