It finally sold for $240K

I consider investing in comics & collectibles to be a part of a more diversified investing plan. I equate it to rich people investing in Art. I'm talking multi millionaires and billionaires. Surely they didn't get where they are by buying art. But it can be a good way to redirect some money that won't sit in a bank account or rely on a potentially volatile market. Having all your eggs in one basket is dangerous. Being able to "invest" in something like a TMNT 9.8 sounds like a tempting proposition to me. I just don't see it losing value. I just wouldn't dump all my money into it.

I'm gonna buy some. Seems like fun. EDIT: Sold out before I could buy any. I was in the queue for 1.5 hours. There were over 12,000 people ahead of me.

Who's to say? A year ago people were saying the $90k sale was BS and called it an outlier. Now 9.8s are being priced at $250k. There's only 33 total 9.8s. I wouldn't say it's probable. But I wouldn't call it impossible.

Yeah if I had a 9.8 I’d sell it and buy a low grade just to still have one.

Holy hell. Someone offered $220K and it didn't get accepted? That's wild!! Imagine where prices are going to end up after the all the people that want to cash out have sold. It seems like the surge is causing long time holders to sell for huge profits. So what happens next? Is there an aftermath period where the new buyers hold and the leftover longtime holders still don't sell? Or is it a continual surge. There has to be a leveling off at some point, right? I am absolutely fascinated by the TMNT comic market. What do you guys think?

Man, if Laird ever does a witnessed signing it would be huge! It would take forever to get all the books signed.

I feel like the floor for a first print at any grade is close to $10,000 at this point. That's just based on my eBay and Facebook group observations, so I could be off.

I absolutely love that book. I was able to get mine signed by Eastman at a convention. All the inserts and attachments are such a cool bonus. If I was the seller of that $2k auction I don't think I'd go through with the sale. Assuming it wasn't troll bids, that thing is gonna get returned.

Just goes to show how many knuckleheads on eBay don't read descriptions. There's been a lot of bids since that update.

Yeah, if they know anything about TMNT comics they're gonna be pissed when they get it in hand. I've seen that version posted more than a few times now as a second print. I feel like it's going to keep happening. CGC calls it the "Insight editions" (2018) if anybody wants to look it up in the census.

The few comic shops I go to around here still don't bag and board new books. I don't think I've ever seen a store that does.
