  1. After checking out October's success on Craigslist I decided to check it out again yesterday afternoon. I found a guy selling a set of Captain Britain 1 - 6 in high grade in my area. No #8 in the set but still a nice set for a great price. Best of all they all include the promos like the masks in this #1.
  2. Very nice. If you ever let them go drop me a line. Would be particularly interested in the Quimby Mouse one. Pardon my ignorance, but what are they? +1
  3. That is insane! I just checked out my local Craigslist ads and found jack.
  4. Great buyer who know the good stuff. Thanks for the purchases and the grading.
  5. Two people I talked too about Flash says this is the best show on TV. The best man at my wedding who is in his forties, and my 22 year old nephew. So I guess it`s a hit for all ages. I liked it myself. I haven`t watched them all yet, but will do now with all the good buzz. Its not better then Daredevil but it in my top 5 shows right now. Love the cliffhangers at the end of most of the episodes.
  6. So you want to have an auction where the buyer bids and you bump their bids by increments, like on eBay? After reading how badly a simple take it by PM thingy went...I think it wouldn't be worth the pain you'd suffer. I also think the fun of the auctions here are "live" bidding. I just did one and I enjoyed it, but if I did it over, I'd probably limit it to a day. It does sound like it would border on more work then it's worth but there are only so many people online around when an auction closes. Most other auction you can post your max bid and you know you will only pay a bit more then the lower bid. We do not have a way to get around this limitation so I find auctions end much lower then direct sales. After thinking about it this evening I'll drop the idea and avoid the headache.
  7. I just grabbed some sweet books from my LCS and I was thinking about quickly clearing them out by offering them as an auction. Problem is I'll only do it if I can have people PM me their top bid and I'll bump the current bid based on the others PM bids and bids I get in the thread itself. I know this format depends on my trustworthiness but I think I've shown I can be trusted over the last 10 years. Is this auction format against the rules? I know there will need to be a ton of explanations and rules to have the entire thing be transparent but I think it's the only way to have a fair auction since a bunch of people don't like to hang around at the end of an auction time. Thoughts?
  8. That would be sweet. A bunch of DC drek will become must have books.
  9. I just got a consignment of a huge OO collection that has about 3,000 comic books. Most of the books are late silver and Bronze Age with a few Golden Age books scattered into the mix. The owner sold off the keys at a local show and has send a bunch of the highest grade books in for grading but I'm selling the rest. I'll start up a sales thread early next week and should keep adding books for the foreseeable future. I'm super excited to bring these to the market since they have been sitting in storage for 40 years.
  10. Assuming you do not have a barcode scanning system how do you keep track of what sells? I see most smaller dealers write down any book over $1 but I can't imagine that's how you do it with your operation.
  11. It was great getting to meet you the other day it was very cool to be able to hold so many Grail books at one time. That AF 15 was calling my name or was it that sweet X-Men 1. Heck - I wished I could have gotten any of them.
  12. I bet he wishes someone would steal the van since his insurance payoff would be fantastic. no way. Love the comics too much. If the insurance paid you 100% of what you hoped to sell the books for would you would still be sad they were gone?

  14. Where do you live in Florida? I assumed you were in Miami but I see its a 3 hour drive up to Orlando from Miami - was the 6 hours due to traffic? Lived in Miami in the mid 90s. We are in the nw panhandle of Florida, opposite end of the state I still haven't forgiven the stupid Marlins for beating the Indians in the world series in the mid 90s. 1 out away from getting the 1st championship in 40 years.

  16. Would also like to know this Sorry. Missed this. 1-I don't really. Most of what I sell I don't have the margins to discount to allow a dealer to resell. There are always exceptions but I don't really sell much to other resellers. 2-I do alter my material based on venue. This is generally learned from experience...no real "data" out there other than experience setting up 3-our store is there for our customers. We are happy breaking even. Cons are fun...my wife likes to travel, I really enjoy meeting with and see new and old friends, and yes, I generally make a fair profit I don't understand your response to #1. Isn't your margin directly connected to your profits (which you say are good)? Are you saying you pay a premium for your top shelf inventory (you do have an amazing inventory) so you don't have the ability or desire to discount books like other dealers? I can't wait to check out your booth at Heroes in a couple months. My general margins on better books is not strong enough to offer a discount (generally) to anyone. I've always operated my business with the "volume" mentality. When we were distributing toys/action figures, we built out business on lower margins than everyone but tremendous volume. I rather sell 100 items at $1 profit than 10 items at $5. I've kind of taken same approach with comics. You definitely are doing a ton of stuff right. Thanks for all the great responses and a killer thread.

  18. Way better $1 books then I typically see at Cons.
  19. Ever consider putting your price sticker just below or to the right of the CGC grade so it stands out when you fan the books in your display? It may cover up a tiny part of the cover if its below the grade but I like to see the prices more then the tiny part of the cover. Just a thought.
  20. I give up. Is the guy with the backpack the world famous guy who normally wears his underwear on the outside of his pants?
  21. Very helpful info Gator! Love the step by step pictures.
  22. Lay out what you think they will do respectively, I am curious to see the argument. It's more of a gut feeling over a defendable argument. With two major internationally known characters I just don't see the Cap 3 movie completely blowing it away with double box office numbers. I don't have a clue what either will pull in but I think Sup/Bats will do well enough Caps will not be able to double it no matter how well it does.
  23. I'm happy to bet $20 on Cap 3 not doubling Bats vs Superman in worldwide sales. How do we define the total tally for both movies. Once the rules are set, let me know. I may want in on this since Chip is giving away cash. I'll take that bet. $20 each against you and Andrew. Final totals for world-wide box office are the only numbers relevant in the bet. Cap 3 will be twice the total of BvS. I'm confident in this. The logic for it is sound. It's not "Kool Aid," Hector...it's logic based on past performance of the movies in the current box office landscape. It makes complete and total sense. Also, regarding the general public's knowledge of whatever movies are related or inter-connected...the thing that will matter is that I believe Cap 3 will be a much better movie in- and of-itself than BvS with no other factors involved. It will be better written, directed and acted. $20 it is against worldwide total. My recommendation is Box Office Mojo and Boxoffice.com as the reference point for final results. Thenumbers.com seem to take longer to capture international results. And I am doing this as a friendly wager. Not a 'you must be crazy' challenge. For the record I think Cap will be a much better movie then Bat/Sups but I don't think the box office difference will come close to 2x. Both will be huge draws at the box office.
