  1. Actually I learned a lot from this thread. Besides learning what hi res scans can reveal, I think I've realized that I'd rather buy a dozen slightly flawed but beautiful 8.0 books over 1 9.8 book at this time in my collecting. Since the original OP hasn't posted a picture his declaration has no merit as of yet, and the book I posted was pretty much proven by other posters to be graded correctly so this thread was very educational to me at least. Now I hopefully have a better eye while looking through my collection and can start sending in those potential high grade books to sell to those that like that sort of thing, so I can buy even more awesome 8.0's.
  2. Yea I was trying to give us something to get all riled up about while we waited for him but turns out they probably graded this correctly also. Dag nab it!
  3. Good eye! Actually looks like a printing defect on close examamination, looks at the grid of dots but only the darker dots are discolored and the lighter parts look normal. There is no indentation to indicate any scrape.
  4. Anyway, thanks for the grading enlightenment from all. Pretty new back into collecting again after 25 years away and trying to tune up my skills. Amazing what detailed scans reveal.
  5. You might be right the scan does seem to reveal more. Although I must say It seems I need to clean my scanner badly. Here's a couple regular pics.
  6. Yea I'm thinking with a press this goes into the 9's hopefully.
  7. yea that's what I was thinking. With a press maybe higher, but looking closer now lazy boy is correct and there is one very small color break about 3rd of the way down the spine yes I think your correct. they are very small ticks about a 3rd of the way down. The v shape one is some other anomaly cant see it at all looking at it and yes there is a slight miswrap as a whole on the book. Tiny ding on Lr back cover but the overhang is real.
  8. yes that's the only flaw i see on the front. looks press able as I don't see any color loss there.
  9. yes your correct there is a light crease in the ulc. non color braking for sure though The stain is actually just on my scanner i think. cant see it looking at the book.
  10. Back looks even better than the front to me.
  11. So since its Friday and we have no pics of the book in question I 'm officially hijacking this thread to discuss this book that I bought that was cracked out, but the cracked case was sent with it, and had the grade 8.0 ghost rider 16 on it. It was sold to me dirt cheap at grade 8.0 so i'm not complaining at all, but the guy who sold it must have been furious at this grade and probably why it was cracked out. I've starred at this thing many times and cannot find why it was graded that way. The only flaws I see are a few NON color breaking creases along the spine and the wrap isn't perfect. Dosn't seem like this is enough to bring it down to 8.0 but maybe I'm wrong. Any thoughts?
  12. If you see a .5 in there with, slightly moldy to brittle pages, you'll know it was me.
  13. Yea I'm sure in the back issue boxes there was a mix of everything from whatever came through the door. What I'm noticing is that where I have runs of 30 or 40 books of a title that I'm fairly certain I was just buying every couple weeks off the rack of the LCS, there is every once in a while a random newsstand edition. My guess is that they would probably order enough for their average volume of customers but if for whatever reason they had more random buys that month of a title they would grab some from other "newstand" locations just to make their customers happy.
  14. Don't worry, it's been in that Mylar sleeve since I found it at a yard sale 35 or so years ago and there it'll stay.
  15. Dr Strange 180 - 8.0 OW $31Strange Tales 146 - 4.5 OW $10Strange Tales 123 - 4.5 CROW $14
  16. I'm pretty sure my comic shop did this a lot even for random issues they must have under ordered. I have many newsstands that I know for sure I wasn't buying outside a comic book store in the 90's.
  17. Looks aligned on Pg 40 so 2nd print for sure. Thanks!
