This Thor arc isn't that good anyway.

Yeah you’re probably right, time to flog #1 - #20 for a quick buck.
Seems a rinse and repeat scenario for any donny cates series that gets going. It happened with Venom and now Hulk too, just buy the first few issues and you know there’s going to be a new bad guy in there somewhere.

Yes!!! Very Gary comics is great! Bought some low grade avengers from them at nycc last year, great guys!

I’ve always thought it would be nice to be able to buy from these guys at a con or something, but being in the UK means that’s not happening. I need to find better cons here as it’s hard to find dealers to trust and want to spend big with for a key.

I have to also second @Blankedboy's suggestion of Nocterra - this was one of my most enjoyed titles for 2021. I think the first arc is out in trade now.

Nocterra wasn’t too bad, new volume has just started now.

I do find it insanely annoying though when new stuff gets hyped so quick that the current and next issue suddenly spikes before you have a chance to get it. It’s happening again with Thor just now after #20 got the new villain treatment and suddenly #21 is a £10 book to get hold of. Nonsense! Just means I’ll have to drop the title now as I’m not paying that to keep up with the story.

I thought the Snyder Batman run along with Animal Man and Swamp Thing were the only real bright spots to that mistake.

Snyder run was really good. I didn’t think the New 52 was the worst thing overall, I quite enjoyed the excitement of the re boot at the time, they really went all in for a while at least.

I’ve not felt that about any reboot attempt since, and when it comes to Batman this current era will likely just be remembered for its over use of the character.

But yeah 50s and 60s are probably the hardest to re read now without skipping most of the pages… No denying the covers are still fun though!

  5. Romita Jnr is awesome. I agree not all his recent work is great, I wasn’t a massive fan of his run with DC, but his 90s work is one of the things that drew me in to Marvel comics. I love his rendition of Venom for example.

In the ‘back from cgc thread’ there is a recent post of his ASM new way to die covers, I just love that style of Spidey.

  6. Watched this in 2 parts now that it’s on Disney plus, it’s definitely near the bottom of the MCU rankings but I’m interested to see how and when they mix up the characters with others from the MCU. It should throw up some opportunities to bring out more in the characters.

  7. Almost a year since this came out. Hype was huge 12 months ago now, with that little glimmer of hope there may be more to follow some day…. I guess that’s pretty much been sidelined now.

I’m sure it will get some online attention on its anniversary in March at which point I think I’ll treat myself to another watch. I love this film, and I hated the theatrical version. Which only makes it more significant to me to see how a film done as it was meant to can be so astoundingly different to a studio version.

This is a great series of points.  His vulnerability is the thing that makes him unique as a crime fighter.  Anyone with decent fighting skills could put on an armored suit and go out and beat people up.

Sometimes, Hollywood feels as though it has to look for technology-based or other "rational" solutions to help a general audience suspend its disbelief about how these characters survive the incredible beatings, explosions, drive-by shootings and etc.  They did this with the Green Goblin in "Spider-Man" and the "Rhino" from "Amazing Spider-Man 2."  Armored costume and big, clunky, slow machine rather than a guy in a form-fitting outfit, protected only by his wit, weapons, advanced strength and so on.  For me, those changes are a real turn-off.

I thought they came close with the suit in BvS, that was a fantastic cloth looking suit with battle damage wear all over it.

The new suit does at least allow for full movement of the head.

  9. Hard to know what to believe but whatever it’s going to be, this film is shaping up to be important for DC.

I’d love for them to get a few hits this year. No matter what anyone says you can never count out anyone making a comeback later down the line. Wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if Snyder ends up doing another DC film in the future for example. It’s all just a big loop after all!

Please tell me this isn't a spoilery scene from No Way Home. That'd be a real move to post such a thing so soon to the general populace, unspoilered, if so. If it's from a trailer, fine. Otherwise, what the heck?

    Pretty sure that’s a scene from Spider-Man 2 (2004)

As you can see, there is still some (well, more than some) clutter, but I making progress weekend by weekend.

    Top Shelf: Amazing Spider-Man #1 - #400 with Annuals.
Shelf below the top shelf: Fantastic Four #1 - #300 and Daredevil #1 - #200, both with Annuals.
    Second shelf below the top shelf: The few Golden Age issues I have, Atom #1 - #45 (Missing #25, 26, 37,42, 43), Brave and the Bold #1 - #24 (all reader copies), Hawkman #1 - #27 plus Mystery in Space #87 (Missing Hawkman #21, 25 and Mystery in Space #88 - #90, and Metal Men #1 - #56 plus Showcase #37 - #40.

Before anyone mentions it, I know that the Stephen King novels are not in alphabetical or chronological order. That's one of the many things I still have to do. I also need to get rid of 100+ CDs.

All accessible to browse and enjoy at any time! I’ve never seen collections stored that way but I think I love it…

My family is asking me what I want for Christmas, and frankly, I'm stumped.  Yes, it's such a first world problem.  I thought perhaps this community could help me out.

In the 70's and 80's I read a lot of silver and bronze Marvels.

Here are some of my favorites. Do any of these storylines exists in a super-deluxe version or artist edition, with high quality art reproduction and maybe some behind-the-scenes type content?

    - Kree-Skrull war

    - The imposter Captain America story from Cap 154-157.

    - The original Starlin Thanos/Captain Marvel saga.

    - The original Starlin Warlock saga.

    - FF 48-50

    - The original Deathlok storyline in Astonishing Tales

    - The Dark Phoenix saga

    - Days of Future Past

But please don't limit your responses to those I listed.  What are some really cool, high quality new presentations of classic Marvel storylines that I (or anybody reading this thread) may like as a primo holiday gift?

Must haves:  What I have in mind 1) Must offer complete storylines that can be read, not just a collection of pages (sorry, Romita Spider-man Artifact Edition) and 2) Must offer something beyond simply reprinting the stories.  Bonus content, background, scanned from the original art, something that goes beyond what's available in a standard TPB or Marvel Tales reprint.

    Thanks in advance!

I’ve found some really nice (but expensive) looking Spider-Man prints online.
Have a search for ‘Folio Society marvel’ and you can see some beautiful looking collected editions.

I also noticed a print by ‘Taschen’ on its way in the new year, a fantastic looking print of the early silver age Spideys.

It sounds like they may make more so some of those stories you highlight could come along.
