  1. Ok thanks , the small micro ones very close to the spine confused me
  2. So in looking at the spine and trying to purchase comics online I am able to spot the spine "ticks" that break color of varying sizes . What has been hearder is I have received books that have "dents" of varying sizes by the spine . I have seen 9.8 books with very small "dents " . Can bigger dents be pressed out of the book ? Meaning dents that dont break color . Sometimes they are very close to the spine and they are varying sizes and often hard to spot or impossible to spot just from pictures . Thank You
  3. Ok this should be interesting hopefully i can reply to this with a "the grade is in " post , thanks to everyone
  4. Yes not sure how the cover can present so nicely and the back cover can be so bad and wrinkled
  5. Book is firmly attached to staples except for 2 pages are not attached to the bottom staple but firmly attached to the top . How much does the 2 pages not attached to the bottom staple detract from the grade ? Also would a clean and press help this book ? Thank You
  6. also how to do this effectively without damaging book , just manual pressure or a solvent of some sort which I guess could damage the book and make it look like it was restored
  7. So the whiteout was scraped off completely right? Yes this was my idea , scrape off the white out to return the book to a non restored condition then submit for grading .
  8. The key issue here seems to be the USPS insurance , I mean if a customer pays for insurance for a specific amount of money , legally this should be cut and dry if a package is lost or damaged and current market value is proven which it is relatively easy to do . I mean this would be very cut and dry in a legal setting in my opinion , is it just that people are not pressing it and taking them to court?
  9. Was considering using CFP pressing got a recommendation from someone that they do a good job but have not reached out to them about specifics . I think they drop off the books at CGC which cuts one step out of this .
  10. Yes having a hard time being patient , the 6 month turnaround time makes it difficult with pressing and submission , if it was like 2-3 months ....
  11. These are all good ideas , I guess just because I send them with insurance and registered doesnt mean the presser will . Its unfortunate that USPS gives people such a hard time , I mean if one pays for insurance they deserve to get reimbursed for the value of the insurance . It seems a no brainer , all the insured packages that they dont lose make them more than enough money to pay the insured claims Im sure .
  12. Yes trying to discipline myself a bit as opposed to going all in haha
  13. Thanks for all the replies , I have some threads to read
  14. There is a book I am considering purchasing that has white out on the cover , i asked the seller and he said it was a date on the cover that someone covered with white out . My guess is this will grade as restored ? It looks also like there is a bit of white out by the spine too but not sure based on pictures . Will this grade as a restored book and could I remove the whiteout ? If i did manage to remove the whiteout would the book grade as restored still? Thanks
  15. So this will be my first time mailing books , Im considering mailing around 20-25 , estimated values of at least 2000 -5000 , this is a significant amount of money for me compared to how much money I have , (virtually zero savings ) . Was going to mail to a pressing company and then they would be forwarded to cgc . Is there anything I can do to minimize the risks? Do you recommend paying for insurance and if say something happened to them would the us postal service reimburse me for the acual estimated value which could be pretty substantial ? Any General recomendations? Thank You
  16. Hi , Yes I dont know what a bindery perforation is , no inside pages are torn , I have found some 9.6 slabbed books on ebay for sale with 1 or two similar tears in the same spots or close to same spots
  17. Yes guessing using chemicals is kind of blurring the lines between cleaning and restoration? or at least strong ones
  18. ahhhh no kidding ok thanks , was considering purchasing this book too , this is good to know .
  19. Gotcha , yes I don't own the book , trying to learn about grading in general, thanks this helps
  20. Yes but trying to determine specifically how much the stains would effect the grade hence the 9.8 assumption just for a grading lesson . Have an idea about how certain flaws effect the grade of a book but dont have any clue about how much stains like this would effect it .
