There will be a premium for that page. I have no idea how long it will take, or what the dollar premium will be. Perhaps you will be the one that answers this question for us all. Nice problem to have.
As far as the centerfold goes, I think it would normally go for about $5k at auction. But that would be to a collector just for sake for owning the centerfold. For the person looking to complete a book, it would be worth more. This is likely why the seller is not putting the centerfold up for auction. He wants (your) premium dollar. Good luck

I don't know that it would reach more than $5k at an auction, but...
There's a coverless, centerfold missing Sup 1 on sale by My Comic Shop for about $40k, and that one clearly shows the back page ad version "On sale June 2", and not the later printings depicting "on sale now"
An otherwise complete coverless Sup 1 sold for $55k about 2 years ago. Who knows how the values of the 2 different back page variants will play out in the future.

In terms of underrated, here is something. Captain Marvel 1 was a Simon and Kirby product during their Captain America work in 1941. Strike that up to moonlighting to make some extra bucks without Timely knowing about it. The front cover is CC Beck but what I forgot is the back cover is by Kirby which are random panels from the interior. GCD pointed out something I never heard before. One of the stories features monsters from Saturn. Here is what GCD says about that and here is the thunder god page.
"Thor Precursor. Shazam referred to as “Thunder God” and fights Aliens from Saturn. This motif used when Kirby co-created Thor in Journey Into Mystery (Marvel, 1952 series) #83 with Thunder God fighting Aliens from Saturn as per Comic Book Historians article researched by Alex Grand."

I rarely go for bronze or copper age collectibles, but this is one I wanted to pursue. I understand the glamour of ASM 129, but for me the ultimate moment in the Punisher storyline is the execution of his family. It's not in ASM 129, and you can't see it from the encapsulation of an entire comic. So I paged out MP2, and I'm able to display these 2 fantastic collectibles.

It’s a rogue piece from a different page, but regardless its source, the eye appeal is adversely affected. So that, plus the other problems with the page, are too much for me
What I see is a chance to own one of the best pages, from one of the best Golden Age comic books, with the first image of perhaps the finest villain in the history of comics, in rare supply, for a bargain price.

Looks like there's a piece of page 3 (?) attached to the back of the page. Not sure this is a problem. Other than some tears, I fear I may be missing the problem you are asking about.

The new crown jewel of my collection. The first image of Batman. Predates Detective 27 by 6 days. Also by default, the first time Superman and Batman are seen on the same page.

One of my keepers is brittle. I would think this would be a problem if you were keeping a raw book with intention of leafing through it. Most of the time with a graded book, brittle pages will be on a lower grade, encased in an envelope, then encapsulated, without intention of it being further handled. Not a problem for me.

I'd like to bump this thread. As a fairly new collector, I found it fascinating. I learned a lot. One of my takeaways from reading the entire thread is the focus on individual images and pages from these comics. I'm new to comic collecting, but I'm not new to investing. Seems to me that the greatest percentage increase moving forward is collecting the individual pages that represent these first images or sentinel moments in a character's storyline. I don't disparage any form of collecting that makes people happy. It just makes less sense to pay a high amount for a midgrade key book, rather than spending less money on the pages that one can actually see the images that make the comic or character special.

Perhaps… *perhaps* a clue that Detective #48 came before Batman #4: there is an ad in Detective #48 for Batman #4. It states that Batman #4 goes on sale January 13 (1941). I don’t know how far in advance Detective #48 would be available before its February cover date. I don’t know if there is an ad in Batman #4 for a Detective Comics issue. I can’t tell from the story lines in either comic which would have preceded the other. Does anyone have any more definitive evidence to settle this debate?

Hello all. Please help settle an issue for all us that like to collect “firsts”. The problem is there seems to be conflicting information about when the term “Gotham City” is first used. Here are pics of CGC slabs claiming the first mention of Gotham City in both Batman #4 and Detective #48. Note that the cover date for Batman #4 is Winter 1940 (ambiguous), and for Detective #48 it’s February 1941.

Superman 1 Centerfold and Info Requested
in Golden Age Comic Books

A restored 7.0 Sup 1 recently went for $66k. A few years ago a restored 3.5 went for $45.6k.
If you are doing this for "money", are you sure all this is worth pursuing? What restored grade do you ultimately think you'll get?
