  1. Run a "buying" ad on Craigslist and let collections come to you.-first advice I put up my first batch last week and I've gotten one call from a guy selling a stack of picked over drek. It doesn't cost anything to post up the ads in Craigslist so there always is a chance to get lucky.
  2. Ugh! I so hate it when people put the other key numbers in the title to attract views. I avoid people that do it no matter how cool the book is.
  3. I can't imaging how popular he will get if the movie is a success. I can't imagine most of the new fans will be clammering for a NM 98 for $1000 but stranger things have happened. Some young/teenage boy/girl see the movie. Love it. Get into comics. Grow up. Get a paying job. Decide to buy something that reminds them of happy childhood memories. Right now the only driving NM98 are the collectors/hoarders...not the general public. Wait 20 years before we can assess the true impact (overblown hype or the next IH 181?). Name (1) character who is more popular than Deadpool from the copper age to present. Does Walking Dead characters count?

  5. Gotta move to Akron... No, you really don't want to. What happened to Akron? Dying town? Some of my best memories as a late teen and young man are rooted in Akron. Did you live in Akron, Roy? I work about 15 minutes outside of Akron but I worked in downtown Akron for about 10 years before taking this job. I have an aunt and uncle and cousins just outside Loyal Oak just off Cleveland / Massilon Rd and I was also best friends with a family just outside Cuyahoga Falls and spent many a weekend partying in downtown Akron and at the Red Roof Inn just off Fairlawn in the late 1980's. My sister ended up marrying the oldest brother of my buddies down there. There were many good times had by this boardie in Akron. I'm 41 so he would have to be older than I think he is. Great mem though!

  7. I heard that buyers and readers are actually increasing. So all those young people who have been buying or reading comics for the past 15 years won't count because their memories won't be nostalgic? No hard number but I would guess the new (25 years and younger) readers are a very minor part of the increase in comic sales. The investors, speculators, and older (over 35) people picking books up for the first time is fueling the increase. There are some new readers and collectors but in such small numbers compared to the earlier generation.
  8. Minecraft is a raging success. Yes it is. And it seems to have some lasting power. I just never got into it and now it seems kind of silly. But I know a lot of people that think comic books are silly.
  9. It`s speculators who are buying it from other speculators for a flip because of the movie. You will find that the newer generation are spending money and playing and not paying big bucks for NM #98. My 11 year old daughter started playing it. It looks pretty boring to me but so does Farmville and those type of games.
  10. Gotta move to Akron... No, you really don't want to. What happened to Akron? Dying town? Goodyear is a shell of what it was and all the production is done overseas so the town is pretty much half empty. There are pockets of success but as a whole you do not want to live in Akron.

  12. So, the market for NM 98 is kids and people that sound like you? I don't forsee a lot of $1000 bills coming out of those wallets, after the speculators have had their fill... But...............these kids grow up, get a job, and then chase the books that were significant to them. Same thing happened with GA, SA, and BA books. I can remember when we used to say the same thing about people buying HG Hulk #181s for top dollar in the early 2000s....... That being said, this past weekend we had kids in their mid teens asking for NM #98s. I was sold out a couple of shows ago, but if I had them then raw 9.0-9.2 copies would have been selling for $250+ no problem as local stores are getting $300 for them already. I think the bigger question is: "will today's youth collect vintage comics of their favorite characters?" Given that none of them have or will read NM 98, I am not 100% sure they will want it at all. Honestly, the same thing can be said about Amazing Fantasy 15 or Hulk 1, et all. I am not sold that the vintage comic collectible market won't completely collapse post retirement of Gen Y... I hope not. Why retirement of Gen Y? I'd say the death of Gen Xs will be the end of comic book collecting as we know it but that's not for another 30 years. Gen Y or Millennials were born starting in 1982; at least the first five years of this generation was heavily influenced by comics in the early 90's and a number of them collect high value (mostly silver age or later) comics. They are also beginning to hit their "buying prime," hence large speculation on books like NM 98 that clearly fell squarely in their youth. I am not saying you are wrong, just a POV. I guess it doesn't really matter since the retirement of Gen Y will pretty much coincide with the death of a majority of the Gen Xers. 30 years is a long ways away.

  14. I don't think we have gotten to a "bubble" price yet. If the going price for a 9.8 is $750 then I still see some upward potential once the movie promos start coming out. IF its a good movie like GOG then I do not see a reason NM 98 should not be mentioned in the same sentence as ASM 300 which is over $1000.
  15. I've stopped posting comic pics unless it's something unusual I like see the odd items that are truly rare like... This is the first time I've found anything worth talking about in my area. If I had luck like you guys I would probably be bored of posting also.
  16. Here are my finds after work - wish the guy would have had more than two copies of X-Force 2 since they are unread and sweet.
  17. We will be having the same discussion about X-Force 2 when that one continues to go up and up. If a X-Force 2 CGC 9.8 hits $200 then we will really see a new high of books submitted for a book. Think about how many X-Force 2s are sitting in long boxes in the world.
  18. What venue? On The boards you could try $175 - $200 to see if anyone is buying. I'd go $225 if you are selling on E-Bay. Now seems like a great time to sell unless you think people will continue to have a hard time getting ahold of the 300,000 or so copies floating around.
  19. My best finds are from my "Want to buy" ads, I've always had my best luck with those. I think about half of the Craigslist ads in my area are people looking to buy collections. Over saturation!
  20. Wait - does this signify this thread or me? Now I'm sounding like one of those bitter trolls. I wish this thread nothing but luck - I'm out.
  21. (thumbs u Oh yea - I forgot there is plenty of jokes also.
  22. Plenty of ideas and opinions being given away and no books. At least the Giving Tree is living up to its name in a way.
  23. Rpg410 contacted me last night and we were able to work everything out. Please remove him from the probation list. Thank you.
  24. I think the 3 day time limit expired this morning. No word from him and he has not ready any of my PMs. Looks like he left town.
