  1. For those in the UK, Forbidden Planet have an omnibus sale on.

A few cool books in there, £35 for McFarlanes Spider-Man ain’t too bad! It may not be the best written story but the large format lends itself so well to that nostalgic art.

I also see they’ve got the Taschen Avengers library Vol 1 up for pre order now too.

A sick detail that I was recently alerted to:

During the Smallville fight, when the man falls out of the helicopter and Superman (gasp!) saves him, the production team has Superman do a full front flip to try mitigating the force from the Army guy falling and Supes moving him at-speed. Of course, this isn't entirely realistic, but the fact that they put this detail in that shot is amazing to me.

It’s such a great scene in terms of unleashing their capabilities. That ‘super’ level style of fighting is what needs to come back in a sequel (hopefully)…

  3. Decided to get back on a few titles after hitting the store a few weeks back.

Picked up Flashpoint Beyond 0 and 1, liking it so far. I miss Geoff johns on DC books.

Worlds Finest 1 and 2 were both great, some wacky action packed fun. And the art is top notch.

I read JL75 too based on the Dark Crisis hype, an event I’ll give a chance but I’d have to say that this death of the justice league issue was just as the reviews suggested. Underwhelming for such a premise. Shame this wasn’t more of a drawn out storyline that built up some intrigue.

Those are essential volumes, and I love them, but it drives me absolutely bug batty the way the changed the spine dress halfway through the run. HOM V3 is coming, I so it'll make things look even more lopsided, assuming they keep the dress of the second volumes.

Still, nitpick aside, yes, terrific and necessary books. When there's a new one I generally save it for the fall, for some spooky seasonal reading.

That sort of change is pretty drastic, not even just a font thing like some of the Marvel ones, just a completely new look!

Makes you wonder why. Is the person responsible for vol 2 even aware what vol 1 looks like…?

  5. The new 2022 version of the Death and Return of Superman omnibus has finally shipped, looking forward to that turning up.

Next on my list for June is Absolute Doomsday Clock, I really enjoyed that and wish that DC had maintained some of that rebirth/button momentum. Felt like a lot of good stories were coming together until DC practically dropped it all.

Also considering Absolute Multiversity but never read it before. I do enjoy some Grant Morrison madness though.

Then there’s another giant bad boy Taschen book coming, the Avengers library. Definitely getting this after the quality of the Spider-Man edition last year.

What do you all think the impending Flash movie will have on the prices of Silver Age Flash? I think it got moved back again to 2023.

I would think some of the related keys will definitely spike closer to the time and will end up being called out on the hot lists you see every time a new film trailer comes out.

I still love that DC books are affordable so I’d personally prefer things to stay as they are!

The only immediate issue I found with it was that I felt it 100% could have done without any Joker references at the end - it's okay to let the audience get excited naturally for more, we don't need to be spoon-fed the next possible in universe development. Let the film marinate in our minds, letting imagination go wild with possibilities of future villains at this point.

Agreed, that was one of the things I would of preferred to see dropped. A hint of his existence without seeing/hearing him would of been enough, then leave it be until maybe another film or 2 goes by.

  8. I know I've slipped into bad habits recently when watching new films at home. For The Batman I wanted to see it the old fashioned way and went to the cinema and absolutely loved it.

I totally get some of the criticism highlighted about the running time etc but I felt like I really got into the style of the film, the slow burn, the great Giacchino score running through it and the idea this was still a Batman in development (career wise).

The sound when the Batmobile fired up was deafening, it was amazing! That whole chase just gave me a big grin as it was so absurdly loud. Pattinson was a good Batman too, I enjoyed his approach of just tanking his way through places when he needed to and it was nice to see that close relationship with the GCPD (for good or bad) that hasn't been seen much on film.

I would certainly change a few things but overall this was a great DC film.

  9. It's disappointing that it's become so problematic, not just with Miller himself but with all the delays etc that have plagued the overall production. The film was the opportunity to open up some cool possibilities but it's hard to tell anymore.

Who knows, maybe the next teaser will offer more about what this film is trying to do. And hopefully Miller can sort himself out, for his own good as well as the franchise. If that means him stepping away then so be it. I admit I liked him in ZSJL though so was looking forward to this.

Even thinking about that scene, the music in my head gives me chills down my spine. lol

Really love the score for ZSJL.

I’ll be gutted not to hear the MOS theme again somewhere, swelling up as he finally confronts Darkseid face to face.

News of any kind of follow up to JL has gone awfully quiet recently. Starting to doubt Cavill or Darkseid will ever be back at all.

  11. I’m in a modern Green Lantern hit at the moment. Started with the absolute version of Blackest Night (a gift) and now working back to pick up Absolute Rebirth and Sinestro Corps War.

Great story, great art and feels like a time when DC had a grip on what was happening across the brand.
