DeMatteis was a very good Spider-Man writer.  The Clone storyline polarises opinion, as does Ben Reilly as a character.

Still, everything seems to be going through the roof these days. Something else out of reach soon.

DeMatteis is the only reason I'll give this one a chance. I admit I enjoyed the original clone saga storyline for the most part, it has more than enough flaws but his issues were always the strongest.

At least he can join in the laughter now.

Always good to see when those involved don't take things too seriously. As bad as that film may have been received it still ends up having a place within the franchise for what it was at the time, I'm sure a lot of kids thought it was great! (As a big Arnie fan I still find it a guilty pleasure for a laugh)

Seems to be a lot of positives coming from the Flash camp with these little snippets. Fingers crossed for a cool spot at DC Fandom this month.

  3. I'm not necessarily blown away by the covers I've seen so far for Hulk and Venom's new series. I'm interested in reading them though so will grab one regardless.

If they are anything like the previous runs then the price jump will occur on issues other than #1. At some point in the first 10 there's usually a reveal of a new character or villain that might command a premium in another year or so.

  4. For those receiving their slabs back in recent months, is it pretty common for the inner well to be loose?

Most slab purchases I have made recently have got it but I'm not sure if that's down to bad shipping/handling that is causing it to dislodge.

If you have it, please share. I'll google it to see what I can find.

    Edit: http://benreillytribute.x10host.com/LifeofReilly1.html maybe this?

Yep that's the one, it's a long read and goes into detail on the storyline but the tidbits along the way from the guys involved are great if you're a fan of that era of Spidey.

Particularly when it gets further in and they openly admit that no one could see a way out of the storyline!

It started out okay, but after a while it began to feel as if the writers were winging it, just making it up as they were going along, and a bit of a rambling, drawn-out bore in the end.

Reading it in monthlies over a very long period can feel a bit different to reading a long Saga in its entirety, integrated in a collected format, such as the aforementioned omnibus.

There's a brilliant article online called 'The Life of Reilly,' a full history of how the story to came to be and what happened along the way between all the creators involved. Must of been a fun/crazy time to work in the spider office department back then.

I recently read the Clone Saga Omnibus's because I liked the old Gwen Stacy clone storline. The Clone Saga isn't all bad. There were some good stories buried in there, and I liked Ben Reilly. But when the powers that be at Marvel decreed that Peter Parker had to remain as the real Spidey, the writers dug themselves out of a hole in the most unimaginable way,by bringing back Norman Osborn and making him a mastermind so clever that he could even fake Aunt May's death. He was behind every jot and tittile(tee hee) of the plan to destroy Parker. And bringing back Norman, whose death was one of the most impactful in comics history, just for a cheap stunt sucked. I'm glad I dropped Spidey in the early nineties.

For people who love the Silver Bronze and Copper eras, it isn't recognizable as the same character or book anymore.

The clone sage omnibus's are great, that story was my first entry into Spidey back in the 90's. I dropped off ASM a while back and only hear bad things about the current run, however will give it another go with the new Beyond storyline coming with Ben back in the role.

I tend to keep my reading pile under control as I drop in and out of titles these days so only pick up a few here and there. I don't feel the need to collect modern runs in the same way I'll focus on an early ASM run for example.

  8. With the FF coming to the MCU I think it keeps FF48 and 49 in the speculation frenzy mix for a while yet. It makes more sense to me that all the price drops are going to come from those books with a random villain appearance or small character that turned up for an MCU show and then it passes.

I love the fact we have all these films to enjoy but it does panic me when I hear of a new trailer or announcement such as '6 more films slated to come out in 2023' or whatever. The collector in me realises that my want list is going to very quickly fall into the spec pile and disappear out of reach...

Found a nice copy, the last Heritage copy had ink lines on the rear and the one previous auction to that had a large amount of spine tics on the front cover.

Happy with slight miss wrap at the top for a low census number.

Lovely to see in such high grade. Always had a soft spot for all things clone related, this one is a must!

  10. My subscription to NOW TV (the service here in the UK that currently streams ZSJL) is due to end and as I'm not renewing then it's time to go out and get me one of these sets.

I'd love it if someday the film got an IMAX release here, there are so many scenes I'd love to see in all of it's huge glory at maximum sound.

JL theatrical cut was on TV recently and I watched a few bits of it whilst flicking channels. The differences are so glaringly bad I still shake my head in disbelief that it became the version they released. Even thinking about the fact that the re-shoots went to all that effort of re-creating the sets/costumes etc from almost every scene just to add in a terrible one liner or pointless moment. (:

  11. I actually really don't like dust jackets, I get the reasons for them but I've found pretty much every hardcover/Omni that I own look much better without them. I just can't bring myself to keep them that way just in case it ruins them!

Couple of good DC's coming soon that I'm looking forward to picking up. The Fourth World Absolute Vol 2 has a great design to compliment Vol 1 and I was glad to read there is another edition of the Death and Return of Superman Omni on the way next year, I missed the 3rd print release and didn't want to pay the crazy secondary market price.

ASM 11 and 12 were about the same price in mid grade for a long time. Now 11 has left 12 behind with mid grade sales over $700 on eBay. Perhaps either the 9.0 sale has raised all tides, or people are priced out of #3. In this age of keys on fire, 2nd appearances are starting to have their day.

Funny how it was always the case of 1st appearance or nothing when it came to characters and their keys. Wish I’d picked up an ASM 11 earlier as I’ve always loved that cover, never really considered that it was a second appearance issue.

This was best copy I could hope to get . I traded about 30K Canadian in books for it and I think any hope of a higher grade cleaner copy was never happening . That ship sailed a while ago  . Most of the comics I gave up were all fantastic in their own right , high grade but modern stuff I felt I could let go of to get a grail . In the end it was fair to me and the seller imo .

    I’m happy .

Brilliant copy, and what a great display to place it with. Those Mcfarlane pictures look so cool.

  14. Having watched this again recently you can tell how much effort he put into this when he came back to complete it in full. And sales in the UK seem to have been good so hopefully it does well over in the US too. It's such a double edged sword when as a fan you want to see it do well but then you think about all the underserving profit that WB execs make from something they didn't even want!

  15. Not as exciting a line up as the first one last year. I'll tune in to it as there are some projects there I'm interested in, however it breaks my heart a little without any of the DCEU JL trinity present.

I know they want to move away from that but what a shame there isn't the flagship team up there. I suppose you could argue it sort of is with the variations they have present instead. It just doesn't come across as grand as it should.
