  1. I have a front and back scan, but there are some small spine issues (don't appear to break color) on the front that didn't seem to come through on the scans, so I tried to get pics of those. Thanks! The white color on these next two is glare from the light, not color loss. I was trying to get the angle of the light right to show the spine marks.
  2. Thanks for the heads up! Just popped it out of the mylar, and the staples are clean and shiny. It's unfortunately not a 9.8 candidate (and I don't think it could be even with a press) - there are a couple of spine issues that are really hard to see on the yellow cardstock cover. I just scanned the front and back and I'll post in the "spare a grade." Still was a great find at $25 I think though - it's been on my "keep an eye out for this" list, as are the other Nintendo Valiant books. Edited to add: scans and pics are here if you're interested:
  3. Yeah, this one has that unfortunate missing piece of the cover and some other issues, but it was $9, so I had to grab it - first time I've ever found one in the wild!
  4. Found this "no price variant" for $25 at a show today - it's in gorgeous condition; a lot of times when I see these Nintendo comics they're often a bit beat up.
  5. An unfortunate chunk out of the top of the cover (among a few other condition issues), but for $9, there was no way I was leaving it behind - first time I've ever seen this book in a box in the wild.
  6. Went to a small show in Madison today. It was a lot of fun and absolutely packed, and the sellers were wheelin' and dealin' - a lot of 25-50% off deals, a lot of bargain bins. I spent $120 flat, here's the haul:
  7. He really does seem like a nice fella, and man, I wish I had his outlook on life ("the sun came up this mornin', I'm here, I'm kinda bummed out") - I'd be a complete wreck. I really hope he's able to get it back. Seems like the kind of guy you'd want to crack a beer and talk comics with. I'm not faulting or blaming him at all, but I don't think there's any way I bring that book to a show - maybe a photocopy with an "inquire about this book if interested" or something like that. Sad that people are as brazen and heartless as these thieves, and even sadder that many get away with it.
  8. Oh wow, I didn't realize that - now I want to pick it up. Maybe I'll wait for a TPB based on my current reading backlog...
  9. Nice!! Half Price Books (I saw the sticker on book 12)? Or an eBay lot buy?
  10. I haven't gotten a chance to read it yet, but the premise sounded fun and I liked the Mario homage cover so I took a flyer on it.
  11. Red cover is the main cover. The blue is the "hero" gatefold cover, and then there's also a "villain" gatefold cover, as well as a 2nd print that features the Riddler playing chess with the characters.
  12. No, but that whole Countdown run was better served as toilet paper than reading material.
  13. ASM 258 is like this too - no box on the direct edition, normal barcode on the newsstand.
  14. Looks like it's for 1-3 day auctions: "Sellers who choose 1- or 3-day auction-style listing durations will be charged a $1 special duration feature fee per listing. Charging this fee will help discourage the use of shorter durations where they are least successful."
  15. Been having a lot of fun focusing more on the newsstand hunt lately - here's a few more I got this weekend:
  16. The only issue I have with this is that putting it in the cart doesn't secure the item - so if you checkout to make sure you're the buyer, eBay will force payment. It would be nice if there were an in-between step on BIN listings like there are on auctions. For example, I've won multiple auctions from the same buyer, so I know I'm the winner and the item is mine, but I don't have to make payment until I get the revised invoice.
  17. Got the last piece I needed today (#610), so I now finally have a full Hush (Batman 608-619) newsstand run! I was trying to do as much of it as possible on the cheap through buying runs and lots or finding them in the wild. I think I probably have nearly four full Hush runs at this point from buying books in lots and small collections that way. If I averaged it out across all I've spent to get these and the other Hush issues (mostly non-newsstand, but a few newsstand doubles), I'm sitting at an average cost per book around $9. Not too shabby!
  18. It's less about "naming and shaming" and more about saying who the shop is in case others have had similar interactions with them and can identify those interactions. I understand not wanting to call someone out, but it's hard for others to share their experiences if they don't know who you're talking about.
