I mean, for OPs sake I hope you’re right. But you think the softer market doesn’t affect the price at all? Nor the fact that a sig series 9.6 is on HA right now and Quinten’s 9.4 is on comicconnect and all three hammer roughly at the same time? I mean, I already have my 9.0 and not looking to upgrade, but if I’m parking 70k anywhere, I’m keeping my powder dry for quintens book due to the history.

I didn't know about the 9.6 on Heritage. That could definitely have an effect, especially since it's signed and has white page.

I think all collectables will take a beating now I’m glad I sold when I did ( not Tmnt but in general ). The world is a very unstable place and the economy in North America a steaming pile of dung. Money won’t stay parked in collectables if other tangible assets are plummeting . Hope you can get some good money but those crazy highs are long gone .

Yes, the timing is lousy. The stock market was doing well went I sent it in to Clink about three months ago. Then the crash happened just before the auction started. I'm still hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

  3. My 9.6 TMNT #1 is about to go up for auction on Clink:

Before the stock market and crypto crash, I predicted that it would go for about $80,000. Now I don't know, but I'm betting it will go for less than that. I'd be curious to know what you guys think.

Still i blame myself, i said books, did not say comic books.

Yes, but books can also be valuable and need $1800 in insurance. I think the postal worker just didn't take you seriously. Don't blame yourself. Blame the Post Office. They're much more at fault.

They will be fine....if you packed them really well with the "reasonable expectation that the post office will be rough as hell with it".  Whatever service is used the amount of throwing, slamming and shaking up and down in a truck is high with all shippers. At least with Priority and up you go on a plane trip instead of ground the whole way, but still.

I think his concern is that they will open the box to make sure it actually contains printed matter and nothing else. Then they won't repack it properly.

So i dont ship much to cgc , my son does or i usually have my son drop off. But we  decided to send 6 books to CGC, mostly hidls. .  Insurance fir $1,800. So i go to post office. Im wearing  mask cause u have to in us post office. Glasses are fogged and i cant even see. Im blind without glasses. Told her i can't see lol.  Told the women ship cheapest method and $1,800 and need tracking.  She says whats in it .i say books. She says $35.  Take glasses off and use my card an card swiper not being able to read it. But all good. Got my 4 digut code in correct.  I go home and leave receipt on ny sons desk  . A few hours later he comes to me and says "whats media mail". I was like you got to be kidding me.

She shipped it Media Mail. Guess if I could have read the screen I might have seen it. Ugg.  I check the tracking and it already left on its way to a sorting facility so too late to go there and change anything and there closed. I know I'm not supposed to ship comic books media mail .100% my bad

So anyone accidentally or on purpose ship books to CGC using media mail.

So worried now it's going to get opened and they're going to mess up the books etc.  Also worried they add postage and CGC rejects it

Do I call the Post office and tell them on tuesday , odds are going to be half way there by then I mean what do I do.?

    Feel so stupid.

Wow! You asked for $1800 of insurance, and she sent it media mail. If there is a problem with the comics being damaged or not arriving at CGC, you might have a case if you sued the post office.

Thanks everyone. I am going to hold onto it. As I try to move money out of my collectables and into other assets it has becoming increasingly difficult to determine which to part with and which to hold onto.

This is really good perspective that I hadn't thought of. Thanks.

Since you said that if you sold it, you would put the money into stocks, another thing to consider is that the performance of the S&P 500 since 2002 (the year AF #15 sold for $19,200) has pretty much kept up with AF #15. AF #15 has more than quadrupled, and so has the S&P 500.

I was wondering what the story was about, and now I know! Unfortunately, my OCD won't let me read the books that I buy. I'm almost too paranoid to touch them, much less read them. I'm afraid that I might cause some kind of damage to my minty beauties. I'm not sure if the stories are meant to be logical? I think I prefer them when they're a little on the illogical side.

Yes, being illogical certainly makes them more memorable. xD

I have that issue of Unexpected. Isn't that the one where a giant rabbit goes after a little boy just because he eats chocolate bunnies and bites the head off first. The rabbit catches him and bites his head off. As a child, I never understood the logic. I mean, as a human, if I found out that a bunny rabbit liked to eat gingerbread men, I wouldn't feel the need to take revenge.

The first two comics I ever owned. Couldn't have been more than 8 or 9 yrs old at the time, and not sure why my parents even let me have them. But boy, did they make an impression. I loved the art, the surreality and the "danger" of it all. And the first story in The Unexpected issue, while deeply weird and creepy, actually has an upbeat ending, which strange as it might seem, left me feeling good about it.

The Witching Hour cover is amazing! If I had seen that on a spinner rack as a child, I would definitely have picked it up to find out the story behind the haunted house in space. (And then I'm sure I would have been disappointed when the story failed to live up, or even match, the cover.)

The 9.4 underperformed at just over $35k

We'll see about the others in a couple days.

    The 9.6 just went for $58,000. 😟

I believe it is an airtight case. That was one of the reasons I wanted to get input here. I know people say that sometimes keeping the books in a safe causes staple rust.

Yes, and also CGC slabs are built to not be airtight, so I'd take that as an indication of best practices. Besides staple rust and trapped humidity problems, an airtight container will seal in the acidic emissions that come from the cheap comic book paper over time. So the air around the comics will become acidic.
