  1. "We have already made significant improvements to our processes as a result of this incident..." ^^^Interesting I wonder if the significant improvement tp the process was to provide scans of all books, starting this past summer. I also wonder if thats actually when CGC found out this was happening.
  2. Not joking. I planned on buying a ASM 129 in the 9.0 - 9.2 range when my income tax refund came. Not anymore.
  3. This is a very complicated case, man. You know...a lot of ins...a lot of outs...a lot of what have yous.
  4. Same book. Look at the mark above the "E" in MARVEL at the top of the book. Both books have it.
  5. I hope CGC is able to stop this from happening in the future but I dont think CGC needs to do anything about what has already happened. They should care what we think but this situation is tricky and I see them, most likely, hiding behind the old "grading is subjective" slogan. CGC to anyone who asks: "Grading is subjective." Scammer to anyone who asks: "Sounds like a conspiracy theory to me." Both of these statements, in relation to this situation, may be lies... but lying doesnt seem to be a frowned upon much anymore. Plausible deniability is all the rage.
  6. When I first started cracking out my books, it was a major pain in the butt because I was trying to crack the slab open on all sides. Ive learned the top of the slab is the easiest door to pull an inner well through... and it doesnt visibly damaging the case. The top corners pop open with very little effort... then just slide a finger nail along the top... stick your pinky in there to hold it open... turn it upside down and shake it until the inner well falls... grab it and pull it out. Ive done it so many times at this point that its not even a challenge. I probably have over 20 - 25 pristine empty slabs in my basement Do better, CGC.
  7. I traded a pack of grape "Now And Laters" for a Wolverine #1 (reg series) back in 1989, when I was 12.
  8. Didnt say he was. I said the grade is a lie... AT THIS POINT. And it is.
  9. Damn...so basically the grades are a lie at this point. Wow.
  10. Yep, we watched the movie too. No bueno... Leguizamo was good though.
  11. I recently watched The Spawn animated series with my 15 year old daughter. It was pretty good, Id never seen it. Twitch is a badass!
  12. Meet him wherever he wants...show up wearing all black, gloves and a ski mask.
  13. Sure! As long as they are pretty 9.4s or solid 9.6s.
  14. I dont blame him for trying to get what he thinks they should fetch. He quoted me a price on issues 400 to 441 that I just couldnt pay and I countered at $10 a book. We couldnt make that deal happen, but again, I understand where hes coming from. I think im a lot like him. Collecting the ASM run that I have, in NM+ condition (#194 - 400), was a long road to travel with many, many bumps along the way. I wouldnt ... I couldnt possibly part with them for less than what they are worth TO ME but thats how I know, barring tragedy, that I will never sell them. Ill leave them for my kids to deal with. That being said, if I ever do NEED to sell them, I understand the comic market and I know what to expect. Most buyers simply wont buy a long run with zero key issues for more than $5 a book. Thats why most folks will try and sell the keys for top dollar but take a bit of a bath on the non keys. Thats just how the market works. I have seen NM / ASM runs of issues 300 to 400 sell for $2000 on Ebay. But there are some nice keys in that run.
  15. If they are NM+ and I need them, Ill pay up to $10 a book for ASM. But they better all be pristine.
  16. How does MCS get around the Ebay fees? Or do they just eat the difference as a cost of doing business? How do they make money?
  17. Hello friend. Id be interested in Amazing 401 through 700. You would have to ship them to Rhode Island. If interested, shoot me a private message with a price.
  18. Marvel will never die unless they "Men In Black / red light" the whole world into forgetting Spider man.
  19. I have a 15 year old daughter and for Christmas last year I bought her the complete Batgirl (Rebirth), Super Girl (1996) and Spider Girl (1998) series' and she loved them. I dont know how common those series' are to find in low grade but they would work too. I just figured Wonder Woman has been around for so long, they may be easier to find in low grade.
  20. And maybe some Wonder Woman for the girls?
  21. Ill def keep my eye out, thanks. Im a huge Spidey fan so im gonna try and grab all the Spidey titles I can find.
  22. I hear you. Its risky approaching strange kids with gifts these days and I dont have many kids in my neighborhood, mostly retired folks. Ill figure out a way to get comics in the hands of kids. I usually go to the mall for lunch and there are always kids eating with their parents in the food court. Im thinking Ill bring a few books with me each day and approach the parents, ask permission to give the kid a free comic. That will probably be my strategy. Approach parents with kids and ask permission.
  23. I work in an office and I keep a short stack of mostly TPBs in my desk. A co worker brought her 12 year old son in for the day and as I watched him playing games on his mothers phone, I thought: "Why not see if this kid will read a comic." So I grabbed (Spider Man - The Birth Of Venom TPB) and asked her if its okay to let her son read the book. "Sure.", she said, "But hell probably just look at the pictures." Putting her surrendering to technology aside, I gave him the book and watched from a distance. He didnt lift his head for 15-20 minutes before going back to the phone. Did he just look at the pics?...I m not sure but it was a victory in my eyes either way. A while later I asked him if he liked Spider man and he told me he had seen all the movies but never read a comic before. Of course he was talking about all the recent movies, he had never seen the Toby Maguire movies. He asked if he could take the book home and I told him its his now, he can keep it and Id be giving his mom more in the future to take home to him. Man, did he smile at that. Im on a mission now. I dont own a lot of low grade books. Im a very specific collector (ASM, X-Men, Spawn) and I only collect high grade copies. I do frequent a local flea market where a guy has boxes of unbagged, low grade books he sells 3 for $1. My plan is to buy a long box of readers this weekend and Ill give them away every chance I get. So... if possible, give a kid a comic.
