  1. Damn. I thought the thing about Gates was a joke. Holy hell a Gutenberg Bible. Wonder if he lets his mistresses look at it
  2. Very hard to say what it'd be worth today. The last sale was in like 1987 for a bit under $6 million. If one came up for sale today I imagine it'd break into the $100M+ range. Imagine if Bezos and Musk both decide they want it these things were printed in the 15th century... they're rare... First book printed on a press! Let's talk some real dang keys
  3. Famous Funnies wouldn't be the most expensive non-hero book? First monthly comic? And I would think the most expensive illustrated book would be either a Gutenberg Bible - if they count - or Shakespeare's first folio. I think the first time his works were collected was in 1523 if memory serves? Don't quote me on that Not sure if those are illustrated enough to count though?
  4. I don't know but I presume so. The actress they cast to play her in the Doctor Strange movie is only 15 which is definitely younger than America had been depicted as in previous iterations. The buzz around issue #3 is interesting. Definitely a new character that is presumably going to be important to America. These sorts of power-flip characters are consistently pretty popular... Captain Marvel and Black Adam... Superman and Zod... or Superman and Bizarro... my personal favorite Darkwing Duck and Negaduck... so I see some potential with the character but my read is that she's being backed by some more powerful character or organization. Maybe whoever is behind America's new origin. Who has been named, btw. I think that person + their org will end up being the Big Bag for this mini but maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I should reread it? Think I'll throw some A+B cover sets up on Ebay tonight and see how they do
  5. If anyone here actually likes to read books this series is pretty fun they're handling the retcon of her origin in an interesting way so far. This is in my pull so I do have 1 copy already. Her sister also cameos in issue #2
  6. My internet has been down all weekend. I'm using my cell phone as a hot spot. I don't stand a chance with the load times I'm dealing with right now which is honestly kind of relaxing E: @SkOw I didn't mean to one-up you there but in all fairness this is probably the only way I could
  7. Out of pure nosiness - you removing the restoration or leaving as-is? And of course you aren't obligated to answer but I think you knew that already

  9. I consider Batman the A-series, which is a little weird I think but that's what the market seems to dictate. It feels wrong to me but c'est la vie. And you can always get $2/issue for NM Batman V1 issues. Usually can with Detective Comics too but it sits for much longer in my experience. Gotta really be a stickler for the grade if you want the books to be highly liquid, even for Batman and ASM which I think are the two most consistently in demand titles of the last couple decades. At least in terms of back issues. And I should further clarify that while I do like some of Vol 2 and 3 for each I'm mostly talking about ASM V1 and Batman V1. But I do get picky with Batman V1 if they really have a lot of it in there. I know all of the minor keys in the 300-500ish range. Part of the reason why I stick to mostly Spider-Man/Batman and the Big 2 is because those are the key issues I have largely memorized. I also don't want to sit there with my phone out so the shop owner gets the idea that they need to look through their dollar bins and reprice everything. Don't want to kill a good honeypot. There are a few characters I consistently spec on - mostly all of the Spiderverse characters - but other than that I'm grabbing ASMs, Batman V1, and stuff that already popped. Inventory management is a huge challenge for comic shops and lots of owners set and forget when it comes to their dollar bins. They'll add new stuff as they get depleted but none of the shops near me seem to ever sort through theirs and pick out the gems. Would take too long.
  10. Wow. Timing isn't right or I'd be all over that. Preemptive congrats to the buyer
  11. I try and split the hair and go for mostly things I could immediately flip for 2x but that I think have long term potential which I don't think is a hard mark to hit in a dollar or 50 cent bin. And any high grade ASM issue must be rescued from dollar and .50 cent bins across the country, IMO. Plenty of Spider-Man that belongs in the dollar bins but never the A series. As far as dollar bin spec I try to stick to heroes that are in at least consistent demand so I can at least move on from the books eventually. With some of the indies demand can really dry up totally once the series concludes and nothing is done with it for years. Even if I have to sell Amazing Spider-Man books at cost I can at least always sell them. Same with Batman. I am way pickier with indies and other Big 2 characters with less consistent demand.
  12. I had someone on Mercari do the same thing to me on a copy of ASM #300... definitely NM+ range for $400. Someone messaged him and offered $500 which was still way under market at the time and I would've gladly matched. Unfortunately he gave me less than 30 minutes to respond and had already canceled and resold the item. I gave him a piece of my mind and messaged him again a week or so later that he still sold the book under market. Hopefully after he already shipped it to the new buyer. Can't do too much about it, don't think it's against policy on either platform unless you do it too often. Just try not to be that guy as a seller I guess E: I had a deal in principle to buy a copy of ASM #1 for $5k this week and it was a copy that looked to be worth $75k+... haven't heard from the seller since he confirmed that he received my contact info so that fell through obviously. Stuff happens! E2: And to more directly address the OP... there are ALWAYS deals on Ebay. I have a couple methods for finding key issues that aren't listed in the listing title or description. Yes, the items that hit for "Amazing Spider-Man #300" aren't going to go for less than market very often but you can find pretty big keys in lots and sellers that don't know how to get picked up in the search algorithm don't always list the individual issues in a lot anywhere. I actually just bought a lot of 150 Daredevil comics around $2 an issue and it has a NM+ copy of DD V2 #10, first cover appearance of Echo. That book is in good enough quality to pay for the whole lot once graded and there are 150+ other high grade issues that I am essentially getting for free. People have been paying $150 for NM+ raw copies of that issue as I got the whole lot for a bit more than that and I let it sit on Ebay for months until I went back for it. There will never be a lack of deals on Ebay you just need to be a little creative to find listings that aren't optimized properly. That's where the deals are.
  13. Great price for that set, nice books too. Excited to check back in later
  14. I would look through your books and go series by series through key collector, then check Ebay's sold listings to figure out the current FMV. Key Collector is great for identifying a lot of what is going to be valuable but their prices lag behind the market so make sure you check Ebay. If you can wait a week or so I'd auction the most valuable books as singles then move the rest as lots. Good luck!

  16. This is the big gamble when you wait for the show to drop vs selling at the announcement or trailer - what if it stinks? I have faith that fans will enjoy most of the MCU stuff even if it isn't critically lauded and I am hoping the HBO half of the HBO Max side starts to lift some of DC's projects but we'll see. Netflix is way more hit and miss with their original stuff so waiting on their drops is a huge gamble IMO. Moreso than Amazon Prime too I think
  17. Finally made it back down to the Very Disorganized Shop in the next town over and made a few long term spec plays. Only made it in about 2 hours before closing so I didn't even get to touch the unsorted longboxes which is where I bet the real gold is hiding. I did okay, lots of books from the last year were just sitting out for cover price so I grabbed... a bunch. I might go back tomorrow for the rest of their Future State Wonder Woman #1's and Wolverine #6's... They also have a bunch of Batman #106 (cover B) and Dark Knights Death Metal #7 (Covers B + C)... probably a bunch of decent to nice DC/Star Wars moderns that I didn't know enough to look for. Anyway Ghost Spider #10 is the first time Gwen names herself Ghost Spider I think. And the other two are the first solo titled as Ghost-Spider. Grabbed a few for cover. IMO if they do bring Spider-Gwen into the MCU way, way down the line it'll be as Ghost-Spider. Or if she gets a spin-off cartoon after Spider-Verse... don't think she'll ever be in anything titled Spider-Gwen on TV or film. ASM #437 is the ToyBiz reprint. Never seen one in great shape and this one is no exception but happy to have it. I've already said how much I love Yara Flora in this thread... that's the 2nd print of her first app. New cover, DC fans seem to like these design variants that DC has been doing. Maybe Yara pops and MAYBE fans care about the 2nd print. Maybe. Hawkeye #7 is the first appearance of Eleanor Bishop, Kate's mom. She's confirmed for the Disney+ show but will she matter? Will fans like her? Hopefully she's the next Agatha Harkness and I can sell these for $40+ each in a month or two, those might pay for the whole trip

  19. Well, what do you think? My dilemma is the same as it has always been - everyone is getting their copy of this book graded. Meaning that polybagged copies, especially high grade polybagged copies like this one are rapidly dwindling in population. Spider-Man #1 (1990) fetches a premium if it's still bagged, though not a big one. With this book, will polybagged versions become the rarest variant once everyone has graded these? Will anyone care? What do y'all fine scholars think? I am also very very tempted by the just-announced Mark Bagley signing. He signs plenty so the opportunity will come around again but... he's one of my very favorite Spidey artists and this is for sure my most valuable Bagley book even if it's not my favorite Bagley cover (ASM #378 if you were wondering) AND I think it has a shot at the 9.8 if I get it pressed and cleaned as well. Should I send this one and start saving my pennies for another polybagged copy of UF4? I feel pretty confident that it'd score a 9.4+ after press and clean and for what I paid for this anything north of a 9.0 would be a major, major win... but once it's unbagged it can never be rebagged...
  20. Single issues can be had pretty cheap still but it's one of the rare sets where they're worth more together than apart. If Kraven is in the next film expect those to jump. I found an Avengers Academy 1 at cover price a week ago along with some Batman V2 keys. The shop I got it from is a total pigsty. Maybe 2 dozen longboxes of unsorted stuff just strewn about next to their alphabetized stacks... I bet there's tons of modern gold in there but I am not super well-versed on moderns. I don't have ASM Annual 1 but I figure the Return of the Sinister Six set from 334-339 might fetch more like $50 or so if the Sinister Six does appear in the MCU. I've picked up a few sets around $10. If it doesn't pan out you can always get $2 an issue for high grade ASM, even the dreck common issues in the mid 300's so I could move them at $12 or $15 in the worst case scenario... Can take a while though
  21. I think it's crazy that it's trading neck and neck with UF4 but whatever, not my money
  22. Didn't look at the slab closely enough. I only have one 1-per-store and it's not a 9.8. I have several very nice blue border copies. Way too lazy to chase the 1-per-store on this and that'll be the case for this year's FCBD too
  23. The market doesn't seem to care about any Naomi previews or any of the Strange Academy previews either. I mean the only characters where 1st appearance anywhere in print seems to matter are TMNT, Miles Morales, and Wolverine. Naomi has a long way to go until her ad being in the back of Young Justice gets that book over $100, her 1st app can be had under $100 right now. Great time to buy in if you're a believer in the character compared to recent months, I'm not familiar with her.
  24. Oh duh sorry I totally misread your question I'm very sorry. I think Young Justice #1 is one of the books with a Naomi preview but there were a bunch of them as I recall... same situation with the Strange Academy previews that were in like 5 or 6 Marvel titles...
