  1. I have absolutely sworn at my computer in snipe situations when I thought I had an auction won.
  2. Yeah, I've had to talk myself off of some buying ledges - FOMO is real, and it can make you want to pull the trigger on a buy even when your gut is telling you no. There have been times where I'll think, "am I really going to let an extra $20 or whatever keep me from buying this book?" but the reality is that adds up and turns a deal into a dumb buy that doesn't fit your collection and you just start chasing. So I try to take the feeling out of it as much as possible.
  3. As a night owl (family is in bed by 10, I'm usually up until at least midnight, if not 1 a.m.), I scan eBay a lot while I watch movies or shows. There are deals to be found, but it takes a ton of digging/searching. Maybe not worth the amount of digging to most, but to me it's fun, just like digging in physical long boxes at shows and shops. I agree that most people who "know" comics on there are now driving prices way up because they know people will blindly pay it, and some of the people who don't know comics are even worse, because they think "old comic" equals $100 starting price regardless. But every now and then you find a diamond in the rough, and that's enough to keep me digging for now...
  4. It was $6,650 - you can view it on eBay by going to the original listing and viewing the source code.
  5. Ant-man, cuz the duck's got no pants, man! I don't know, that was terrible. Ant-man wins.
  6. J-J-J-John Blaze Ja-Ja-ah-John Bla-Blaze J-Ja-J-Ja, John Blaze Johnny Blaze ain't a damn thing changed Ghost Rider wins
  7. Jerry Lewis played a version of Sad Sack in the 1957 movie The Sad Sack, based on Sgt. George Baker's original Sad Sack comic strips. Here, we see Batman and the Boy Wonder meeting Jerry Lewis during a climb up a steep wall: Batman seems wholly dismissive of Lewis, probably because he knows he can beat the Sad Sack hands down. Batman wins.
  8. Hmm, you're right, I missed that - I'll pull the book back out and take a closer look, thanks!
  9. Scored this in a random lot buy (I know it's not unknown or anything, but still cool to find it).
  10. Love the Amano Harley Quinn cover - I'm a big fan of his Final Fantasy work. Edit to add - if I try to post Amano's first name, the board edits it out...
  11. Scored in a random book lot - paid an average of 41 cents per book:
  12. Nice little mail day today. Another lucky score on a weird random Batman lot - I was the only bidder again; paid $8.95 for the 22-book lot! That's roughly 41 cents per book. Nothing too crazy this time, but Batman 435, 631, 632 and 'Tec 761 are all newsstands (435 is pretty beat up though), and Batman 511 is a DC Universe UPC. And there are a couple of wicked cool covers in there too. Also got a shipment of moderns in, including The Joker 2 covers A, B and C and the Amano cover of Harley Quinn 1 - as a huge Final Fantasy nerd, I've always loved his quirky art. I also hit up a Walmart for the heck of it too. Edit to add - if I try to post Amano's first name, the board edits it out...
  13. Forget this game, I'm wondering if @ADAMANTIUM can come to the track with me and help me pick horses??
  14. Anyone else preorder Origins Castle Grayskull from Wal-Mart and have their preorder delayed until May? I just got the email the other day...
  15. I know you said Vampirella doesn't count, but I'm taking this as an excuse to post one of my favorite covers from one of my favorite artists, Puppeteer Lee:
  16. That's really cool - and while you're right that 181 is out of your range, you could definitely get something like a Hulk 340 and have some left over to get some lower grade books that your dad might have owned. Keep in mind that you may be just as happy with a mid grade CGC book like a Hulk 340 as you would with a 9.8 as well, and you could find good value for your money. I personally don't chase 9.8 in graded comics, and I'm as happy with a 9.0-9.4 in something I really want to own as I would be with a 9.8 - maybe you would be too. Good luck!
  17. In college, I lived with a girl who had a rabbit named Jimmy. I hated that damned rabbit. She'd let it hop around the apartment and it would poop everywhere. But mostly I hated it because it chewed through not one, but TWO! of my N64 cables. So clearly, the rabbit beats Cable(s)...
  18. Who are your favorite characters (I see you mentioned Wolverine)? Do you have any nostalgic memories of comics you read as a kid? Is there a character or title that you share a fond memory of with a loved one (your dad/friend/whomever loved Batman and turned you on to comics for example)? If you don't care about resale value but want a cool collectible, I'd target something that has meaning to you in some form. I can understand wanting a high-value comic as a showpiece, as opposed to an "investment," but it'll mean a lot more to you if there's an emotional tie. It sounds weird, but hear me out - it's almost like getting a tattoo; if you want to spend a grand or two - which is serious money to many people - and you don't plan on cashing out on it anytime soon, you want it to be something memorable and meaningful. There should be a story behind it about the "why" that made you drop a couple grand on a comic - an emotional tie will make it that much more special.
