Boy, given some of the things I've heard and seen from CBCS that's a bold move.

I don’t understand this line of thinking. If we know that we have hundreds of slabs from this one person alone that have been opened, and we have videos showing how easy it is to tamper with them, doesn’t Occam’s razor dictate that’s exactly the case?  If not what is your theory?

I've been impressed with the social media/youtuber community on this.   They've been working well, and synergistically with the information provided here on the boards.   It still seems to be a hot topic.   The last podcast with 9.9newstand raising the point, of whether additional lists of books will be released by CGC, as they continue to sort through this issue.
It seems there were other's involved, knowingly, and unknowingly.    The depth of this scam isn't fully bottomed out at this point.

So if the words CBCS comes up in ANY post is that also not allowed? I'm asking because I don't want to be punished again for speaking truth. The video posted quite literally didn't promote one case over the other. No where in the video did he say BUY CBCS NOT CGC. It was used for educational purposes and it served its purpose well. That is all there is too it. I'm not taking sides I'm also hoping CGC can take a hint and change the tooling of the cases to get this fixed SOON. But with MANY MANY millions of crack able cases out there its a moot point yes?

    This is a ridiculous comparison.
Testing the integrity of a case and demonstrating the ease, or not, with how it can be opened is LIGHT YEARS away from cracking a case, swapping labels/books, sending back to CGC for a reholder and/or attempting to resell that book to an unsuspecting buyer.

Really appreciate your feedback and thank you for honest input. I have followed and USE RELIGIOUSLY big johns methods and have never received a purple label myself. I have sent in to date 325 or so books using UV peroxide treatments and immacuclean. Never not once a purple label. BUT where I have seen the disparaging part is within the last 2 months several very well known cleaners/pressers have been slapped on the wrist with "COVER TOO CLEAN" and "COVER CLEANED" purple labels. Now since I myself didnt see these first hand and was not there before sending them off to inspect I cant say for certain they were right or wrong. However I can say that several well known cleaners/pressers have run into this issue as of late. My concern is/was that is CGC now going to go on a tirade with this causing people to resubmit books hence making more money for CGC. We all just saw CGCs MASSIVE price increase for mid tier books 1k and up, be bumped way up! I think its a money grab and this is just one more way to get money by CGC.

the information is in the graders notes and is stated as "cover cleaned", see attached examples which are the books that the Youtube user "Improve-Collecting Comics" discussed in the video posted earlier in this very thread on page 1.
My guess is CGC is detecting wet cleaning residue not removed properly/entirely OR restoration that was there before the submitter even performed his cleaning to the book.

Ahhhh yes..............fond memories and longing for those days of yesteryears gone by when both pressing and micro-trimming were still considered to be restoration with no redeeming conservation value at all and a heinous activity only practiced by those naughty naughty comic book "doctors" working whilst hidden away in their darkened dungeons.
Then came the "awakening" on these very boards here when all of our eyes were forced opened to see what was actually being done to so many of our treasured books in order to obtain that big exalted number in the top left hand corner of the slab.  It was only then that after many days and many nights of derision and angst by all of the board members here that Moses Borock came down from his fabled mountain top and declared that pressing was really nothing more than maximization of potential while micro-trimming was considered to be destruction of a comic book.
Can you just imagine what this marketplace would look like today if the holy tablet that Borock eventually brought down from his mountain top had declared that micro-trimming was really nothing more than maximization of potential whilst pressing was considered to be destruction of a comic book.  Why, we could all be living in a Bizarro world where Jason Ewert was looked upon as the All-Mighty and President of CGC while Nelson was deemed to be the Devil incarnate himself and banished from the comic book marketplace.  And of course admist all this, we would have the comic book speculators, flippers, and day traders all scurrying around looking for the "sharpest edged" comic books, all while sporting the sharpest razor thin cutting edged pair of sccissors in their back pockets brought right off the shelves of the local loonie store.

I've read most of the foregoing posts, and just to toss my hat into the ring: I believe that any book determined to be obviously cleaned and pressed should be deemed restored and/or enhanced.  Both preservation and presentation are arts unto themselves, and should be respected as such. If you can't confirm either without reasonable doubt, then set them free.

I understand some of the questions but attacking people for bringing up the question is petty. I amongst many others do my own cleaning and pressing and I am concerned that cleaning books will bring a PLOD for using a water bath and dry eraser. These are very basic techniques and yes some of these are getting flagged as "RESTORED". CGC is basing alot of this on assumptions because if you look at a cover and see it cleaned and tidy then open up the book and see tanned pages well you are going to assume it was cleaned. I reallty dont want to argue with anyone. It seems thats all people do now adays is find something to argue about no matter what. I like to think these forums and others like this are here to help/educate/uplift people. I see too many people happy or upset that someone else is able to do something they cant or wont and then attack. I did ask for opinions and I thank each and everyone who participates in this all be it negative or positive. I will gladly debate anyone with decoram and kindness anyday about what RESTORATION vs CLEANING means. Hopefully we can all learn something from this as we go. And for those who asked about evidence or proof the one video poseted is just the tip of the iceberg. Hang tight I will post a few more here so you can see some of the seeds of chaos this is sewing. Hobby Hero/ Immaculate Comics is a really amazing person who is always on the cutting edge of responsible cleaning https://www.youtube.com/@ImmaculateComics. I can keep going but start with these and I will answer questions as I go.

My understanding is that if a comic is improperly dry cleaned (say some color rub occurs or an abrasion is created), the book is simply downgraded in a universal label... it never gets a restored label.  What makes this topic a little suspect to me is that there are many long time AND VOCAL CGC board members that have dry cleaned and submitted hundreds if not thousands of books, and as far as I know, not a single one has reported a solely dry cleaned book having received a restored label.

This could all be cleared up if someone from CGC would just come out and say what “cover cleaned” actually means. Does it mean chemicals were detected? Does it mean it was damaged in some way from aggressive dry cleaning?

I don’t think they need everyone here leaping to their defense but again, I understand that lots of people have a financial interest in CGC’s reputation. That said, a lot more people watch those YouTube videos than read these forums so the reputational damage will get done either way.

Just defending myself. If people attack me I should defend myself yes? Or is it ok to let the attacks continue and the attackee to just stop replying and leave like a coward? That empowers bullies they think "they won something". It also encourages them to continue on. So If I very politely defend myself without cursing is it a problem? If so then the attacker should be reprimanded to stop the entire thing agreed? I mean it takes 2 to argue correct? To allow bully commentors to "roam the halls" so to speak, isnt a great idea. I did see you step in but I still see the continued "egging on" which is not going to curtail an argument. Its like poking a bear and not expecting to get mauled. But I do see your point because in hindsight I could just leave it alone but I hate bullies and I stand up for those who are buillied in life. It just irks me when keyboard commandos think they are something they are not.

So my self awareness is great thank you for not noticing the intentions behind that. If you decide to attack me I will in turn do the same. This is a board for disscussing comics. Let’s make this simple. There’s two possibilities here, either the guy in the video originally posted is lying or the grader made a mistake. I can provide all kinds of evidence of grading mistakes around wrong labels, missed alterations and the like. Can you find one instance of this guy lying? If not then I’m afraid you just don’t have a point.

Also maybe address my point about graders notes.

No, there's more than 2 possibilities. The most likely possibility is that the books are restored. Doesn't make much sense to argue otherwise without concrete evidence.
    No.
