Nice little hole-filler for Jim's collection

    Wait just a minute...... OFF-WHITE pages! :o

no, no, can't have that. NM.

Don't worry about it, Jim choice-1.gif , it's okay that Casey has one and you don't. It doesn't really matter.

Hey Sand, just remember, the people you pass on the way up are the same people you pass on the way down.

Will just go about acquiring my books quietly :shy:

  4. Hey there fellow Mutant lovers!

Here is a recent pick-up from Ebay.... I paid more than I really wanted to, but I was losing sleep over the gaping hole that was my #24 spot and the good ones seem kind of hard to find and.... and.... :insane:

Only 4 more to go??? May the come cheaply our way soon :wishluck:

  5. Fellow X-Fans...

I bought this on the Sunday night Heritage auction. As much as I hate to (1) buy raw books (2) pay the buyer's premium, I just had to have this book.

Heritage graded it 9.4 . If it is, then I'm extremely happy about the price I paid. Does anyone have any experience to know how accurate Heritage usually is?

All Heritage books are restored...i'll but that one for $5 :baiting:

  6. Personally...

It would be a shame to such great sets be broken up and sold off. I can just see it now.... "from the Dr Watson or MutantKeys (insert another name of your choosing) collection". I will not say pedigree because of the uproar which would ensue from making such a claim, but i don't see why a collection that was purchased from various sources second hand cannot be considered the same as an original owner collection. You had a greater chance of being able to collect a mint copy of x-men #1 from the rack than you do today of finding let alone purchasing the same copy. Plus trying to find those issues that are worthy enough to be included are harder today (in my opinion) than they were back then.

Yes I know that there are a lot more avenues for finding that one elusive issue, but that doesn't make it any easier at times. That's the one thing good about our hobby, we can have nice heated arguments but still remember the ties that bind us...a love for those madcap, misunderstood, merry marvel mutants (and no i do not have to pay a residual fee to Stan Lee)

  7. An interesting thought for those who are closing in on completing their runs after having filled the gaps or upgraded them to the pint you are happy with...what happens next?

I've been thinking about it since i am getting to the point of completing my run (slowly but surely) and considering what to do next. Upgrading will be next on the list and i still collect the current issues as they arrive. Will the thought be to keep collecting 9.8's or the best available grade of each issue even past the registry sets listed.

A nice dream would be to bring together a collection of the best graded copies of each issue...even though the cost would be amazing to say the least.

What plans have you thought of once you complete your runs?

  8. Do you plan on venturing into the world of HG copper?

I do own a few HG copper. I especially like J. Michael Straczynski 's Amazing Spider-man. I also have some MacFarlane Spidey's.

I don't know if they are any good as an investment, but I like them and they are affordable. :gossip:

How about you, Danny. What direction will you go in after you complete your Bronze / Copper run?

After I finish my run I need to start paying off my CCs :insane:

Sounds like s perfect person for the organ black market...you don't need two kidneys :kidaround:

  9. My pockets arent as deep as Caseys so im staying away from SA until I can afford it

    :sorry:

That would be dependant upon if you are collecting to make the best possible run or if you are collecting to complete the run.

If i remember correctly it was Rhonda who asked the question about what grades were you willing to accept for issues.

I tend to get the impression that the majority of us x-menites are a combination of both wanting to collect a series that we've enjoyed over the years but at the same time collecting the best (we can afford). It would make no difference if the complete run was in NM or in VG, just the thought of having a complete set would be impressive.

  10. Actually here's a question for all you wondrous yanks...what's the usual going rate to post a raw comic within the states?

Am just trying to work out what would be the best way to get some comics slabbed...cost wise.

My actual shipping costs for lower value books.

$1.97 for a single comic book (7oz), $2.93 for 3 books (11oz), $3.41 for 4 books (13oz).. This was first class mail, bagged, boarded in a large envelope within a sandwich of two pieces of cardboard.

For high value books, I would go with Priority Mail boxes. The boxes are free at the post office, BTW.

1 pound is $4.60 (probably up to 4 books?)

2 pounds is $4.60 to $7.50 depending on distance.

    CG

    I am now quite envious....

So working on a theory...cost to send to and from CGC postage would be around $50 from aussie land

cost to buy and plead for the dealer to send to cgc on my behalf maybe $30 hm

  11. You would have alot more comics if shipping to you was cheaper doh!

Mate, with all the cost in postage, i could have bought a plane ticket to the states twice over and picked them up directly over the years :censored::censored:

That's why i say Thank god Harley Yee makes the trip down under each year...allows me to pick up books a little cheaper (well barely)

They shouldn't charge you so much for shipping down under. After all, it's downhill all the way. Can't they just coast?

    CG

lollol if only that were true
