Look at it this way, one year closer to that sweet sweet senior discount at the movies.

I’m the proud owner of this Detective #27. I purchased the book in 2003 and time to let it go!
I decided to go the auction house route because it’s difficult to price out for a potential private deal. I chose Comic Link because it was my go to when I was buying books in the day. I started auctioning off books there around 6 months or so. Nothing but professional service and fast payments after books sold!
CGC is accurate in their grading notes but it was hard to tell if the centrefold was married. The centrefold pages seem consistent with the page quality and sizing of the margins compared to the surrounding pages. The spine margins are slightly brittle but the rest of the interior pages are supple and off/white pages.
I took some photos of the interior pages before CGC slabbed the book
Here are the Batman pages from the book!

As an aside, if the Detective's name is Flake Cantina and he only agrees to take the case if you video chat with him, there is nothing to be suspicious about!
Just email his business associate who shares the same email address for references.

Well if anyone ever had a shot at a solidly presenting partially coverless Tec 27 for a potentially decent price, this would be it. With the married centerfold/back cover and slightly brittle pages, may push some bidders away. I honestly have no problem whatsoever with any of those issues. Would be more than ecstatic to own this copy.
Will be interesting to see what it hammers at. I suspect still somewhere over $100K, but who knows. Maybe it sells for less.

Anyone who is spending that kind of money on a book will do their research first and figure out the authentic copies from the fake or reprinted ones.
I highly doubt the book will sell

That's what I thought. I don't understand how they get away with these scams. Obviously noone's buying, but he's pitching a fake version. So should be illegal or just against Ebay guidelines.

    For anyone that is interested

I have been contacted by a detective in Oregon who has been tasked with handling the case associated with Mike and HR.

It seems law enforcement is getting involved, and you will likely hear from detectives out of the Albany, OR Sheriff’s department soon.

If anyone would like the detective’s contact info; DM me and I will ask them about having you added to the investigation.

That's about the only detail that I did ask her about. I found her through her mother which of course was Uncle Bill's sister. I only had a first name to go from a family photo I found that had only first names in the little description underneath. In it was a teenage girl.  I figured that would be his niece but at that point I still wasn't sure I had the right guy. I couldnt find her last name for two reasons- Her father's last name wasn't Holt plus she was married by now. I gave up for a few months then I gave it one more shot and found her married name from a family members obituary from the 90's. From there it was easy. It was so cool to hear her initial response to my first message to her which confirmed I had the right man. "You've done your research well" she said. She was very nice but for all she knew I was some creepy scammer so I didn't want to ask her too many questions.
To answer your question I asked her if her Uncle was an art teacher and she said no. I told her the books have check marks and lines written on many of the pages but she knew nothing about that. I read somewhere that there was tracing paper between the pages of the books at the time they were sold to the bookstore but I didn't think to ask her about that.
From there I just put Mr. Nelson in contact with her and I haven't spoken to her since. I know he's spoken to her. I'm sure he'll let us know what more he found out soon. Mr. N if you're reading this I'm sorry I couldn't keep it inside any longer, I know you're a very busy guy especially this past year .
I'm pretty sure some people here thought the books did come from someone named W.C. Holt Jr. so it's not like I cracked the Tom Reilly mystery (which by the way I did quite a bit to find any record of Tom and came up empty over and over). I just used the internet for this. It wasn't anywhere near the effort for example member @Karen's Pages put in when researching the Okajima collection.
My one and only W.C. Holt Jr book

Hey everyone, I guess the time has come for me to stop keeping this between CGC and myself.  About a year ago I made contact through the innernet with the niece of the original owner of the Cosmic Aeroplane collection. I explained to her what they are and the basics of the Golden age. How most if not all of his comics have survived.  With her permission I connected her with the right folks at CGC. I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes by publically disclosing this information. Hopefully by now she given them more information than she gave me as I thought it best to instead of asking her many questions simply connect her with CGC. She seemed reluctant at first but a few days later she agreed to speak with CGC. I told her it would be nice if her uncle got the recognition he deserves for preserving all those comics. She also told me the owner of the bookstore at the time her mom sold the books is still alive and she is friends with him.
His name was William Clark Holt Jr. and he was born in 1915 and left us in 1971. Resided in Salt Lake City Utah. His niece remembered the comics well and said he would go to the store every weekend and buy them. Later on after he stopped buying them they were stored in boxes in a basement until he passed away. Sometime not long after her mother, Uncle Bill's sister, sold them to the Cosmic Aeroplane bookstore in Salt Lake City. She told me he was not an art teacher. He joined the US Navy in March 1941 and was wounded at some point after (FDR looks pretty healthy in that photo so I assume he was wounded at some point prior to 1945 as FDR died in April 45).  He worked as a printer in Salt Lake City.
Thank you Bill. I hope somehow you know your comics are still in good hands.

    Greetings fellow webheads...
Below is the current status of my Ditko CGC 5.0 run.  The run itself is complete (minus cameos which I’m not interested in). I've collected AF15, ASM1-38, ASM Annuals 1-2, ST Annual 2, ST 115 all in CGC 5.0.  39 of the 43 books feature strictly White Pages.  Issues 24, 27, 29 and 35 are OWW pages that I’m keeping as placeholders.  If someone reading this has any of those 4, I'm currently offering my 5.0 OWW copies plus full GPA cash for WP replacements.  Anyway without further adieu...

  25. Thanks
