  1. Posted a thread in "Ask CGC" but didn't really get an answer one way or the other. Has anyone sent in an old card with subgrades? Did silvering affect the grade on edges or surface greatly? PSA tends to ignore it as it's a manufacturing thing found on a lot of cards from those sets. The shearing action opposed to cutting caused a lot of chipping/blowout on the edge of the card. As an example I have some other ones that are near pack fresh that I pulled and sleeved 20+ years ago but have silvering on 2-3 sides and I'm hesitant to send them in due to not knowing if they make the distinction between wear and poor manufacturing. If so, how bad did they ding you on the grade? If anyone has gotten some graded and can give their input it would be wonderful, thanks!
  2. I'm not looking for anything specific to this card. Just an overall generalized answer. Is it considered a manufacturer defect? PSA tends to over look this as almost any card from those sets have a tremendous amount of blowout on the border due to cutting the cards with dull blades during manufacturing. When the card is graded is there a distinction made between ones that are worn vs ones that just have bad blowout from poor manufacturing? It's a well known issue, but I wasn't sure if it was acknowledge as such in the grading.
  3. Jungle and fossil sets typically have a lot compared to other sets straight from the pack. How much does it affect grade?
  4. I feel you, it's weird how the market goes. I sent some Handcuts to SGC because they will give it a numerical grade. PSA will only label authentic if it doesn't have the entire border regardless of how good everything else is. mess was probably cut by 8 year olds 60 years ago. Thousands of dollars can depend on how skilled they were with scissors and following the outside of the line??? 🙄 Vintage goes to SGC, Modern to PSA for me. Can't wait for CSG for my personal collection. Not trying to get any money out of the grading so it should be decent turn around but still get them encapsulated.
  5. Legit in terms of grade. Too many people see their grades as inconsistent and all over the map. Will a 10 be an actual 10, or an 8. I think it was on net54 someone tried them and got a ten on a card with a 1/16-32" of the corner bent. It was pretty easy to see without much effort. Could have been reddit I saw it not net54 but there are other cases like that I've seen as well where there's no way a card was a 10.
  6. Don't think anyone has ever considered GMA legit for anything other than a glorified top loader. Simply never considered them due to that, at least in baseball card realm. Resale value is non-existent.
  7. CGC seems to grade pretty hard. Which personally I like because you know exactly what you're getting. I've seen some wild mess from BGS especially when it gets below like an 8.5(7s that look like 5) Most of the cards I sent in on last submission are .5 lower than what I was thinking they would be. In hindsight should've got sub grades on some bit oh well. The cases are clearer, and cleaner. Better eye appeal. Grading is tough. Both positives to me but the sell prices on some aren't as high. Can't figure out if people don't trust CGC as much because they're newer or what. After this round of cards came back, it instilled faith in me as to their competence in grading accurately. Sell prices just don't seem to be there. Any thoughts as to why?
  8. Thanks, I was looking at the most recent one from bumping mems up. It's in the original $25 subscription email.
  9. PC restarted and closed that browser page. Where can I go to view it again and redeem it? Don't see it under account. 😞 Bought a few I want to get graded and figured its a good opportunity to use it.
  10. Mine haven't hit 30 days yet but judging from others it will be over the estimate. Going to assume 30 days isn't happening. Pretty much in the same boat, if I'd known it would be delayed I wouldve bumped some of the ones I wanted back faster up a tier or two. Rather unfortunate.
  11. Great news, have a lot of '60-'63 cards I want encapsulated for PC. Been waiting on that since I saw it was a thing.
  12. Has there ever been a consideration of taking the PSA approach and billing at time of service instead upfront? Especially on bulk/economy orders, that ties up a lot of money for a long time. It greatly stymies the ability to send in a lot of cards, and creates this guessing game of trying to get the heavens to align with shipping, turnaround time, and everything in between.
  13. Think he's asking if they have a minimum grade requirement like PSA. If it's under the requested grade, it's not encapsulated and sent back raw.
  14. Don't mean to be so person_without_enough_empathyy, but need I to rely on turnaround times to be somewhat accurate. Display maximum turnaround instead of minimum. Dropped $800 on 2 day, still hasn't been shipped back to me. Got a generic email with "times aren't guaranteed". The entire concept of paying more is to get it done faster? Going on 4 days, 3 if closed new years eve. At this point feel like I got suckered. Can we get accurate turn around times so I'm not blowing chunks of money? Bulk or Economy being a little late is one thing as the value is significantly lower, but when you're shoveling money into a premium service and it isnt being completed its frustrating. If I didn't need it as fast as possible I would go 10 day and save myself the money. Making it impossible to time submissions so that one gives me a few days to sell to fund the next round as it arrives at your location. Going to have to fund the next submission out of pocket since it arrived at your location today and my others are so delayed. Information such as the turnaround times accuracy is paramount to some of us. Thanks. To give an example of where I'm coming from. It's less about it being 3-4 days, and more about the inaccurate times and the up front billing. I'll have 4 total submissions in at once, with all of the money going one way. Having 4 outstanding orders at one time is a big hit to the pocket. If the orders weren't billed until graded it would help tremendously so that it wasn't so much out of pocket and the faster service cards could be paid for and sold before the others finished. I understand that billing is different between each business as SGC bills upfront as well. I'm simply not made out of money, have close to a thousand+ cards I'm trying to have graded and need the communication and reliability to come up with the best possible plan to get this done. Literally as soon as I post this, it changes and is finished. Point remains the same though. Not getting accurate turn around times is frustrating. Also, one of the Kabutops I sent in was Spanish, but when I view grades it says they're both English 🤔
  15. Shadowless gyarados, zapdos, 1sted Dark Charizard could pull some good money too. I would tbh.
  16. I took that to mean they were only closed new years day, not eve as well.
  17. That's pretty much what I was shooting for. A few of them are for PC(4 or 5), but most were going up for sell. Trying to get some extra money in my pocket. Instead just wasted a bunch. Lol, I remember when there was something going on with chicken earlier in the year and I went to a Wendy's and they didn't have any. Weird being told that.
  18. It was marked as "received" around noon on 29th, then scheduled for grading. Sat in "grading/quality control" for two days 30th/31st. I was operating under the assumption it would be mailed off on the second day. Shouldn't be a specific time for overnight, just after a certain time that day isn't counted as one of the days. So I would've thought it would get mailed today and it would make it to me by Sat/Sun. Still says "Grading/Quality Control". Unfortunately, I'll have to take off work early one day I suppose to go pick them up as I don't get off early enough to make it to the pick up point. More money down the drain. I was looking today thinking at some point it would hit the "finalized" stage. Thought I must be tripping balls and looked at walkthrough time and it says 3 days. Honestly not sure if it was 3 day when I sent them, but I want to say it wasn't, otherwise I feel like I would've known there was no way. If it takes more than 16 business hours they shouldn't list it as two days. Not my problem if they get a lot of extra submissions. They should limit the submissions, or whatever they have to do or hire more people. If it was my bad then sure, I'm an illiterate person_having_a_hard_time_understanding_my_point. I really feel like it said 2 days though. Like I'm almost positive. Whenever I saw it last, it was recently and said 2. My thing is this, if it said two days and wasn't done in two days that's an issue. I'm a plumber by profession(my full time job) with my own small handyman/remodel business. They base their prices in service days, 50/2, 10/30, etc. Not completing it in the timeframe is the equivalent of me going out on a Saturday, giving the person a higher price for it being the weekend and having them pay me up front. After they pay, I say, "Hey, I'm actually busy today I'll get to it tomorrow, but since I have your money I'll just charge you the same and get to it when I feel like it. F you, see you whenever."
  19. 17 cards at that price was close to $800, with overnight both ways. Could've done 10 day to get it next weekend. Work all week so don't have time to fool with them/pick them up on the weekdays from the drop off place. Would have saved me a tremendous amount of money. Now it'll land on some random day of the week when I won't be home. Was pointless paying a premium price and could have saved a lot of money. Wrecked myself if it said 3 days and I misread.
  20. I could have sworn it said 2 day when I completed submission. Overnighted to CGC thinking 2 day turn around and was marked received on 29th with FedEx overnight selected to get it back by the weekend. Am I crazy or did it just change? Doesn't look like it'll get shipped out by today and I just wasted a ton of money trying to get a turnaround by Sat/Sun. Don't know if I can't read, or it just updated to 3. If it did I need a swift kick to the nuts for bad math.
  21. Personally I like criticism as long as it's constructive. I always like to know why a customer chose me or why they would consider to do so. I'd rather have their money flow into my pocket again, instead of someone else's. You're always going to have to filter through the obvious nonsense but a lot of time there is good info to support what you're doing well or let you know you can improve in an area. Impossible to make everyone happy, but there's always room for improving one's own methods. In this instance it looks like we may have been mislead by another post. Honestly person_without_enough_empathying about time increase isn't helpful. I'm guilty of that. I'm not sure any of us know enough of their daily operations to complain about a specific area of the process. It should give them insight as to how people will feel about longer turn around times. In a post he said they were hiring so it sounds like they're already attempting to address the issue. As with most things, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
  22. Thank God. I've been sweating bullets for days. After dumping money on a bulk submission and currently trying to stagger submissions to constantly have them coming back to sell and fund further submissions I thought I was going to in some deep doo if it was 60 day turn around on the initial ones. I'm glad you clarified this. Maybe I can sleep again at night 😂
  23. Don't get me wrong, 60 days is an inconvenience and definitely part of it. Price to time, they still beat others but I'm sure they will get up there with the big three soon. I meant more in terms of I would just drop more money to get 20 days or whatever if I had known going in. 30 days for $8 was great. 60 days for $8 still good. There were some cards I'm trying to get faster turn arounds on, and If I had know I was 60 days out I would've either paid more or sold raw. 30ish day was an acceptable timeframe for them. 60 isn't going to work so well. Mine have been in "received" for two weeks. I agree on that front as well. Just feels like a slap in the face to an extent. Some people might not like the longer turnaround at all, but for me personally I just needed it done somewhere near the original schedule, even something like 35-40 days would've been alright but 60+ I kind of needed to know before hand.
