Nice!  You mind telling us what you paid for this one?  Asking as I have one and it should grade out the same, maybe a 9.0 with a pressing (if I go that route).

Sure! When I first started looking, GoCollect had the 8.5 listed at a FMV of $325, but by the time I was actively ready to buy, they had upgraded that to an FMV of $350. I saw this one listed on Sept. 15 for one of those auctions where it's either bid or make an offer (no BIN price), with a starting price of $345. I made an offer at starting price, and the next morning the seller countered with $380, and I bought it. At the time, I figured it was a good deal at only about 8% above FMV, because other copies were selling for huge premium percentages over FMV. GoGollect has since upgraded the FMV on an 8.5 to $400, and copies are regularly selling above that still, in the $440-$495 range for an 8.5. I liked that this one was a newsstand too.

For what it's worth, I posted this in the "ASM 300 Heating Up" thread the other day:

Speaking of paying percentages over FMV, since I've been hunting pretty closely on the 'Bay and a few other places this week in order to try and get a copy that fit my budget at as high a possible grade and quality I could afford - without trying to overpay like crazy - I've noticed that some of the recent sales on this are nuts compared to what the current FMVs are listed at.

For example, on Sept. 16 alone:

    • 3.0 OW/W newsstand sold for $169.95 - about 41% over GoCollect's currently stated FMV of $120 (that's with no comp sales in their sales history though)
    • 9.6 OW/W newsstand sold for a best offer price of $1,275 - 70% over GC's currently stated $750
    • 5.5 OW/W newsstand sold for a best offer price of $345 - about 57% over GC's currently stated $220
    • Even an 8.5 PLOD C-1 W newsstand sold for $370, which is still 5.5% above GC's FMV of $350 in a universal grade (this was on Sept. 15)

It may be just coincidence that these are all newsstands in the last day - direct editions this week have also sold pretty high above GC's stated FMVs too. 2 different 9.6 directs sold for $1,200 and $1,090 (current stated FMV of $750); a 7.5 direct sold for $350 (current stated FMV of $290); and two different 9.4 directs sold for $675 and $725 (current stated FMV of $425).

The FMVs have been updated a bit since I posted that, but basically all copies are still selling at huge % premiums over the now-current GoCollect FMV. Interesting to note that their FMV on a 9.6 went from $750 to now $975 in one week, and 9.6 copies continue to sell at right around $1,200.

    Both got snatch up!

Oh yeah, those were sold listings - I always only look at sold listings for comps. Active listings can be useful to kind of gauge where interest might be in a book - if a lot of active listings are around the same asking price or bid level, you can get some decent ideas, but the sales paint a much better picture.

    Yes he's asking under 3000$

So it's too good to be true

How far under? Not a lot of raw comps on eBay, but here's one that sold at a best offer price of $2,350: https://www.ebay.com/itm/HULK-181-1ST-FULL-APPEARANCE-OF-WOLVERINE-MVS-INTACT-HI-GRADE-9-0-R-STUNNING/133515235627?hash=item1f1620d12b:g:s-MAAOSw-mNfWQyH

And another with a winning bid of $2,125: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Incredible-Hulk-181-Vol-1-Near-Perfect-High-Grade-1st-Wolverine-w-Marvel-Stamp/401608994695?hash=item5d81c2ef87:g:PjwAAOSwAI9bsTOg

They look like decent ones too - like I said, hard to tell 100% with the pics you have. I'm not suggesting you jump at it or anything, there are far more qualified people on here than I who can tell you a lot more about this book (I don't own one) - but just trying to help with some basic comps/research.

  4. Wow, that's a great list! Mine are recent since I just got back into collecting in the last couple of months - found:

Superman 75 newsstand (not high-value but I like that it's newsstand copy, high grade too)

Shadow of the Bat 1 in a sealed polybag with some other cool stuff like a pop-up Arkham Asylum, some posters, etc. Thought it was neat for a buck.

Two copies of ASM 361 and one copy of 362 - all 2nd prints - found all three in a $2 box at an antique fair. They're all about an 8.0-8.5
