  1. Depends on whether it was a recent buy that has been flipped or a long term holder of the book. Recent sales: $50,750 Nov 10 Curator 9.6 W $37,344 Nov 10 9.6 OWW $32,999 May 11 9.6 OWW $31,501 Aug 11 Twin City 9.6 OWW pressed from 9.4 If its the 2nd or 3rd listed above then $28,575 (the amount of the current sale after CL commission) isn't so good.
  2. +1 We have discussed it before and I have always been in the camp that Cap #1 is the top Timely GA key book, just like AF #15 is the most important SA (and Timely/Atlas/Marvel overall). -1 Nah, I just don't buy this point of view at all. Although Cap is a bigger name than either Subby or the Human Torch, he is still only a 2nd tier character at best and still not generally known in the public domain. All of this positive energy for Cap at the moment is just based upon the current movie hype. Remember how "Tec #27 was able to overtake Action #1 for a short period of time due to all of the movie hype. When all was said and done, Action #1 took back its rightful place as the #1 book, even though Sups has not been as popular Bats over the past decade and more. If Cap can't overtake Marvel #1 with the current hype, I don's see how he is going to be able to do it over the long-run once the current movie hype dies back down. In addition, Marvel Comics #1 came out in 1939 and Cap #1 came out much later in 1941 when comic books were already well established. That difference in time is much much more than a simple 2 years from a collecting point of view. +1 for MC #1 being the book I would also buy a Cap #1 as well
  3. Page quality to some extent but Marvel chipping also has an impact on price. GPA is a useful tool but one needs to be wary on keys as marvel chipping can have a detrimental effect on value regardless of a comics technical grade.
  4. That is an odd assumption or translation of what happened. I feel a lot like Caira on this one, and I probably wouldn't have done what Michael did. But in Michael's defense, there are lot of books that I would like to have in 9.6 that I would have absolutely no interest in in 8.5. Why should he have to get something absolutely worthless to him just because it was donated? If Beau insisted he keep the books, that is on Beau, not Michael. Chances are they could have been re-posted and someone else would have picked them up. No harm, no foul. I think Michael is great and I think Beau is great. I think what this Board does for the down and out is amazing. That's my In the quote I'm talking generally about bidding on a benefit auction hence "such an auction" rather than the specific auction. It seems that at the price paid he could have just moved the books on and he would have been made whole. In that scenario there wasn't really much point complaining to the seller that he overgraded the books as he could adequately be made whole anyway and Beau has efffetively made a contribution twice the size he had initially intended. Agree the Board does help where it can.
  5. I was the one that made the $50 contribution - not Beau. realised that and was in mid correction when you posted (thumbs u
  6. I always thought for a benefit auction a buyer should overpay for a comic that way the beneficiary benefits from funds from the seller and the buyer of a comic. It seems strange to me that a buyer in such an auction would make money out of anothers charitable contribution and the beneficiary's difficulties. Glad to see that mschmidt made a $50 contribution.
  7. check the start of this thread. The 2 9.4 asking prices on Pedigree and CL were $20k and $18k
  8. It used to be a 9.2, and CGC should never have upgraded it to a 9.4, even after the book got cleaned. Actually.. guess I was wrong, the 9.4 Flash 105 is a newly graded copy (along with the 9.0 Adventure 247). I guess it does make sense, CGC may have had their loose periods before but never as loose or soft as they are right now. Maybe I should get mine regraded.
  9. +1 The CGC 9.2 is most certainly a six figure book at this time. (thumbs u Based on what? The asking price Based on that it is worth at least that amount. The CGC 9.6 sold for $180k or so, and the CGC 9.4 sold for $160k or so. The CGC 9.2, which is the next in line and none are close to it, is worth at least low six figures. I would bank on it. Congrats Mark. Based on the selling price its a $100k book. Congrats Mark
  10. Come on the Royals tonight!!! Promotion Push! Usually it's the team who comes 6th in the Championship who end up winning the play offs. I hope Forest go up. Will to some extent also depend on whether QPR or Cardiff are in the play-offs.
  11. Because some people enjoy comics more than they do plastic. My daughter is 8 years old. She thinks comics are for reading. Why would you keep a midgrade comic or low grade restored key comic in a CGC case?

  13. I cracked 3 slabs recently - mid grade ASM #8 + ASM Ann #3 and a 1.8 MP FF#1 for my daughter's reading sets. It does feel great to flick through the pages. I think I have spent more on raw books in the last month than CGC books.
  14. Speaking of getting #108 framed, I got the idea from Fantastic Thor to get some art framed next to the comic. I wouldn't want to cut up even reader copies, though... Affording a page of original art is out of the question, but I bought the Splash page and page 2 production art transparencies--which I assume were used in the Journey Into Mystery Omnibus and Marvel Masterworks, since the original art was long gone: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&rt=nc&nma=true&item=270713341955&si=Rq19q%252F6W%252FPMYXX1Evsz6n7LBuQU%253D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT#ht_8774wt_1141 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&rt=nc&nma=true&item=280640603156&si=Rq19q%252F6W%252FPMYXX1Evsz6n7LBuQU%253D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT#ht_8784wt_1141 I envision placing the two transparencies next to the pages from 2 reader copies, and then placing my graded copy of 108 by itself in a 3rd column, archival mat boards and framed with UV glass. If I had not gone on a recent buying spree, I'd have this project done already, but I've shelved it for awhile. No rush, once done, I expect to have it for years to come. You would be surprised how little later art costs. I picked this up for $840 in 2008:
  15. I'm reading "Too Big to Fail" by Andrew Sorkin. Be interesting to see whether its consistent with how I remember it.
  16. I love every book in this picture and several of them are very tough. Nice books, all, ciorac! SS #20
