  1. True, it could be British. In fact, the address for the publisher on the back does look British. There was a good amount of stuff going back to at least the '50s that was printed in the UK and distributed in Australia as well. (thumbs u It's British for sure. The thing I cannot figure is that the GCD for this title/publisher has only two issues (of 18) listed. Here's a link to one of the partially indexed "Lassie's" - Number 2. Note that it has the same cover as your #6, just a little different colouring. What I find hard to figure is the earlier book (#2) is priced at 8d. This one (#6) is priced at 6d. 2d less for the later book. One possibility is the page count dropped. I note the #8 has a cover blurb announcing 28pp. Nothing on the earlier one (and GCD is of no use here).
  2. Did John happen to mention if he and his brother knew ahead of time that Barks was going to write them and Willits into a story? WDC&S #249 (June 1961) This is why these Boards are so good. I did not know this until today - and now, of course, I'll have to get a copy. Thanks BZ
  3. Well, it seems that something as simple as "Who and When" gets confused when it comes to funny books. It also seems that given the dates and circumstances outlined here that the "Lemonade" book was not the sole "sign post" that pointed to the Duck artist's identity. Makes me appreciate the early fan efforts a great deal more
  4. I didn't know that. Nor had I seen the first Barks cartoon as far as I recall - must not be in the AR Barks library. So thanks for posting those! Me either although I had seen the cartoons. Is this the book and therefore basis for Malcolm Willits (and the Spicer boys) "discovering" that "The Good Duck Guy" was Carl? If that's so, it ain't exactly Columbo grade detective work, which I find kind of deflating. Oh well . . .
  5. Damn, that looks like fun Wish I was there
  6. Sure, I'd be happy to. Remind me on Friday though I'm getting old Thanks In Advance, William. Let's see, Friday your time is last Saturday plus a week here,so . . .
  7. Great book - I still don't have one Bill, if you see Harley can you ask him if he'll be in Sydney 22 June for Supanova? I am pretty sure he's attending Oz Comic Con in Melbourne 6-7 July but I don't know if he's going to the (earlier) Sydney gig. Why don't I ask him? You know what he's like with comms. Even the Supanova organisers don't know if he'll be there.
  8. Hey, don't hide your light under a bushel. This is a fantastic achievement! Congratulations As is usual at the completion of one run, the ubiquitous query "what's next"? I changed the photos to celebrate a little more. As you should. Well Done!! They are great group shots, so tell me are there doubles or just a matter of "arrangement"?
  9. Jeez Louise - I'm still two books shy of completing "Brother Power, the Geek" Great plans, anyway BB. As a matter of idle curiousity, is the ASM going to be complete, or do you have a "cut-off" number? I stopped at about 450 - though I could easily have said "no" to anything after 350.

  11. Great cover and what seems to be fabulous condition. Please tell me that's a miswrap and not a spine roll - although the rest of the book looks so good I don't know how it could be anything other than a manufacturing defect. Terrific pick up
  12. I've looked and never found that alledged ad in AMAZING STORIES. However, here are a couple of Siegel's listings for SCIENCE FICTION in trade publications. From a 1932 issue of THE EDITOR: ...and from THE AUTHOR & JOURNALIST Every time I see a Siegel piece of prose from this era, I admire how literate he was even at this (early) stage of his career. Couple of questions: Is the business regarding a water glass and silicic acid a specific "in-joke" of the period, or simply Siegel's imaginative way of discouraging additions to the slush pile? and Is the expression "radio the stories back" a slang expression back in the day that just means the item will be mailed back? From the context it was, but I'd love to know what the background of the evolution of the term is/was.
  13. Terrific book, great colour and stories, although the binding, uh, "could be better" - by that I mean be a little careful in handling the book. There is a companion Uncle Scrooge tome that is also fantastic.
  14. A wardrobe? If you didn't have so many great Fiction House books I'd demand your Man Card be revoked. Nice job. Do you do kitchens?
  15. Aaaaaand he's back with some more treasures from The Vault. I love this early "First Fandom" stuff. Thanks again for sharing (thumbs u <---the good one
  16. My, what a lovely book. Of which I was completely unaware I've been waiting ages for you to post this, given you told me you had secured it 21 January. What took you so long?
  17. Very nice books, but it is interesting that the stripes on Cap's shield were not all that consistent - colourwise anyway.
  18. Well, what a long, strange trip it has been. Now, are you in a position to divulge any of the more interesting aspects of its arrival? Unfortunately, this isnt the one that was stolen. This is a different book I picked up. Not as good a grade but a ToS 39 nonetheless . Noted. My stupidity in assuming it was.

  20. Bell Bags sighting!! Great stuff everyone.I'll try to dig out some Antipodean Convention ephemera.
  21. It would have to be a coverless to be an undercopy Sounds good to me!! It'll fit right in with the rest of my drek!!
  22. Very sharp FC 178 William. Underrated key IMHO. As to the FC #9, does this mean I can look forward to your undercopy becoming available shortly ?
  23. I seem to remember seeing this photo in an article about comic conventions in an old monster magazine (Monsters and Heroes? Castle of Frankenstein?). So it might be from the late 1960's, and the kid's in costume for the convention. No clue where the picture is from, but what is the "plastic" thing on the kid's left hand? Something associated with the shield? Some sort of comic protection? It is a water mark "CT" Thank you William.
