  1. A painting is one of a kind and even a limited print can be hung on your wall for decoration. Sports cards really are obsolete and show you how boring being a kid use to be. A cardboard piece of paper with stats and a picture of a player? At least a comic can be read and the cover has some artistic qualities. Whoever held up a Ken Griffey rookie card and marveled at how young he looked. I know the older stuff is fairly rare so their is value in that but I can see sports cards having a much tougher time staying relevant then comic books. And that is saying something since I see comics becoming basically irrelevant (compared to the heights we have seen) in the next 25 -30 years.
  2. Agree with you on this one. The 90s didn't really have a variant problem since there was really no variants per say other then maybe the X-Men 1 having 5 different covers. The 90s crash occurred because people were buying long boxes of a single copy and putting it in their closet since Wizard said it was going to be a hit. Companies were making a ton of cash so they thought "why not put out two books a month and double our profits". Millions of books being gobbled up and stored for investment purposes. Over production created the 90s crash which I don't think we have going on right now. The possible "variant crash" would be a whole new issue. This crash would impact a whole lot less people since the number of investors has to be way less then in the 90s but the amount invested per person I'd think is higher then in the 90s.
  3. Not sure why I bid on this book but I thought it presented well and I like the character. Got blown away pretty much all night long on the keys - always tonight to get a couple more to spread out the shipping.
  4. Terrible comparison. Nike makes most of their money selling shoes to people who wear them. If Nike became a company that only sold a few collectible shoes and the rest of the brand sat around the store collecting dust do you think Nike would stay in business very long?
  5. 4.0 - back cover will definitely cause a big hit. Stains - big creases.
  6. Send it in - never seen anything like that before. They may consider it production related.
  7. Thanks for the input guys. The four hour info I was receiving didn't seem unreasonable but 8 hours didn't seem to make sense from a paper product standpoint. If you work and want to press books while you are at work (7:30 - 5:30PM) then you would have to get up at 4:00 AM to put the books in hydration so it's ready at 7:30 AM. Evenings are no problem since you could put books in hydration at 5:30 and throw them in the press before bed at 9:30 PM. Was considering putting in hydration at 10:30 PM and pressing at 7:00 AM but that is 8.5 hours of high humidity - way too long. I'll figure it out but just wanted some info to back up not wanting books "soaking" for so long.
  8. Almost bid on one of those stupid PGX books - their new format looks very close to the CGC case.
  9. Got two books last night and was under-bidder on 6 others. Prices seem very strong considering all the money spent at the other auction:
  10. Never been to a West Coast shows but Baltimore is one of the biggest and best on the East Coast. There is almost no celebrities (if any) so it doesn't attract as many cosplayers as a show like C2E2 or Wizard Chicago but there is just rows and rows of dealers. I didn't go to any panels but there are a ton. Check out the artist list - tons and tons of the biggest names in the industry. I actually liked Heroes better from a buying standpoint but Baltimore has it all from the big national dealers to a bunch of smaller guys trying to make a buck. Let us know what you think if you make the trip.
  11. Bought two graded Preacher 1s from Mike and they arrived safe and sound - very well packaged. I'd buy from him again in a second.
  12. With all the huge books did the "lesser" books like FF 48 do well vs GPA. My checkbook didn't even want to check out these auctions but I was thinking the lesser keys may fall thru the cracks with all the huge money being thrown around.
  13. I'd definitely expect some of the high end bidders to be busy over there or just broke so we will see.
  14. I was wrong someone did get crushed by the comic avalanche:
  15. Difficult to understand your frowny face. Do you think I shouldn't have grabbed a quick pic or you wish I would have gotten squished?
  16. I knew I needed picture evidence of what happened since no one would have believed me. I've never even heard of something like that happening to someone.
  17. Three weeks or so has gone by and another ComicLink auction is upon us. I always say I'm not going to check it out but end up watching stuff end - it's an addiction.
  18. Yea - his whole system was a receipt for disaster. There are shelves which are designed for half a ton of weight and those where not them. And the end shelves were not as structurally sound as the ones in the pictures. Most of the books he had left were $1 books but he did have a rack full of $10-$20 books so hopefully those boxes are just pinned and not crushed. I rechecked out the shelves I have at my house when I got home but I bought the high weight types and I only don't put boxes up top so I'm way under weighted.
