  1. Very unique item. I've been contemplating a while back for the one that's been on Ebay but didn't snatch it. As I re-called, it didn't have the full reprint of SC22 right? Correct. The GL story is the "Menace of the Runaway Missile" . No "SOS Green Lantern", no "Flaming Spear". It was just awful back in the day. What was the average punter to make of this new character "Green Lantern"? Just springs into existence, fully formed with no back story whatsoever. Very confusing.
  2. Now back to the subject matter . . . Here's a reprint that was issued here in March 1960. Like every other comic that was available here at the time, it's colour covers and black and white interiors. In addition to the SC22 yarn, the book has reprints of Suicide Squad, Buzzy, Fox and the Crow, Tomahawk, Adam Strange, Foley of the Fightin' 5th, Nighthawk and some "mystery" strips. Leafing through the thing, I was reminded how weird publishing here was "back in the day". One of the Nighthawk stories was "A Jailbird named Nighthawk". This was re-lettered to the appropriately English "Gaolbird" - and clumsily at that. Similarly, The story "We Found the Million Dollar Monster" became the "Million Pound" monster. Interestingly, this issue (17) was the first of this longish (80 issue) run. Now, I know this doesn't qualify as full club membership, but perhaps an Associate status?
  3. Every time I see this book, I am a little more motivated to obtain one. Simply gorgeous
  4. In that case it must be very rare. I'll put it at the top of my wantlist. Let me rephrase my answer. I don't think the book exists. If it does, however,a copy can be found in BZ's vaults.
  5. Isn't that a Johnson and Johnson ad on the back. Must be early forties golden age. Johnson Smith Started in Oz? Don't think the book exists. No GCD listing anyway.
  6. A lovely book, Andrew. Took me a while to "get it". Tell me, do you have a list of "War Bond" covers and if so how was it compiled? OSPG, Net, Gerber, combination of all of the above?
  7. Nice book Andrew It seems to have a single (manufactured) staple. Correct or not?
  8. One of my favourites too. Highly recommend a book "The Washing of the Spears: the Rise and Fall of the Zulu Nation" by Don Morris that gives the story of the events that lead up to the Rorke's Drift encounter and its aftermath. I'm green, I say green, with envy.
  9. Bought a boatload of junk from Shazza at the VCC last October. Great packing, selection and who doesn't like freebies? Highest recommendation from me!!!
  10. Fantastic cover that just screams "Steampunk". Great book. I love this cover, the aliens are clearly based on testicles; I love her boot grenades, they whole cover is great.
  11. Fantastic cover that just screams "Steampunk". Great book.
  12. Your point? Go for it Andrew, I've got your back!!
  13. GREAT books BB!! I covet thy Crime Detective #9. This is turning into a pretty good thread, what with the group shots and all. Please keep 'em coming.
  14. Great books, Cimm. I like pre-code crime and will pick it up when I can find it. I'll contribute one of my favourite books that doesn't show up all that often. It's "Crime Does Not Pay" #22 and #24 with a new cover, circa 1944:
  15. Great!! More competition for Duck books Nice books, 3Cs and as to the MS photo editor query, I have never used it but I am betting there is a setting in it that sets the pictures/scans up as if they were in an "Olde Worlde" photo album. It gives them the look of being mounted in an album. I'd hunt around in the program, use the Help function and then when I am totally pissed off with Microshaft I'd Google the question to get an answer I could understand. Quick question for 40yrs (it's an exhibition I'd love to see) - what are the sizes of the originals and are they all oils or some acrylics?
  16. Great effort on your daughter's part How about getting her to do a version of one of Barks' early Money Bin oils?
  17. Great pickups!! Talk about jumping in with both feet. I mean, I am still trying to sneak up on a decent FC 386
  18. Great use of limited space Terrific setup -very neat, though Spidey in front of TOS39 is a little jarring, considering the "shelf" book/bust theme
  19. I love this sort of stuff. Is there any back story to what Goldberg was doing? It's self evident it's an Israeli philatelic issue, but what's the deal with the Stan contribution? Is this the only one he did?
  20. I think I use to like you Andrew. Now I'm not so sure. Great book, regardless of PQ. Just a representative sample or looking for a run? The US dollar is rather weak at the moment
  21. I'm not understanding this. The eBayer (on 20 April 2010) is timelydc and has had that ID since February 2003. It's not tdneely.
  22. hey mate Easy mate, he was waving at my Prove it Tell you what...let's arm wrestle in Darwin over it... Over a couple Darwin stubbies? Done! For those unfamiliar, holds two litres - a little over half a US gallon.
  23. Edit: I just realised the monster has two left hands. Boy, that was some mixed up Dr. No, he's got a right and a left hand, the hand on the left, if twisted up that way would have the thumb pointing to the outside... like it does. I see it now. I know Jack Kirby had a similar problem once . . .
  24. Edit: I just realised the monster has two left hands. Boy, that was some mixed up Dr.
  25. No. Read the thread. He sold the book listed in the Board sales to "an eBay buyer". Didn't say it was listed ON eBay. He contacted some folk who had bought from Frank ON eBay and asked if they'd be interested in the book. One said yes. NO eBay "sale" link. NO "paper trail". NO listing of the book here and on eBay at the same time - for what it's worth.
