I know I have been posting a lot of books lately and I hope it doesn't seem like I'm trying to hi-jack this thread, but it took me four years to post and I'm making up for lost time! I just got some cool stuff back from CGC and I'm just going to start lobbing them out there. Hope you enjoy....

Thank you. This whole board deal is just a heck of alot of fun. That Famous Crimes you put on the Fox thread is awesome. And checking out Bangzoom's collection is about the best darn thing ever.

What are you guys doing up so late? There must be funny books to look at.......oh, well I guess there are. I'm with Mr. Schomburg on the Timely thing. BRING 'EM ON! Please. Pretty please.

It's been a long time coming for this one. Currently this is the highest census, but that won't last as it will soon be tasting sweet mylar.
Now, that is cool! Never had one. Add that to the list!

Science # 3
This is still one of my favorite Fox covers.
Allright, not only yours but some other boardies as well. You guys have to excuse me and enlighten me because I fail to see the attraction. It's an OK cover to me but what makes you tick about it? What about it, Rich? Ryan? Jon?
Could it be the color scheme with that awesome rainbow effect in the background? Maybe those weirdly dynamic purple plant men? Or is it the composition with everything centered on Dynamo's hand and all the colors radiating outward? Is it the art deco look and design of the building and lamppost in the background or the woman in the foreground?
Naw, it's just a freakin cool cover!

It's a shame the guy who amassed the Allentown Collection didn't take better care of them!

Picked this up in LA last weekend. Thanks, Ken.

Why didn't Simon and Kirby do more covers for Timely?
-
Not the rarest Timely, but it has the first Destroyer - in my opnion the best Timely character not to get his own book.
-
Got this in trade from West a while back. At the time it was a grail book. If it ever comes up for sale you will know I have stopped collecting!
-
While Marvel 9 is THE great battle issue, this one is absolutely number two (and I don't mean do-do). And the cover may be better. It has a little water stain at the top staple...thus a 7.

I've had three nice copies of this book over the years. Sold the San Francisco for alot of dough. Sold the Chicago to my good buddy Steve. And lucked into this one for relatively little.

Well, since Bangzoom has been showing his collection I doubt anyone is even looking at this thread. But he hasn't shown us any Timelys. So, for those of you going through withdrawal......
Got this at San Diego about 8 years ago from a guy walking around with a little stack of silver age. In the middle was this beauty.

We'll make a DC geek out of you yet!
Oh, take my word for it Bill....Richard is well on his way
STEVE
Yeah, maybe the geek part.

A later Fox book. If it weren't for the condition I might not have paid any attention to it. Then I realized it had the origin of One Round Hogan. Woo Hoo!

Thanks all for the little clapping gremlins. BTW I must confess I made a little mistake. I saw flames on the cover of this book and thought it was a Timely so I bought it. Imagine my surprise when there was no Human Torch in it!

My LA Wizard pick-up from A-1 Comics. Gotta love the White Pages. I had to put sun glasses on to protect my x-ray vision while reading this baby through all the layers of the CGC holder. Wow!
Outstanding book Richard. You never mentioned your x-ray vision before..now all the slabbing makes more sense.
On this, you are not wrong! Thanks Russell

Tax refund... I wish.
This arrived this morning, form Comiclink! A grail off the list. The cover is a bit soiled, as is the interior, and there is some glue on the spine (at the staples) but its still totally readable, supple and complete!! I am totally excited about this one... its nice to see the battle in its original form (I have worn out my Fantasy Masterpieces reprint!).
I'm very happy with CLINK's grading ... seems bang on. Maybe the pages are a bit darker than described, but still nice and flexible. And their service was very good. Time payments, baby!!
Marvel #9:
Ryan, congrats on an AWESOME addition to your comic family. As a friend once said,"If you don't like this, well, you just don't like funny-books!"

Hey Jon would you consider this to be one of the rarest and hardest to find Timely's?
I do not pretend to be an expert on this. Get Carey and Evans on that.....I have not bought Timelys in a while...but when I was Daring Mystery 2 "was said" to be the toughest....but mid numbers in Caps and MM may be tough also.
Frankly, I love the Daring Mystery 2 and Mystic 2 covers.....Just wonderful covers
Red Raven 1 is definitely the hardest Timely key to find. I always thought Daring 2 was the toughest Timely. It was the last issue of that run for me. Mystic 4 was the hardest to find of that run and the CGC census seems to bear that out. USA 11 is a bear to find also. This is also skewed by perspective. I tend to collect in grade and so some books that seem scarce to me (Marvel 3) aren't really that tough to find.

I leave town for one week and look what happens! Pages and pages of incredible stuff to look at. Maybe I should leave town more often. Thanks for sharing all of this B!

This arrived today. The corner crease in the top right goes through the book and looks to be a recent addition. Otherwise this books is smokin! White pages, full gloss and reflectivity, and that fresh smell

Billy's copy looks much nicer than the Cage copy on Comiclink, based on the colors on the cover and page quality. Apparently Cage also had an October copy that graded VG/F 5.0. Its pictured in the 2005 Metro catalog at p. 81.
i am appreciating all the love for the book big time. thanks, all.
We are just sucking up so maybe if you ever let it go one of us (me?) will have a shot at it! In comic collecting there is no love, it's all about the books!
Show me your Timely's and I'll show you mine. Have a Cigar...
