  1. Does this count? Sure it's not ride the rocket, but ride the short, I meant longbox.
  2. Is it the same one being auctioned off right now on Heritage?
  3. I've seen this "new" technique done by a professional restoration expert where he would do a cover bath, which is a non-restorative technique, to make what was once white covered books white again. It's kinda like a bleach wash, but not really because the book would grade out in a universal label. Only problem is, is what would be the long term effects of this non-restorative wash? I had a long discussion about this wash with Tracy Heft and he is very much against due to the above.
  4. Does not matter his collection was great. Absolutely!
  5. I'm also thinking that maybe the dad got beaten out of buying an Action 1 by someone else. A lot of scenarios going on. Hopefully his heirs can shed light to it in the documentary as to whether they have an Action 1 or whether it was a missed opportunity for the dad.
  6. this ^. Who really knows how brittle the pages are, but I would think that if the pages were flipped for viewing, some paper may flake off from the pages itself. I would be more confident in handling the book if it were designated as slightly brittle. I owned a slightly brittle book once before and I was able to look at each page with ease without any further damage.
  7. Maybe he did buy an Action 1 but it hasn't been revealed yet or family is keeping in a secret. Afterall, the dad was a big Superman fan!!!
  8. Good question! I'm having a difficult time assessing what makes a book restored vs conserved. Looking at the notes of the book, to me, it screams that it should be in a purple holder. There's just a lot of work done to it!!! It also seems that the very top edge of the book may have been trimmed back then and because of leaf casting, it is now made whole. I bet some people didn't even know that this book was once trimmed and should really be careful when it comes to buying higher end books. Btw, isn't leaf casting the same as having pieces added? I mean paper is being added to the original comic essentially..
  9. The dad was truly a visionary of his time. Who would've thought that these paper-made collectibles such as comics and cards could be worth millions today. He had a plan insight by installing those huge storage metal containers inside his house. It's like he time traveled to the future, saw how the world was during that time then traveled back to his current time to accumulate all these treasures. Just remarkable!
  10. Great collection indeed! Truly a 1/1 type of collection that each of us would love to discover, or in this case inherited. I was reading comments about other people's viewpoint on different social media platforms and it seems that there are two sides/groups that are happening. On one side of the group are people who are pissed off with the ex-wife (she divorced him because of hoarding all this stuff around the house) and the son (for not entirely interested with anything and resented his dad for amassing the collection) because of the $$$ signs they see after selling Dale's (the father) collection. Now that he has passed away, they are both on board and are praising him for the collection because they are reaping the rewards. On the other side, there are those who emphatize with the family because as JollyComics mentioned above, Dale placed his collection above his own wife and son and not telling them exactly what he was doing. Everything was kept a secret and that no one is allowed to see exactly what he was buying. Yes that can put a strain to the marriage and father/son relationships. But anyways, to each there own. Would've been great to hear Dale's side of the story, but unfortunately that won't happen. Also what I gathered is that Dale was a regular at his lcs Kingdom Comics ij Detroit back in the late 70's and early 80's. Must've been the time he picked up some of these treasures.
  11. It's so bad on this copy, but surprisingly doesn't detract as much from the appeal as it could on another book. Yeah, it ain't too bad but if I was gonna pay 6 or more figures for a book, eye appeal has to be at the very top for me regardless of grade. I think there is a Cap 1 with the off color registration that looks horrendous!!! I believe it was graded in a green label as a result?
  12. Wo! That's high praise! I think so too. The one thing I don't like about the MC 1 is the off-color registration.
  13. Also an idea, but the owner should at the very least take home the expensive books instead of leaving them in the displays overnight... Especially without having insurance to cover for any potential losses/damages. Hopefully the books can be recovered and thieves caught. It was tough to see during the interview with the owner how emotional he was talking about how it took years of work to put all this up together and now it's been stripped away
  14. I know it's not golden age, but this book will definitely not soften in price. It creates a lot of stiff competition for people who want to bid and own this book.
  15. https://www.wndu.com/2023/03/21/founder-releases-surveillance-video-burglary-hall-heroes-museum/
  16. I'd rather give myself a golden shower than pay for their grading
  17. With regards to a certain amount of color touch that cab remain on a book and still get a blue label, yes it's possible only for golden age books. I don't know exactly how much color touch can be left to achieve the unrestored label. Tear seal removal is difficult to see in scans, but very easy to remove I believe.
  18. If you have the $, you can certainly pickup a 9.4 copy right now. Seems like SA keys have cooled off. Now might be a golden opportunity to buy a copy. Hope someday you have a high graded copy.
  19. Not at this time. I'm extremely happy with my copy. Looks better than the assigned CGC grade in my opinion.
  20. That's a beautiful looking 2.5 with a white cover. Somewhat hard to find one like that as most have yellowed or tanned through the years. Congrats!
