Here are my latest acquisitions. All come from our esteemed collegue mr_highgrade.
Thank you, Juan!
With these books, I've finally broken into the top 10 for 1-66. One of my goals for the year.
CG
Well done CG onwards and upwards
(Better watch out casey, she'll be breathing down your neck shortly)

A recent pick up:
Wow nice pickup

FFB what a great report.
This is the side of the hobby that i enjoy hearing/reading about, the stories that come from those who actually lived through those eras. Where the iconic characters we see today, were viewed much like how the new modern characters are viewed today.
It is a shame no one has gone around to all those great artist & writers to collect their stories/memories so that we all can see how these books have evolved.
Much appreciation from the land down under
I enjoyed this lunch very much and loved the stories.
I am planing more lunches with other living golden age artist who don't attend conventions. I was considering Jack Davis next.
Please do!!
I'm not the greatest collector of GA but i appreciate what they started

TrollNow there's a nice cover

Thanks, CG. I had completed it before but I'm always in the process of finding upgrades as long as I can afford it.
For some reason, the 6 and 18 are shown as missing in your registry page. Perhaps because the system is in the process of switching in the new books.
In any case, beautiful books.

Very very nice books...just means i'll have to pick up that number 70 before you start oggling it!!
Actually i've found 2 70 9.6 and Oakland copies to boot...if you are interested
On Doug's site? They are very nice books. I might have to wait though. I just laid out over $4k at the Con so I'm tapped for now.
One on Doug's and one at another site...

Just some little x-men from the Don Rosa collection...
-
I finally started my golden age collection this past week. For my first, I went with a Raboy war cover and a pedigree to boot. One down, many more to go ...
Congratulations Joe! Welcome to the fold!
... get out while you can

I think calling it a Fine is about right. PCE used to have their own grading system where 4.0 was a Fine.
Ed
ell a fine looking copy it is for sure

First Blob
Now that is a very nice copy indeed . I always get the impression that comics of that grade should look umm worse

yearh i was in on the 35 as well, but agree the bidding went ballistic. Same goes for the 8 in 9.4 which reached a pretty high price as well. Price on the 40 was decent, just above last GPA, but still good because prices on the warehouse copies have been ever declining down to the point where they are almost undervalued now.
Yes and i think it was that #40 that made you leap frog me, you bugger!!
If you are talking about the registry then dont worry... i might soon take it out of my sig line to leave space for a more thorough Wantlist...if it makes you feel better i cheated and put in the X-men 1 even though it is cracked.. in defense i have a couple of books that are not available in the registry due to scarcity of slabbed copies but i think would be worth some points if they were...
btw wait till i receive this one so i can read the registry number and i will leap further
Yes i saw you post that one in the GA thread, i was totally impressed by it ... i just wish they had the ability to add other "non set" ones as i have some top listed Holiday comics from the "D" pedigree.

My only X-men pick-up in the recent CL auction... i was in for a couple of others but spent my money on GA instead
Decent price on that too.
I only bid on one book in that auction - the #35 in 9.2 . The bidding went WAY higher than what I was expecting at $575. My bid was well under that.
Does it seem like higher grade SA X-Men books are getting really high prices lately?
CycleGirl
Totally agree with you. It's like trying to find something before others and praying no one else sees it.

Seems like a while since we've seen a new book on this thread.
I bought this at C'Link.
-
I must thank cyclegirl for the great #17 and #51
Another 2 crossed off the list!!
-
Well, I did it. I released control of X-Men 58 (8.0ish) for signing. I bought the book from Pirate, at a price I consider a steal, right here on the forums.
The book is going to NY Comicon and will eventually return to me slabbed in a SS Holder with the following sigs:
Stan Lee (creator/editor)
Roy Thomas (writer)
Neal Adams (artist)
I have to say I'm really excited about this. I know I won't see the book for a few months (the Whiz Comics 70 I submitted back in December still isn't back yet,) but I'm already picturing this little bit of SS goodness.
Not a bad start to my SS collection.

just a hop skip and a jump away from 35

Though seriously, thanks a whole bunch for those 2 issues
That looks like an x-men 17 and 51 to me! Both great books, what condition are they in?
From memory 8.0 or 8.5..so me be qquite happy

It's hard to follow those two issues but the post office held a package containing a nice x-men #20 in 9.0 (no scan as of yet) bought from a forum member.
Another issue ticked off the list

Sheesh..she is so demanding
Moi?
Before i answer...have you sent those 2 x-men yet?
Look, here is Wolvie in the X-Jet getting ready on Tuesday morning. I told him, to fly west and south until he saw a whole lot of kangaroos. Then land and give you the X-Signal on the X-Phone.
So yes! It went out Monday or Tuesday!
CycleGirl
LMAO no no i just wanted to make sure before i answered to say how demanding you were they weren't being held as blackmail material, oh great one
