  1. Don Rosa is the spitting image of Christopher Lloyd
  2. A very nice copy, AJD, 7.5-8.0 (with a single staple)? Right in my wheelhouse. Now, not to be a Debbie Downer, but I think EVERYTHING is trending to lower levels. It is a great time to be a collector
  3. Now this is the pick of the litter. Truly rare, very strange and even though it's 40 years old the content still provides controversy and debate. I know nothing about it, kind sir, could you please elaborate? Google is your friend. Here's a start.Or here. Essentially, this girl from age 12 appeared at a lot of Science Fiction and Comic Conventions (this is the early seventies) in costumes (Vampirella, Sheena) that were inappropriate for someone that age in a public venue. The standard argument is that parental pressure resulted in these outings and thus this magazine, courtesy Forrest J Ackerman. It is an interesting area, but makes me more than a little uneasy . . .

  5. As good as it ever gets, condition-wise! Thanks Alanna!!! Once again, thanks for keeping this thread alive!! I was VERY happy to see this thread this morning (thumbs u I have become interested in comics from all over the world in the past few years. I have some that I need to get scanned or photographed that I can add to this thread and probably start some others. It comes to mind that I purchased a few Australian Catman comics from my good friend Ricky at Bedrock City this past year in Chicago. I'll post pics when I get them taken. This website is a pretty handy guide to Oz reprints. The Batman #72 would seem to have been (re) printed in May 1956. If you like John Dixon's "Catman", keep a lookout for Paul Wheelahan's "Panther" - a very similar flavour, and like Dixon's Catman an original strip - not a reprint.
  6. I do like a good "beak abuse and Halloween theme" cover. That's in pretty good shape for a 63 year old funny book. Minor key, too - first Uncle Scrooge appearance in WDC&S.

Just got a batch of books from Ed. Pricing? Don't know how he does it. Grading? Pathetic. Woefully undergraded. Packing? Bulletproof. Communications? Won't shut up. Great guy to deal with. Highly recommended. (thumbs u <-- the good one
  8. I hope the prices continue to trend down, for my sake. I can understand the appeal of this book. It's got that "Giant Mouse" thing going for it
  9. :applause:ending on a high note! Beauty (thumbs u Silver, SUPER. You just mentioned you had one issue to go and now your done. What's up next Doc? I have to echo frozentundraguy's SUPER comment. This is not an easy run to complete, though the outlay reflects its unwarranted "B" list status as a title. I have long maintained for DC collectors Lois Lane and her stablemate Jimmy Olsen (in the Silver Age) represent value for money when compared with the big two Supes titles. Again congratulations.
  10. Yes, they were given away in Weeties (Australian version of the tradename) in the early 60s. Try 'Australian Weeties Comics'. Here's one. It seems I might have been wrong about the numbering... Thanks. A little poking around in eBay found this and a sort of related this. How they wound up in Brooklyn will forever remain a mystery.
  11. I know about the Mobil Giveaways , from the 60's, but is there another set tied to breakfast cereal here? I confess I haven't heard of it and Google isn't coming up with anything either. Little help
  12. Congratulations. Did you find finishing a little bitter-sweet? One task accomplished and now the urge to find fresh fields to conquer? I know you've finished a mini-EC title run and you HAVE to be close to rounding off on the War Bonds issues, so what now? I'd appreciate the answer in an open forum. Not that I'd play spoiler or anything I'd like to think other members might "help" in the endeavour
  13. Great book, and an illustration of how quickly that photo passed into the "iconic" realm. I really like the composition too - the lack of background really enhances the power of the image. Terrific acquisition.
  14. I think you'd get a blue label with a note 'Barry Smith written on first page'. Green labels are for unwitnessed cover sigs. Oh, and great book! Mark - I agree with AJD. I think this will get a blue label. Send 'er in! Sure, get it slabbed if you're keen to sell. (thumbs u
  15. I'd be betting it was Kings Comics in Pitt St. Don't think Steve is a poster on these Boards though. Good guy, good stock (by Oz standards) if a little on the pricey side.
  16. A non-pedigree 9.6 from 1953? Unbelievable. Rest of the haul ain't too shabby either.
  17. Wonderful stuff. The legendary "Jack Kirby with ducks" panel . . .
  18. Damn, these are nice books - but this cover really makes me regarding Donald. He wanders through countless panels (and adventures) without pants, but when he (a DUCK remember) goes swimming he dons a "neck to knee" outfit. I just don't get it
  19. Mike, you are one of the most pleasant and knowledgeable contributors here. I agree that this "newly banned" knucklehead has a few issues that they need to work through. I'd also venture that they are of a psychiatric nature. I am sure you'll rise above it. (thumbs u <-- the good one, of course
  20. No no no. Abandon that fruitless quest and send the things to me. I assure you, boundless karma will accrue (thumbs u <-- (the good one)
  21. Now, this is what makes me about these Boards. Andrew (AJD) and I have had a PM thread going for a little while about this and that and recently he showed me a lovely book he'd just acquired for his Barks Uncle Scrooge run. I am also a Barks fan - but pretty much a bottom feeder. AJD also showed me a set of the Gladstone trading cards that he'd manage to get (eBay) and I similarly expressed my appreciation. I have been known to collect a few cards as well ( for Andrew). Yesterday, unannounced and certainly unrequested the following lobbed through the Post. Addressed to the "Undercopy Manor" Now that I have confirmed there will be no follow up invoice, this is what was gifted: (Here are the backs) Bless him. Though now it means my inner OCD will demand I complete the sets . . .
