  1. Yeah, the only one I expected to go for higher was God Nose.

I am amazed that the lower grade copy Foo #2 went for that much. I would have guessed it would have fetched about $500, maybe $750.

Again the prices for Hairy Who seem to be out of step with the FUGG. Three lower grade copies bringing in 30% more than the list price of 3 pristine copies. One of the three had a near total spine split. Maybe it was the Sack factor.

Judging by the dust shadow, it looks like that exact copy of Foo #2 was acquired at Heritage for roughly $500 in 2013, which strikes me as a bit low. But, yes, a healthy price this time around at almost five times that.

I guess the rule on books as rare as the Hairy Whos is that, if you want them, buy them when you see them. Still, I think you are right, when it comes to discrepancy with prices in Fogel, the Sack Factor has to be taken into account.

I'd suspect that the Hairy Who documentary out last year might add to the value factor.

  2. Arrived late to the HA of the Sack collection on Friday so missed much of it. Bid on the Death Rattle #2 cover when final warning was called at $1,100 but it ended closing at over $2k. Bid on the unpublished John Thompson cover up to $1k but it went higher. Bid on the Beck Odalesque painting at final warning at $2k, but then it went to $2.6k, that was the one I was really hoping for. So nothing going home with me. Sitting next to a guy who bought a $200k OA piece on one side and another who bought a Frazetta oil painting for a deal of a price of $55k (same guy who bought a bunch of Underground art including the Felch Williams story) makes you feel a bit out of place...

    Nice catalog, though, eh?

Yes, They actually had 3 different catalogs, the main one had some of the Underground stuff included it is also. The Eric Sack catalog and the red one that I don't think had any underground comix in it.

Yeah I ended up with all 3, but the Sack catalog is the keeper to me. The main OA catalog had censored items in it, and the red one is just comic books. I'm unclear as to your point above, though, as I think something is lost in translation or were you just cataloging the catalogs?

Yes, wasn't sure that you got all 3 for the auction or not and was just letting people know if they wanted to pick one up to make sure which one they may be interested in.

  5. Will you be attending in Beverly Hills?

BTW, did you see my shout out to you re FB2 a page or so ago?

I'll try to attend. Anyone else here going?

I did see that and have to pull my comix out from the boxes, which are under other boxes, and just forgot about it with work sorry. When I get around to pulling those issues, I'll check it out. I'm much better with having them in hand when looking over a question. With FB2, there's 3 early prints with rainbow or blue interior covers. They have different ads inside. One has a FB2 ad in the back inside cover, the other 2 has a BA ad in its place. Maybe that helps with your question?

Sort of helps, but I'm more curious about your take on the indicia drop out, or if that's just a singular flaw that's not an obvious 'point'.

But while we're on the subject how does one come to grips with the different ads, and why advertise the book one is holding? BA ad makes sense, FB2 ad, less so....but altered states, and printing while under them cause odd rationale that doesn't compute when one sobers up, perhaps. Thanks in advance for when you do get around to looking!

Won't be making the trip to BH, but will attempt to follow online and perhaps throw out a bid or two....

Mind posting a pic. of the cover and the inside back cover? Probably make things quicker.

I spoke with Todd Hignite today and asked him specifically about the threadspool heads. There are 11 of them in the youtube video but only 3 in this weeks auction. He said they intend to put them in future auctions a few at a time. So it looks like while the entire Eric Sack collection will not be offered in this auction, Heritage is in possession of the entire collection.

Yep. he said there won't be another Sack specific auction but there will be pieces continuing to show up in the UG section of many future auctions. Looks like it's a total divestment of the Sack collection. No doubt he's going to retire in style!!! Lotsa Poppa, to be sure!

Since there isn't any Underground Comix from Sack in the auction, I'd guess he is just letting the original art go. Looks like Sack was looking for a minicomix here just 6 months to a year ago from a post here, so he's probably keeping a really impressive collection of comix for himself.

There are indeed UG comix being sold in the auction, not just OA. Posters and ephemera, too. All that material can be found in the rear section of the auction catalog, and will probably be more spread out in upcoming sales/auctions.

My error then. Looking forward to picking up the catalog and checking out the auction myself.

  9. I think most will like it. Think Contact meets Interstellar meets Tree of Life (or some othe T. Malic movie) with pacing similar to his other movie Enemy. The ending climax is sutle/subdued. No clapping and a pause of silence before everyone got up and quietly left. Not that it was bad, just don't expect Independence Day.

  10. Yeah, I'm looking forward to this one also, the Director has been great with Incendies, Prisoners, Enemy and Sicario. This will be great also, I'm sure. If you haven't seen any of those, add them to your queue already (he sure loves the one word titles).

  11. Watch this trailer (for a different "Arrival") if you want a high cringe level for 2 minutes of your life:

The 90's Charlie Sheen The Arrival wasn't bad, but the sequel must have been as I don't recall it.

  12. Anyone who's seen it:

Wasn't there a car he was passing in the rain on the winding cliff road, that he hits that causes his Lamborghini to fly off the cliff and crash? Why no mention of the other car and the passengers? I thought that was a bit of a hole in the plot. I guess they may have been fine and not hurt, but just odd they didn't mention it. Maybe this was also to show how arrogant the Dr. was by not even asking about the car he hit, how are the people in it or how he caused the accident?

  13. Saw the full trailer before Dr. Strange this afternoon, almost the whole time I was thinking this is ridiculous that they appear to have remade a 4 year old movie. It's Chronicle until they get their costumes. Someone tell me they see it also.

  14. Don't know if this has been posted yet, but if not. There's a mid credit scene and a post credit scene that pertains to the story so you'll want to wait for both, unlike the audience in the theater I saw it where the majority left after the mid credit scene.

Is the book The Doors of Perception by Huxley supposed to be Hilarious?
