  1. Thank You I did not know/have not seen this , most enlightening.
  2. You have some very nice books (thumbs u <-- the good one.
  3. The concept of buying food in a place like that, inches away from the sewer gutter, off of the ground, is one I could not embrace It should be noted that pictures cannot convey the, umm, *aroma* that accompanies market places such as these. Now, I have to ask, Flex, can you tell me what the wooden "planks" with metal "prows(?)" are in this pic - some have little hooks, the larger ones do not - Are they coconut "tools?."
  4. Still one of my favourite threads, although my inner philistine was not so much awakened by the existential nature of the statuary, but a rather baser "wow, look at the breasts" kind of thing . You are right about how difficult it is to get to Khajuraho. Nothing thereabouts (other than the temple complex) to recommend either.
  5. Good stuff (thumbs u Reminds me of the temples/carvings at Khajuraho (especially the naughty bits). The Khajuraho carvings haven't been exposed to salt air, though, and are therefore a little better preserved.
  6. Just catching up, but thanks again for a lovely stroll down Memory Lane with regard to Nepal and Tibet. I spent a couple of months in both places in 1992, and your pics of Nepal, especially, dragged memories back to the forebrain. I think it should be pointed out that it is illegal to climb Macchapucchre AT ALL. It's forbidden, because it's sacred. The "Fish Tail" peak is noticeable all over Nepal (not from Kathmandu - get on down to Pokhara) and truly beautiful. Great thread. Keep it up (thumbs u <--- the good one
  7. (thumbs u DC discovered that it wasn't enough to put a gorilla on the cover -- it had to be an intelligent gorilla, human trapped in a gorilla body etc. Missed the other key element: Must Be Purple
  8. This is gorgeous, and than you for the large pic. Krenkel's inks are "other-worldly" (see what I did there ) but can you tell me (because it is very hard to pick up on the pic) how much (if any) white out or "paste ups" are on the OA? I ask because many years ago I saw some early Ditko Spider-Man OA that had/has NONE yet other artists that I really admire have had heaps.
  9. Not so much a comic room as the venue for an intervention,
  10. Yea to the OP- start buying Craigslist collections. Start small selling them here and make a name for yourself. It'll be a ton of work but you have to start somewhere. I've been able to find some good buys on craigslist, but you need a little seed money even for that. Although the op said he was aversed to it, minimum wage would pay far more than flipping books. If it were me, I would not quit my day job, as it were, and do comics on the side. In fact, this is what I and many of us here actually do (although I'm a collector and just sell on the side occasionally). Well, that's a decision that has already been made for the OP, unfortunately.
  11. What a devastating assessment of one academic's work. A withering intellectual dissection. I can only imagine how Menzies must have felt reading this critique. I'm going to also echo other Boardies' comments, Flex, I really look forward to new posts in this thread. Great stuff
  12. Shazza comes through again!! "Unusual" shipping arrangements were accomplished with aplomb. Freebies? Plenty. I do love extra bags and boards as packing. Shortcomings? Well, she still can't grade. So many in the last lot of Jimmy Olsens were way better than the stated grade. Tragic for Sharon. Great for the buyer (thumbs u <--- the good one.
  13. I think you should take more meds - or less. I just know the quality of your posts would have to improve in either case.
  14. I like the Digests, but they are not really a focus - unless they are part of a run. Haven't seen these posted in the thread (none are graded, but IMHO they are high grade). Anyway, Adventure 491-503 Now, the last Adventure (503) of the run is kind of nice - Ross Andru has placed in the cover "border" lots of characters that appeared in the Comic over the years:
  15. Water damaged, extra staple, extra staple holes, writing on cover, chipping all round, pieces out of cover, creases, tan pages (apparently) . . . Upgrade here I come!!
  16. Very nice funny books I look at my copy of FC 282 and
  17. GREAT book. Generally not a lot of love for GA Quality published books, but with art by guys like Reed Crandall and Will Eisner they are pretty good. Interesting issue there Jimbo - December 1941 cover date that has a story about Pearl Harbour being bombed - by the Germans
  18. First up, another quality Australia Day post by AJD. Those Frank Johnson books are truly amazing. Kudos I have never seen many of the books posted - and I've been collecting a long time. I am reluctant to state they are the only copies in existence but they are very rare. The strange thing is that when they do pop up they can often be bought for very, very little. They also turn up in Op Shops and second hand book stores and the like - not often, but it's not unusual.
  19. Three comics have sat in their original packaging for more than 40 years. I'll break them out, send them elsewhere to be encapsulated, and I still won't be able to read them. I will, however, have destroyed any value that the original packaging may have added to the three books. Brilliant.
  20. Wonderful stuff The power of these Boards . . .
