  1. There was a small one day con last Sunday in a Holiday Inn which pulled in 30-40 local dealers with low booth prices (think it was $80 a 6' table) and the dealers all did great. One Facebook friend said he sold more wall books and higher priced books in 6 hours then at several large three day cons. It was $5 to get in the door so people had tons of cash left over to actually buy books - novel idea.
  2. Thanks for the Con report from the dealers stand point. I'd think Philly would draw from a much more upscale clientele then way up in Novi Michigan but that show turned out to be great. Ticket prices were pretty high and booth fees were in line with a Wizard show (from what I heard) so why do you see Motor City being dealer successful where as a show like Philly is losing comic dealers in droves?
  3. Steranko usually does this but he was cool about not personalizing the book when asked nicely.
  4. Collecting runs was my sole purpose as a youth so buying multiples seemed like a waste of cash that could be spend filling holes in series. I can't remember one friend who bought multiples back in the day.
  5. I actually thought it was going to be another improper pressing thread.
  6. Shadow is pretty much the same in the show and the book in that he is pretty calm and nothing shakes him. I can't think of a single point in the book he is really exciting but more the straight man for all the chaos around him.
  7. Donating or giving away drek is not a big deal. I've given away a short box every Halloween, a few long boxes to kids at my last big Con I set up at or just leaving it beside the road during trash pick up day with a free sign on it. Getting someone to pay shipping for drek is not easy so I can see where people think they can't give it away.
  8. Hey - I'm 44! Maybe I know that guys dad.
  9. I will have to say the two guys I talked to recently about collections were talking about warehouses full of books they had (not sure if I believe the hype) but there has to be so many collections up for grabs once the older guys start thinking about downsizing or moving to Florida.
  10. Comic book characters seem to be hotter then ever so I'd guess people just equate popularity to $$ so they spend extra time researching and trying to sell the books themselves. I'd guess the amount of picked clean collections will become more prevalent since the people will give up after the easy online sales books are gone. I also see less and less Silver-Age books floating around whereas the amount of Bronze/Copper collections seem to be exploding.
  11. Seems like a common trend. X-Men 1 CGC 9.0, CGC 7.5, CGC 6.0 all did approximately equal if not above GPA but the other guys X-Men 1 6.5 did 18% less then GPA.
  12. Did this kick in last week? I thought it was just a slow time of year but I guess everyone is spending all their time sending mass offers to everyone that sales have slowed to a crawl. I'll just set my auto decline to 30% off my BIN to stop all the low ball offers.
  13. Thanks for the heads up. Just grabbed a set of 1-10 including at least one Bolland variant for $36 on e-bay.
  14. Crud - looks like there is just too much stuff going on here at work for me to take that Friday off and driving 14 hours in a weekend is just not in the cards. I love Heroes but ponying up plane ticket money just is not going to happen this year. Next year! Have fun guys!
  15. If they are 9.8 canadits id be happy to sell them to you in a 9.8 case:)
  16. Score - the ASM 238s have the tattoz. Now I've really got to go!
  17. Hard pressed to call any of them keys let along mega keys. But if there are 35 copies of a book you have to think a few are higher grades.
  18. A bunch did not even have boards so I'm expecting a lot of FN to VF copies when I get a full look at them. The mega books like She-Hulk 1 and Spawn should have some 9.6/9.8 contenders but who knows after a press. I've got to run to my daughters dance recital but I'll look more at them tonight.
  19. Thanks bird. The Spawn 1s were some of the nicest books he had to I grabbed the whole stack. I did pass up on a whole long box of Avengers Annual 10 since for some reason he had them priced high. But 300 copies sitting there definitely was strange to see.
  20. A Greggy comment that includes words is like gold to me
  21. Whoops - looks like I double posted one pic. My hands are still shaking! Thanks guys. I also picked these books up at a Con this morning but they were not dirt cheap like the others.
