  1. It is definitely true that I have thousands of worthless comics.
  2. Speak for yourself. I've never sold a single comic from my collection.
  3. That's actually not as bad as what Marvel did when you subscribed (by mail) to one of their titles. They just took a piece of brown paper and wrapped it around the comic with the top and bottom open and exposed. Several comics in my collection arrived that way, including "Days of Future Past." For a brief period, we had a mailman who loved to fold the comics before placing them inside the mailbox. I remember being very upset about that.
  4. Yes, he does. He has his, and I have mine. He hasn't had his graded yet, but I've often wondered if it might be a 9.8. (Mine was 9.6 after pressing.)
  5. My brother did that. He learned about it from an ad in the Comics Buyer's Guide and ordered it. I don't recall how it was shipped, but it arrived undamaged. (I don't think bubble mailers existed back then.)
  6. I saw it as innovative, and I was very familiar with Frank Miller's Daredevil and Ronin, so I got most of the references. I did think it had a chance of becoming valuable, but I thought that about many comics that never did. For example, I was sure that Crystar the Crystal Warrior would be huge.
  7. I read it when I first purchased it, but it was only worth $1.50 then.
  8. I don't know. I was just going by the values given at Gocollect.com. But now I see that no graded copies actually exist at 0.5, so I guess they're not so easy to come by after all.
  9. You can get a 0.5 for a few hundred dollars. I know that's extremely low-grade, but at least you'd have one. And it would increase in value over time.
  10. I think they probably gave that a pass, because a WWII era rat putting its mark on an early comic gives it a greater feeling of authenticity and actually enhances the bondage-themed cover.
  11. Well, like I said, it's not a perfect system, but you really can't tell what all the defects are once once a comic has been slabbed. My guess is that the Wonder Woman comic has an interior defect, liked a torn page or crayon marks, that lowered the grade.
  12. Maybe, but I watched the entire auction, and most of the items did very well, usually doubling, and sometimes tripling, the pre-auction price. The level of enthusiasm for TMNT seemed very low. Not only was the final bid not a big increase over the pre-live price, but the bidding was very slow. Like lou_fine said, it was like pulling teeth trying to get people to bid.
  13. It's not quite that bad. I recall reading somewhere that CGC uses three independent graders. One of them is the head grader who has the final word, but after he/she determines the grade, they look to see what the other graders gave the comic. That way, they're less likely to miss a defect or to be too affected by whatever mood they're in on that day. Sure, it's not an exact science, but they do strive for consistency.
  14. The 9.6 TMNT #1 with white pages on HA just finished for $66,000. A few days ago, a 9.6 with ow to white pages sold for $78,000. Does this mean that TMNT #1 has peaked and is starting to crash? If so, what is the cause? I find this very surprising given the scarcity of the comic and the cultural relevance of TMNT. https://comics.ha.com/itm/modern-age-1980-present-/alternative-underground/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-1-mirage-studios-1984-cgc-nm-96-white-pages/a/7246-91047.s?type=DA-DMC-GoCollect-Comics-7246-09082021&gcv=b556f5c6-0185-46a9-9aeb-b460d36ffa40 https://www.comicconnect.com/item/924372?tzf=1
  15. Just sold for $66,000. How disappointing. https://comics.ha.com/itm/modern-age-1980-present-/alternative-underground/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-1-mirage-studios-1984-cgc-nm-96-white-pages/a/7246-91047.s?type=DA-DMC-GoCollect-Comics-7246-09082021&gcv=b556f5c6-0185-46a9-9aeb-b460d36ffa40
  16. I'll go with $95,000. I think some of the bidders on the last auction didn't want to bid too much when there was a superior (white pages) 9.6 they could fall back on. But now this may be their last chance for a while.
  17. Close. It was $78,000, but I'm guessing it would have been a bit more if there hadn't been a simultaneous 9.6 auction on HA. (This auction was very interesting for me as I have a 9.6 CGC graded TMNT #1 with ow to white pages, identical to the one in the auction, so now I have a much better idea of its value.)
  18. It's running at the same time as another 9.6 auction on HA and has OW pages. My guess is it won't break $100,000. (That's a pretty safe bet.😂)
  19. It seemed to me that the writers were setting him up for an alcoholism/redemption arc, at least in the first movie, and then they went a different route. The arrogance was that of an addict, and then it just became a personality flaw.
  20. And that's where it ended. I had expected at least a little last-minute sniping, but there was none.
  21. I'm trying to. It's just that whenever I think the conversation is finally over, you guys keep quoting me.
  22. I'm also not an expert, but I believe that pressing is combined with cleaning. I have no idea if that would include taking out stains, though.
  23. The Ultimate universe seems to have some staying power.
