  1. Nice book, great progress Is it just me, or does anyone else get a little umm "queasy" when it comes to Duck covers that involve them consuming other poultry?
  2. Nice book, Andrew, and as long as you brought the subject up, I'll pose the question: What is the most popular method of determining Far Market Value? Completed eBay sales? GPA (I know it is only for graded books)? Comicspriceguide? *cough* Overstreet *cough*? Or a combination thereof?
  3. Very nice. Plenty of stuff going on in that cover, but what lovely clean lines.
  4. you may have to wait for the paypal outcome and see if the book is returned before you can nominate the buyer if you want, out the buyer anyway and see if he/she shows up here Yes. Please out this person so I don't have to sell to him. I'd like to know as well I didn't realize the reholder fee had been bumped up to $80 a book. Sounds like someone's dipped in the peyote bucket again. I countered him with a $30 refund and he accepted. That should cover a reholder and some shipping assuming it really is damaged. The guy's user name is gecko157 for those of you that care. I guess it is resolved but he is now on my ignore list and I will never have any dealings with him again. So he never PM you pictures of the damage? Since he very new member I would have asked for pictures. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php See highlighted part of the OP's problem. Pics were requested but not forthcoming.
  5. Good Stuff!! Lots of interesting items there, but the one that caught my eye was the "Batman and Robin Society" button. Why? I've got a couple myself Quick question ('cos I am too lazy to do the research) - are all the books on the spinner rack from the same date? I was going to say Welcome To The Boards (thumbs u , but less than ten posts in nearly three years? C'mon - you are just not trying
  6. Amazing R.J.S. I was responding when you posted - please check the link I posted. I can assure you locally printed comics were not $1.10 in Oz in 1973. Did the eBay seller state that this was the case? If so,
  7. Australian reprint from the early 80's Linky . As long as I'm responding, I'd like to ask everyone who is posting these great (and rarely seen) books, could you please give some idea when the reprints were done? It helps me get a better idea as to whether other publishers waited until the books were a hit in the US and then they decided to take the plunge, or whether some of them took a "shot in the dark" punt early on when they saddled up to print the things.
  8. You utter trollop. Nice one Peter - great book! What can I say? I'm *ahem* someone of easy virtue
  9. The Hulk #1 and FFs are Australian. Published by Newton Comics in the late '70s. I've watch on ebay (US & Australia) but don't see may of these listed very often. Not sure how scarce they are though. Nice! I agree that the Aussie Hulk 1 is pretty cool! Trying to find the Aussie Conan 1 seems to be pretty difficult. Maybe a Aussie board member could chime in on rarity of these books? See, here's where collecting comics here is both a blessing and a curse. Newton books are out there. They were pretty successful back in the day and there was even a TV ad for them - pretty impressive for the mid seventies. The problem for collectors of these things is that there are not many who do collect and consequently rarely get listed on eBay. One is far more likely to find copies at second hand book stores, Op Shops and the like rather than on eBay or in a dealer's inventory. This is the two-edged sword. They are hard to find, but when found they are cheap. This is a pretty good site that lists all manner of comics that were reprinted Down Under. The link refers specifically to Newton, but other publishers also get a run. This seems to be a similar situation for a lot of these hard to find books. Small print runs, combined with low number of collectors, combined with what is perceived as a low buyers pool.(which is probably true) It’s a classic problem, how do you get owners of these books to realize that a American buyer is willing to pay in some instances real money for something many think is practically worthless? Communication is the key….. but that starts to get real hard once you get out of the Americas/Westernized countries and into Asia, Central Europe or Africa. I get the small book store thing…. man what I wouldn’t give to go hunting in small used book stores in South Africa searching for the rare Supercomix South African variants… Screw big game…. Id be hunting a different kind of rare animal in Africa. This would be my safari! If anyone knows anything about anywhere these could possibly be purchsed please PM me..... Great site Duff! Bookmarking engaged….. I also have another question? In Australia, when would you say the prevalence of bags and boards hit? The 70’s, 80’s, later? I started using bags in the early seventies, bought from Bobby Bell and imported. At the time they were expensive ($3 per 100 plus shipping ) and I, and everyone I knew who collected, which wasn't many, would only use them on the BEST books - certainly not on local black and white reprints. Boards came along much, much later and cause problems to this day. They, too, have to be imported and because they are so damned heavy the cost is extortionate. Local dealers will charge $25 (that's about $US25 at current exchange rates) per 100 not-that-special boards. So, bagged and boarded new books were rarely offered - and still are not generally available now, except at additional cost. It probably doesn't help that the size on the Newton stuff seems to vary. Most of them I've got fit into GA bags but are taller than GA boards but there are a couple I had to use magazine bags on just because they're wider by just a little bit. Dead right. The sizes of all the comics printed here vary wildly.
  10. First post in this thread, but not my first GA book if you know what I mean. Cross posted in CG, but I'm sure it'll get more lovin' here. Canadian issue - doesn't matter to me, I the cover. From eBay:
  11. It's taken a while, but now that it's here I'll be whoring showing it all over the place:

  14. The others are nice, but these are really great G.L. They have such a terrific "WTH" factor - Luthor's playing a Wurlitzer? Giant Ant Head Don't get me started on Action 303 . . . Silver Age D.C.'s
  15. Great books, Andrew - I really like that the back covers are as interesting as the front.
  16. The covers are great, but the stories are better. Have you read them?
  17. I think it's a vaillant observation regarding distaste for some Don Rosa efforts
  18. Great stuff Andrew!! I agree, the "lil critters" on the 87 are as "cute as the dickens". As for grade, well I think you should consider improvement. All of them. Soon. As an aside, I think the Pogos are calling me once I finish two other runs . . .
  19. Odd thing about this photo. The comic on the stands between the LH kids feet is WDC&S #91. On the ground in front of him is WDC&S #69. There's almost two full years between those issues - which makes me wonder if there's a mix of newstand and the kids' own comics there? No . . .Ducks don't sell. Good catch. Given the two different pics with varying personnel, I'd be plonking for a staged shoot. My 10c.
  20. No, no. Disney material was almost untouched by the restrictions imposed by the MinCulPop (the organism which looked over the press during fascism). They were cut simply because they did not fit the format or the scheduled number of pages. Damn. Here I was hoping that Il Duce had some sort of censorious finger in the pie, so to speak. Shortened versions of the original stories (when reprinted in Australia) also suffered from this, e.g. our version of Four Colour 386 had several panels cut to fit the story into the pages available. I have to add, that your written English is very, very good and embarrasses me no end when I compare and contrast my own poor "other language" skills.
  21. Great book, I want one! If this comic is absent from your collection, you are not a true Steve Ditko fan. A great book, Porc48 Oh, and nice books Greggy - but that's a given
