A guy not getting hyped up in the current hysteria. Where were Goon 1s in late 2019?

Not sure why he isn't hyped his art/storytelling is amazing.  Still can't believe I found a #1 Avatar at a Coliseum of Comics location about 6 years back.  Was just sitting in the back-issue bin for like $4-no backing board just a bag.  Stuck it in the stack of books, went to counter and the employee paused for one nanosecond when she saw it and just rang it up.  Never have I gotten any stealth find like that in a COC shop before, or ever since.

Anyway, I'd like to own that book. How much I am willing to pay, I am not sure. With moderns and the 9.8 or bust mentality, if the book explodes due to a good movie, I wonder if a 9.4 will move as proportionally given there aren't that many of these? I have #2 in 9.8. funny cover. chainsaw with big bulging eyeballs. who thinks of this stuff?

    Eric Powell does, lol

  3. I also bought the 1st TPB of SIKTC and was not impressed.  That said, I had at least 6-8 in my cart for pre-order at DCBS, and like a lot of other times, my order was already getting too pricey and I start dumping indies especially for whatever reason (no track record etc.?).  Kudos to those that did buy in as even if you don't like the book it is liked by many in the market, speculator or otherwise, as seen by the prices for #1A especially.

I ordered one copy of the High Republic Hans #1 BEFORE FOC with TFAW. It still hadn't shipped last month (released in Dec). They said their copies were damaged and were waiting for replacements. How long do you think they keep hot books at the warehouse? Not 5 months.

I wouldn't hold my breath on ever getting that.  Diamond still has damage replacement copies of that book waiting to be shipped to retailers?  No fng way

  5. I'm in the same boat with #1 2nd prints from TFAW.  I swore them off for years but recently have been using them more over DCBS as they send me nicer books consistently.  But anyhow, I ordered 10 copies of 2nd print before FOC and my next order is being processed now with 0 shipping in my quantity for that book.  They have done this with other books I have ordered only to put them in the next order, but I don't think this will happen since the book came out like 3 weeks ago now.  Being that Boom ordered 100K from the printer pre-FOC there is no way I shouldn't at least get a few or half my order.  I have held off on messaging them as I know what wildly_fanciful_statement response I will probably get.  I also have 10 of the 3rd prints on order with M&M to hedge my bets....probably won't see a single copy of that either.

  6.

    Batman/Fortnite!?!

I literally figured absolutely no one was going to care about this book and ordered 0.  MM comics had great bundle deals and I just figured it would be super over-ordered or like I said first, no one would care.  You can't ever figure out this market!

Thank you! I don't think I would have been able to intuit all that. I imagine you also scan with the spine away from the hinge or closer to where the clamshell opens?

doesn't matter which way it is oriented on the bed as far as the removal.  Still, always use something to slide under the spine side to lift the book gently.  If you don't you risk trying to grab the book straight from the bed with your hand and you could cause a cover rumple/indents/edge bend etc.  Again, with higher priced moderns especially Marvel books with their rice paper thin covers, trying to take book in and out by grabbing without something to prop it up first, or just sliding it over the edge, is going to cause damage that I can guarantee.  I sweat a little every time I'm handling 9.6+ raw moderns with higher values as I have damaged some books in my day even using these techniques.  At the end of the day it is a learning process, and mistakes probably will happen.

  8. Just a heads up on this one as it seems no one ordered this book for whatever reason.  Even those without Diamond accounts should have their copies by now depending on who they order from and the shipping frequency they choose:

That's going to be borderline impossible to estimate in bulk. There are, of course, a few key-ish things in that range, but it's also sort of the value pit era of modern comics. Newsstand printings are... probably worth more, especially in high grade, but the market is much more niche. Auctioning a scarce and potentially valuable book could roll snake eyes if there aren't newsstand collectors chasing it at that exact time.

Selling this as bulk is almost certainly to underperform. Huge bulk lots do not yield FMV on Ebay; they go for huge bulk lot prices (and shipping is brutal). Often, I'd recommend MCS for 15 long boxes but they don't generally break out newsstands for more aggressive pricing. I'd be inclined to put in the labor to determine which books have value and handle them separately then consider Ebay or something for the remaining content as bulk newsstand filler, I think.

    This^

Spawn even early issues now in high grade newsstands sell much higher than direct editions.  I would BIN only as auctions are too much of a gamble on who is looking at the right time of the auction, then you get pennies on the dollar for something.  Truthfully, even some borderline drek in a CGC 9.8 Newsstand might be pretty good returns in this market.

    Thanks.

Bit surprised, I thought this book was pretty bad when it came out.  Alas, quality isn't typically the measuring stick.

Funny, I thought the book was pretty good myself.  A good little detour from Superhero books for me when it was coming out.  The eye of the beholder.

Where did this come from?  Implies a DVD?

I saw one the other day.   Has a great Lee InHyuk cover.

Really caught me off-guard as I'd never heard about it.

Bummer is the store put the sticker right on the front.

Value?  I don't really sell any sold, but plenty are asking between $20-30.

Flipping thru it, it reprints the entire UXM 141/142 story.

Not sure but that seller drewbizz has just about every variant to every comic ever made in that store it seems.

I'm just surprised there are no first prints on ebay for sale. Maybe I'm not looking right. This book was a $9.99 book though so...

so the 1st print from the information I saw about this tpb on a Youtube (accurate?) video is this-the 2nd print according to the indicia came out before the 1st print as it was a print error in the indicia.  The 2nd print is the 1st print, the 1st print is actually the 2nd print, and the rest of the prints are accurate.  Here is a link to a listed 2nd print copy, which if the info I saw is correct, is the 1st true print:

So I read above and I have been to our your shops in your areas once or twice. I would agree about your large shops.  CoC is way overpriced and they use Graham cracker Comics website to price from as well because I saw them doing it one day when I was here looking which I found strange. I did find a few books, but there wall books were a good 25/40% over what I might pay on ebay I couldn't believe it.

I did however find 2 complete sets 1st prints and several signed Stabbity Bunny TPB/sets at one your smaller shops in that area a few years back right before Stabbity got hot.

I also remember a very odd comic shop in a run down mall there that was also a bar and something else it was huge. But it had a large back stock hidden in the back they let me go thru and I found a ton of good books with fair prices. So while I agree with you on CoC I found a couple of small shops that I did very well one back then.(Maybe 5 years ago or so.)

A Comic Shop is the one with the bar in the old run down strip mall next to Full Sail University.  Funny, I did not know they kept any back stock to go through in the back you said?  They deal in new comics only and even when I used to go there quite often and talked with the clerks, they never told me they had backstock even though they knew I'm a spender. I've been to the small shop I think your talking about with Stabbity Bunny.  It is in the Winter Garden/Claremont area which is where the creators of that book are from.  I had seen it during my travels when working a pool job that took me to that area often and I stopped in one day to check it out.  I too grabbed some Stabbity books of which I just sold one of the #1's just the other week.  I believe they were new books only for the most part with very little if any back issues.  I can't remember really.  So there are some smaller shops here and there, but many have little to no back issues and most are quite a drive from where I am in Maitland. Sucks to drive an hour in any direction to come up totally flat.

  14. BCW, but everything is constantly on back-order right now.  If you spend $200+ shipping is free, which is worth it as the shipping is the killer from these sites.  Before the pandemic you only had to spend $90+ I believe to get the free shipping.  If you are looking to put in a decent sized order I would go with them as I think BCW's quality and tolerances are way better than Ultra Pro etc.

First time posting in this thread, and I hope I don't bring up something that's already been discussed to death, but I had to say something about Marvel Previews 95. Since at least last summer, this book had been routinely selling for $300 raw, being marketed by Ebay sellers as the first image of Miles Morales. I jumped in and sold mine for $300 because I figured people would eventually lose interest in that book and switch back to Ultimate Fallout 4 as Miles's first appearance. But looking at recent sold listings of Marvel Previews 95, there have been sales of RAW copies this month that sold for over $3000. A CGC 9.6 sold for $8000. Obviously, I should've waited, but I don't think I've ever seen a book like this (that hardly anybody even acknowledges) go on a tear like this. I really don't know how I feel about it. It seems crazy to me. But could this be a trend that lasts? I ask that question simply because of the obscene amounts people have paid for this book within the last month.

Yep, it's obscene.  I wish I had a couple right now for sure, though.

@gradejunkyHave you tried BAMF in Maitland? I find my experience there better than ACME and Coliseum frequently.

I left them out as I was just summing up the main comic outlets around here.  Yes, I have gone to BAMF many times and gotten some decent finds there, but not much as the back issue section is pretty small as you already know.  I actually live about a 10 min drive from there.  Cool shop and owners for sure.
