  1. Nice one Peter. I've always been confused as to why this is the 'Giant' series when they are the same size as all the other Aussie reprints - i.e. 32 pages including the front cover. (Which meant that the 32 page stories like 'Only a Poor Old Man' had to have a page cut - I don't have that one; what was cut from the Dell issue?) But it turns out that the even earlier ones had 24 pages (I have a few of those now). In terms of quantity the early Aussie reprints left a lot to be desired! Cheers, Andrew Good question, and I had to check. Interestingly, it is not a whole page that was cut - just panels, to wit: From the original, Page 2, panels 7 & 8 were excised (a rat is caught by Scrooge) Page 3, panels 1 through 4 (Scrooge explains the comfort that money gives him and deals with a spider). Page 3 panels 6 & 7 (Scrooge uses a blunderbuss to deal with a moth). So, page 2 loses the rat trap gag and the only panels that survive from page 3 are 5 and 8. This gives a total of 8 panels or one page "edited". What's lost is a bit of exposition, but it does detract a little from setting up the nature of Scrooge's obsessive compulsive disorder.
  2. I was doing a little re-bagging and boarding last night and came across this. As is usual (for me anyway) I'd completely forgotten I had it. For those who came in late, Disney/Dell's were reprinted here from 1946-1974. They were (obviously) printed in low numbers but, surprisingly, the page quality was better than the originals - although the cover stock was simply an extension of the internals. This one was actually the second reprint of FC #386 here - the first was in 1952, this one is from 1958. Here's a link to a useful database of these things.
  3. Wow - awesome collection you guys have put together. Well done! As for the sales thread - just read the guidelines and you'll be fine. Or you could send me a list first... *Elbows AJD aside, raises hand* Ooh ooh, hello there Andrew. My what a lovely bunch of books. Did you say something about undercopies?
  4. Beautiful group shot. Some great books there Andrew. Sorry about your Dad. I know exactly how you feel.
  5. I know the political references are now well obscured, but I am pretty sure Miss Liberty has always held the torch in her right hand. Is there anything left to collect, BZ? What are you still passionate about?
  6. Way to go, Andrew! Have you finished the run yet, and if so, what's next? WDC&S? Respectfully, The person who has benefited so much from your undercopies.
  7. A dozen gap-filling Charltons courtesy of comicguy12901. I love a little Tony Tallarico badness to contrast with a lot of Steve Ditko goodness:
  8. I got a package today with a little pile of some of the nicest Charltons (if there are such beasts) from comicguy12901. Beautifully packed, swiftly despatched and now sitting at my place - a long way from NY. KUDOS to you, Dave.
  9. As usual, Korvac brings the goods. If you ever tire of the 83...... Thanks Bill!! Or if I upgrade......... Really nice looking 4.5. Thanks! Had to grab a copy before the prices go completely Congrats on your very very awesome grab..it does look mighty sweet.. aaaaaaaand coincidentally, with the book I was just about to post, acquired two days ago. Much smaller printing than the original and it was distributed all throughout South America...some survived..this is one of them ..from the summer of 63.. See, this is interesting. The JIM 83 cover on the South American issue is the "unedited" version of the original, as published, JIM 83. Note the number of "Stone Men From Saturn" descending on Thor.
  10. The experience may have been less than sublime, but don't you be dissin' one of the most delightful animated films of the last 20 years. And Jeff - I wish I had those sort of stores anywhere near me.
  11. Now, THAT is a very nice funny book. Damn those squarebounds are hard to find in high grade. Happy New Year (after 17.00 on the 1st here).
  12. A series of which I was blissfully ignorant, and now cannot rest until I have a set. Kirby inked by Willliamson? I am so there. Great book
  13. What a terrific, eclectic haul - would you say that focus is an issue for you?
  14. And you just know their names will be "Adam and Eve". Still a great cover though
  15. Nice books Andrew - anyone who has seen the reprints "in hand" will note that while covers were of a "thin" paper stock, the interiors (all in colour, unlike most other reprints) have a nice white appearance that is very pleasing to the eye. The matter of ham-fisted corrections in reprints is not confined to the Duck books either. I know I have a Black and White World's Finest reprint from the fifties around somewhere that has changed all the Dollar amounts to Pounds (which is usual for books of that period) but also a phone call is coming in for Batman from Melbourne And shame on you Andrew - the switch to decimal currency happened on 14 February 1966, not April.
  16. Congrats on the Flash run What about the Showcases?
  17. Huge Kudos to skypinkblu for the recent VCC package that has just arrived after a long trip. Packaging - first rate. These were about fifty lower grade silver/bronze readers and she even put all of them in new bags and boards, along with the usual outstanding packing (thumbs u Extras? Sure, got some of them too. Communication? She just won't shut up No, really, a very easy transaction that could not have gone more smoothly. Sharon ticks all the dealer boxes as a super person to deal with.
  18. Ooh Yeah - a club that'll have me as a member!! Here is the bad boy - as you can see I love low hanging fruit. Not that there was a huge selection available here when I bought it. Also (for the sheer helluvit) are the other two books in the unholy three. The #30 has what is always referred to as a "subscription crease" but I would argue far more of these creases were incurred as a result of the "fold it double and jam it in the back pocket" experience. I like threads like these - makes me retrieve the books I've had for yonks and actually take another look at them after decades.
  19. Something everyone needs - nice pickup. I still don't have one but I re-read a reprint the other day and was surprised how well the story holds up (thumbs u The panel where the Beagle Boys, hidden in the woods on the edge of the "lake", yell "can we go fishing too?!?!" still makes me laugh. Great yarn.
  20. Thanks for shining a little light in my seemingly bottomless pit of ignorance. I have never seen these before. Now I am going to hunt around and see if I can come up with a picture of the dispensing machine . . . . . .
