  1. Wonderful stuff The power of these Boards . . .
  2. Close. I don't think the perceived problem lay with the punters i.e. buyers, but rather with the retailers and distributors. Why take a chance on a "new" title? This goes some way to explaining why some GA titles first issues were things like Marvel Mystery #2. Well, that and the US Postal regulations at the time.
  3. I was debating whether the "Asterix" films would qualify, however since "Tin Tin" and "Dick Tracy and Flash Gordon have got guernseys, why not: "Asterix and Obelisk Take on Caesar" - 1999 "Asterix and Obelisk: Mission Cleopatra" - 2002 "Asterix at the Olympic Games" - 2008 "Asterix and Obelisk: God Save Britannia" - 2012 These are the live action offerings, usually with Gerard Depardieu.
  4. Here's a shout out to a fellow Barks Buff and all around good egg AJD We have a lengthy PM thread going, and a (long) time back I expressed an interest in procuring a WDC&S #239 - the one with the Bill Spicer and Malcolm Willits "in-joke" that has a science fiction author within the main story named as "Spicer Willits" AJD indicated he may be able to help in this quest, and then . . . nothing. I had forgotten all about it - until a package arrived addressed - not to me - but rather "Spicer Willits" at my address. There were two comics in this mailer. Here's the first: What was the other? Strangely, the extensive holdings here at Undercopy Manor do not contain a single example of Walt Kelly's Pogo/Okefenokee Swamp comics. None. AJD saw a need and filled it. Here is my first Pogo, and what a cracker copy it is: Andrew indicated that this was part of a Secret Santa obligation. Nonsense. I was not a participant - not through ill-will or malice, I just don't think it's fair to burden a Boardie with the largeish cost of shipping something all the way to Oz. I am prepared to cop the charge going the other way - I'm accustomed to it - but I just don't like the idea that someone is presented with a large, unexpected shipping bill surprise. Anyway, long story short this is a shout out to a great bloke I've never met. Here's to you, AJD
  5. And now this? Between posting on the Boards, running a Blog and now this Journal you either have fantastic time management skills or are seriously underemployed. Lovely eclectic selection AJD and the scans look great. Nice tease at the end so the casual reader might revisit too
  6. I like it And how appropriate that the story behind Scrooge's first appearance was posted on this here Duck thread - on Christmas Eve. Yes it is here. Just gone 13.00 24.December 2013. So on that note I bid my fellow Poultry Posters the Compliments of the Season. Let's make 2014 even bigger and better.
  7. Great looking copy Bill. (thumbs u I know that Batman #1 is your favorite book, as it is mine, and I'm curious... What is it about this issue that makes it so special to you? As long as I can remember, it has been THE book for me. I mean just saying it out loud "Batman Number One" is amazing. I mean it is BATMAN and it is the #1 issue of his own title. Not to mention it has the first appearance of the most important, and recognizable villain of all time (The Joker) and the most important female villain of all time (Catwoman). I know that Action 1 and Tec 27 are bigger books, but say those titles to a layman and you'll get little, or no, reaction. Say Batman number one to them and they get impressed. I'm not sure if Batman 1 is the reason I love yellow covers with red logos, or my love of yellow covers with red logos makes it even more special to me. But either way I love that combo. If I only had one book in my collection it would be Batman #1. I'd like to add a Tec 27 back to my collection to complement the Bat 1. But the chances of reacquiring one of those anytime soon is pretty slim Ciorac likes this one so much, he actually travels with it, allowing peons like me to gaze in wonder "close up". A very generous fellow.
  8. Normally I have disdain for screen stretchers - but in this case I have forgiveness in my heart. Wonderful, wonderful books. I do love group shots
  9. Thank you 40Yrs - what an interesting read!
  10. What a fantastic effort, scanning and organising this lot As an aside, I bought (and kept) almost all of these back in the day, but I still get a "tingle" seeing them like this. Kudos (thumbs u <--- the good one
  11. Mazl T.V. & Ben Zadrine productions Good stuff BZ (thumbs u
  12. I think it's Zolnerowich. The lips and hands are the clinchers. Nice thread - thanks for sharing. As soon as I saw this I thought Graham Ingles might have had a hand in it - the legs and finely textured hair. He was doing work for Fiction House at the time too. Oh well - my 10c.
  13. First I've heard of this particular brand of Golden Age insanity - and it truly is nutty. Linky-poo Oh, and Welcome To The Boards Sam I'll try to find something to contribute. There were some weird ads in Oz.
  14. Dear MrBedrock, I hate you. Love, Duffman Seriously, this is one of the fantastic advantages of having a bricks and mortar comic book store presence. Folks who have comics (bequeathed, found, whatever) "know nothing", can't be bothered with eBay and just want a trustworthy dealer to take them at a fair price. Congrats
  15. How'd I miss this? Lovely book and I have a soft spot for those anthology comics where the disparate characters (who inhabit quite different "universes" within the book) get to interact on the cover. It's great seeing Dick Tracy ignore Little Orphan Annie
  16. Wow! What a fantastic and rarely seen book. Congratulations Seems to be a little better than a 5.0, though - back cover/internal problems?
  17. Hey! I have one of those as well. Have you read it yet? Pretty good yarn with solid comic book credentials. Now, the one I've got is a slipcased first edition (hardcover,of course) with the accompanying comic book, but mine's not signed. Wish I'd known that there were autographed copies around 25 years ago
  18. That is such a pretty cover. Back cover/internal issues?
  19. I think it would be in the Public Interest if this dealer was named. If he made amends, then (thumbs u If not,
  20. Very nice Andrew. Congratulations on the completion Do you think it would be possible to scan the backs of an Oz issue and a Kiwi one just so we might all more easily differentiate between the two?
  21. Nice books Andrew, great pick ups, blah blah blah This grail of yours interests me though. How can I help?
  22. This got lost in the Chuck Gower love-in and does need addressing. OP, have you PM'd A.Romeo and asked him to confirm the problem's resolution in this thread?
