  1. Flash Gordon Whitman Lot: Includes all three installments (#31, 32, & 33) of the ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR 1981 movie adaptation written by Bruce Jones, and drawn in high EC style by the legendary Al Williamson. All of these appear to be unread, are VF+ or better, and are all from the same OO collection -- mostly ncb and/or general storage wear to the spines and front covers are the worst of it. $20 + shipping for the whole lot. SOLD!!!
  2. Mixed "oddball" Marvel/DC Lot: Includes the following… • Ghosts #12 - VG+. • House of Mystery #198 - VF. • Strange Sports Stories #2 - Fine+. • Millie the Model #198 - F/VF. Looks and feels a good bit nicer, but there is some foxing to the bottom edge of the FC. • My Love #11 - VG/VG+. Back cover has a few small vertical tears along the top edge. • Our Love Story #21 - VG+. $15 + shipping for the whole lot.
  3. Secret Society of Super-Villains #2: Re-intro of Captain Comet and origin re-told + a fairly early "re-boot"/re-purposing of elements from Kirby's "Fourth World/New Gods" saga, which is as important to DC's cinematic universe as Starlin's "borrowed" Kirby-isms are to Marvel's! An overlooked and underrated gem that I've always loved. Manitoba copy -- 9.2 w/certificate. $25 + shipping.
  4. Master of Kung Fu #64: Classic cover by Gulacy. Manitoba copy -- 9.2 w/certificate. $15 + shipping.
  5. BA Byrne Avengers lot - 185, 186, 187: Absolutely classic -- the late-'70s, 3-issue Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver origin story by Micheline and Byrne...kind of a dry run for Claremont and Byrne's "Dark Phoenix Saga" in X-Men which struck gold a year or so later. These are fresh and unread early direct market copies -- all from the same OO collection, and all in the 9.2/9.4 range. Some very light ncb wear is about the worst of it. $45 + shipping for all three. SOLD!!!
  6. Both of these higher grade Gold Keys are from the same OO collection… Banana Splits #2: 9.0+. Very sharp copy for the grade -- a small collection of spine tics, some of which don't show in the scan, plus some light ncb wear to the front cover are the worst of it. The corners are sharp, and the staples are as shiny as the day the book rolled off the presses. Banana Splits #6: 9.2/9.4 -- possibly better. A beautiful copy all around. File copies? They sure look and feel like it, and they do turn up here in MD, but I can't say for sure... $55 + shipping for the pair.
  7. Detective Comics #437: First "modern" Manhunter by Archie Goodwin and Walt Simonson -- an early/mid-'70s high point for DC. Underrated, and not a super easy book to find in nice shape these days, either. This copy is very fresh -- smooth and glossy…it wanted to slide across my scanner. A few spine ticks, some ncb wear, and a production crease on the back cover are about the worst of it. A very, very nice example for the assigned grade -- you won't be disappointed. VF++. $60 + shipping.

  9. WOW! Outstanding information...thanks for taking the time to do this. I have always loved these, and have a complete set of the '76 stickers (still missing a few of the checklist cards/puzzle pieces)...
  10. I'm certain Maggie Thompson would know, but I couldn't find any current contact info for her. On the other hand, her son (Stephen Thompson) hosts something on NPR called the "Pop Culture Happy Hour": https://www.facebook.com/pchh I'm not on Facebook, but maybe someone who is could message him and ask him to ask his mom, or (better) have her chime in here!
  11. Thanks Sharon, and everyone else! Much appreciated. Best, -Mike
  12. Yeah. That really sucks. I know this isn't always possible, but with books of that value, and with full tracking and transit data available days in advance and throughout the delivery chain--including the estimated day & time of delivery--I always try to be at home myself to receive the package if I can, or make sure that someone is home and is on the lookout for it. Drivers and delivery personnel can't always be trusted to do the right thing, which is why--fair or not--as a general rule I don't trust them to do it at all. In any case, that doesn't excuse the thief, nor the crummy driver. I hope they both get what's coming to them...!
  13. Okay...tough crowd. I'll start -- my knee-jerk reaction, after selling > $20k worth of GA on eBay in the late '90s and early/mid '00s, is that this lot--if the best books are complete--is probably in the $700 - $900 range at full retail these days. I'm guessing it will be easier to tell me I'm an out-of-touch muffinhead who's full of beans than for someone to chime in with an original thought...!!!
  14. The father-in-law of an old and dear friend of mine passed away earlier this year. My friend's wife was going through some of her father's things this weekend (it's been a long and difficult process), and found the comics and other related items pictured below. I sold off all of my GA a long time ago to pay for my kid's tuition, and haven't followed that market in over 10 years now. Clearly there is some value here -- especially if the six GA hero books + the coverless Batman 38 are complete (unknown -- I only have these iPhone pictures at this point). And God only knows where that modern issue of The Flash came from! So...assuming the worthwhile GA books are complete and in the Fair/Good range, what do the experts here think a ballpark RETAIL value for the lot would be, for insurance/estate valuation purposes? To be clear -- as far as I know, these books are NOT for sale: I have NO intention of making an offer, and am not interested in brokering them. I'm just trying to help a buddy out. Thanks!
  15. Probably wayyyy too early to know. I've dealt with flooding here at my house for years, but thankfully NEVER at anything even remotely close to the level which Harvey produced. At this point, I'm sure that finding long-term shelter, the restoration of basic services, and clearing away debris so victims can actually get back to their homes and assess the damage is much more important to people than inventorying a comic book collection...
  16. Great stuff! But I'm pretty sure that the Green Hornet #8 cover is by Joe Simon only -- it just doesn't have the JK panache!
  17. Hey all...please see below for an artifact from the old boards (ca. 3-4 years ago or so): my thumbnail scans for ALL of the books in Jack's legendary and mythopoeic Fourth World saga, which many King Kirby fans (including me!) regard as his magnum opus -- the purest extant expression of Kirby's mature & untrammeled cosmic imagination, albeit tainted by short-sighted editorial and commercial considerations which, sadly, were beyond Jack's control. Unfortunately, due to Photobucket's decision to screw its users, I'm not sure if the links to the full-size scans are still available. Bummer! The good news, of course, is that Kirby's visionary appreciation of reality, in all of its multifaceted glory, cannot be limited by size, which like time itself is relative, and which his pulp fiction forays into quantum microverses ("Worlds Within Worlds") obviated anyway. Kirby's love supreme for truth and beauty, as he envisioned it, will never be constrained. As Blake said, "If the doors of perception were cleansed, every thing would appear to man as it is, Infinite..." Time isn't holding us, and time isn't after us...that which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been. Long Live the King, and happy birthday indeed!
  18. All hail The King on his centennial! One-hundred years from now, the greatest works of his prodigious imagination will still be as fresh, exciting, and challenging as they were the day he created them. I only have one scan handy at the moment -- the first Kirby comic I remember buying off the stands as a 10 year-old. My OO copy is still in my collection, but it's not nearly as nice as this one, which I got from MCS a year or two ago...
