  1. I was. I thought it would sell at or below the Heritage 3.0 copy. I figured the book is around $75k a point, looks like it has no effect with the comic book down market.
  2. There was also that Ewert trimming scandal where he tried to pass off trimmed books that he knew of to CGC to have them graded and slabbed in universal labels. I dunno what became of it. Also read about holding buyer's money for his own gain to purchase comics for himself. Not sure about the full details on that. Quite a few stuff that were claimed which is why I'll never do biz with him.
  3. Or just buy what you like and what you can afford
  4. Congrats to your friend. The question is, did he win them at his max bid or did he get a good deal on them? Pedigree doesn't really have a stellar reputation based on past negative practices. Not sure how it is now, but bidders and collectors can form their own opinion and make their own judgements whether they want to do business with Pedigree. I'm just reporting based on some of the experiences and research board members have posted here in the past. Also, I'm curious to know why I have not seen Pedigree Comics set-up at any major comic conventions. In my 20 years being in this hobby, I've never seen a Pedigree booth. You would think being a pretty known comic auction house that they would set up to take in consignments and promote their biz. It's something I just thought about and I don't think I ever saw an answer to this.
  5. I noticed that as well, but it is afterall Pedigree Comics... Who knows if there were any shenanigans with the bidding.
  6. I partook in the bidding, had a max of $60k. Congrats to @comicnoir for the strong price!
  7. probably not too good right about now I'm guessing that buyer didn't know there was an 8.0 copy up for auction OR he took a gamble and bought the 7.5 copy before the results of the 8.0 thinking it may go up to $200k 😬
  8. Better record yourself eating it and upload the video of it here as proof
  9. 7.5 sold on Instagram for 140k+ recently I wonder how that buyer for the 7.5 copy is feeling now after the 8.0 sold for $90k, exactly at the price it previously sold for back in 2018 . Asking $140k for a 7.5 is a very strong price, great for the seller.
  10. With the result on the More Fun 52 today, does this mean that $264K is the new $500K or did something weird happened in the final few minutes of the auction? Someone got a good deal in my opinion. Bad timing to sell a book of this magnitude at auction. Might have done better in a private sale.
  11. A 3.0 is around a 100k, I believe it's the last unrestored copy that sold publicly. $500k+ for the 8.5 is certainly accurate unless something weird happens between now and the final minutes 😆
  12. He mentioned that he is not strap for money, but I guess he would prefer to sell for a decent price to maybe recover some losses. As others have mentioned on here, a few people have spoken out that it's better to hold and maybe sell later when prices are heating up. I'm sure some people are DM'ing offers for one book for for all.
  13. I'm a member at this one comic collecting group on Facebook and one guy posted saying he bought several SA keys back during the height in 2021. I browsed through the pix and be bought mid grade copies of AF 15, Hulk 1, FF 1, Avengers 1, etc. all in that period. He is now taking offers to sell his mini collection and realizes he will take a substantial loss. I believe this is the first time he ever bought comic books because he is a toy collector from what I can gather from his page. It sucks that a lot of people like him who were not in the hobby before nor have any previous knowledge bought during the peak, now I'm sure because of the spiral downturn we are seeing, he will likely leave the hobby.
  14. I'd probably build a hidden door leading to a collectors room that is very well concealed. I believe Jim Lee has one of those in his house. I thought it was pretty cool.
  15. Sad news indeed and very shocking!!! It seemed like he was having a great life: great career, a new movie out sometime next year, his wife and kids, and of course his huge fantasy. You just never know what's really going on in a person's mind. I was fortunate to have met him at SDCC one year when he showed up. Great and friendly guy who genuinely cares for his fans. I was also a huge fan of MMPR show ever since it started in the early 90s. He will be missed! RIP JDF
  16. I agree with you, I wouldn't either. Just putting it out there
  17. There is this too which has been popular recently. Not for everyone, but it is an option. https://www.pwccmarketplace.com/vault
  18. https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/superhero/batman-1-dc-1940-cgc-pr-05-brittle-pages/a/7283-96017.s?ic2=mytracked-lotspage-lotlinks-12202013&tab=MyTrackedLots-101116 Can't believe someone paid $40k+ for this brittle paged copy of Bat 1. You can see a bunch of brittled scraps inside the holder itself . Basically paying for this book to deteriorate even more and soon turn to dust
  19. No not about this book, but a few books that were won in the past. I dunno maybe Heritage has gotten better displaying the books naturally with their scanning, but I've read that a few complained that they have tweaked it to look better. I think I had just one experience, but it wasn't anything major with the back cover when I received the book in hand. It was suttle that I just let it be.
  20. I was taking a hard look into it too as a bidder. But decided to opt out. There will be more. Congrats on a sweet pickup! It sure is a beautiful 8.0 copy! Hopefully the Heritage scans of the book are accurate in person. I believe a few boardies complained that the scans were tweaked to make it look brighter and nicer. Hopefully it's no longer the case.
  21. Wohooo soon it'll be at cover price of 12c as I have predicted
  22. $552k. Another 8.5 copy sold at Goldin for $707k late last year. Quite a drop
