  1. ......waaay to near to silveracre for my liking It IS Silveracre. Darryl has set up a grading company. So it's going to be fair and impartial. Exactly, for anyone who thought PGX was bad...... they ain't seen nothing yet. And the problem is the 'uneducated' Brits and Europeans will see this as an option to save postage costs and use the service. Silveracre for all its faults (and there are MANY) has a strong customer base and they will be blinkered by this "new service". The website is poorly constructed and the T&C means the company is not liable for any mistakes on restoration and/or signatures, they just grade (or rather guess). Which is completely unlike CGC, right? That's what I was thinking. Yes, they've made it right in the past (in certain situations), but CGC has never 100% guaranteed that either. Read the T&C on the back of the old labels. This is true but then CGC never had such a huge conflict of interest. EGC/Silveracre are now in a position where they could slab one of their own books to sell, deliberately ignore restoration and then claim that they never guaranteed that they could spot it anyway if they got caught. I realise that you're just pointing out the similarities between the terms and conditions of the two companies but the conflict of interest puts the consequences of those T&C's in a whole other ball game.

  4. Magneto's been one of my favourite characters for years. Apart from the great cover, the story that ran through this issue and # 275 is one of my favourite all time Magneto stories.
  5. A customer of mine gets his bound by a bindery in Leeds called Hollingworth & Moss.
  6. I never said NM. I wrote NM/MT, NM is 9.4 and NM/MT is 9.8. That's a big difference. Again, it doesn't matter to me since I shipped you NM/MT books. You said the books were 9.8's or better. While I wouldn't dispute that they may have been when you sent them, they aren't now. If they really were 9.8's as you described then they've got damaged during shipping and the postal service is liable. Theo is unable to claim for compensation from them so it's down to you to refund (or come to a mutual solution with Theo) and claim for damages yourself. That's a basic for anyone selling online. You escalated the whole thing by blatantly accusing him of dishonesty. His suggestion that they possibly might not have been 9.8's originally was not blatantly accusing you of dishonesty. It's not uncommon for someone to miss defects when selling so an assurance that they were as described and must have been damaged in transit could've saved things turning confrontational rather than insisting that he was trying to scam you.
  7. This. It is always the sellers responsibility to ensure that the comics get to the seller in the condition they were advertised as. If the items were damaged during the postage process then it's down to the seller to refund and claim back from the postal service.
  8. I can provide a reference that my experience selling to Comicshrine has been nothing but positive and I've never got any impression that he is anything but completely honest. Accusing him of switching out copies is a hell of an accusation to level, especially when all he had to gain was better copies of three blanks.
  9. Just had another deal with Dan, bought a couple of slabs and all was great as always. Very fast international shipping and the packaging was excellent. I'm always happy to deal with Dan and looking forward to the next time. Superb seller.
  10. Good lord, figure this out. CEOs don't care about "racial pressure", political correctness or whatever... the thing that makes them make executive edicts is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. (and if you hear one saying that a decision is being made in response to racial pressure, its only if they also know it will make them money) Last year on tv, one of the biggest booms was Empire, and it showed decision makers at the studios that there is an underserved audience. So you know what every executive is saying this year? "We need an Empire" or "Empire made good bank, lets get more black people on our show to try and get some of that audience, and thus increase our share, which then increases our ad revenue, which increases my bonus!" Why is Marvel increasing the prominence of female characters? Is it just bending to the PC police? Nope. Its marketing consultants telling the COO that theres a huge untapped market of female readers (just as empire tapped into underserved black viewers), who are more likely to respond to female lead characters, and thus we get an emphasis, or an evening of emphasis between the male and female characters THIS. It is just unfortunate they can not come up with something new and original instead of destroying and re-inventing what already exists. They do that to draw attention to a new character and to appeal to the existing following and they hardly destroy what already exists. They just temporarily reinvent it which isn't a bad thing if a character or concept has gotten stale. One example is the Superior Spider Man. Many fans were in uproar that Peter had died (they must've been bloody naive to buy into that anyway) and there were endless cries of how it would be terrible and they would never pick up another Spider Man comic again. The upshot of it was that it was commonly regarded as some of the most interesting Spidey stories for some time and a short while later, the old status quo was restored. Marvel has recently tried a Red Wolf series which by all accounts is a fairly decent comic but isn't selling well at all. I bet if they'd put Red Wolf in a Daredevil costume and called the comic Daredevil, I bet they'd have had a lot more people giving it a try.
  11. The question is, are the movies bringing in new readers? Can we say yes to that? Not so sure Not new readers, but new fans. What`s more important? 70,000 people reading Avengers or Avengers doing over 1 billion at the box office? 60,000 people reading Snyder`s Batman or 4 million people buying the Batman video game about Arkham Asylum? 20,000 readers reading Green Arrow or millions watching Arrow? Marvel and DC are now entertainment companies first, than comic book companies second. The game has changed and there is no going back. Yes, but we're talking about readership here. Are movies bringing in new readers? I don't think so. ygogolak seems to think the movies are bringing in new readers, despite low print runs. I don't know how much it is counteracting an existing drop in readership but the movies are definitely bringing in significant numbers of new readers. A large amount of the people I'm selling comics to are new entrants into the hobby that have followed in from movie or television adaptations.
  12. Check out Rucka's run for a female Punisher. It was actually quite good.
  13. This one's fun, they've put the X Men Apocalypse trailer to clips from the 90's X Men cartoon. http://www.comicbookresources.com/article/fan-trailer-brings-x-men-apocalypses-gravitas-to-90s-cartoon
  14. Arch has really dropped the ball with indexing "end is nigh" threads. Waitaminute, did the end happen and we didn't realise it?
  15. I recently bought a bunch of books from Claudio and he was great to deal with. Hope to do so again in the future. Thanks Claudio. (thumbs u
  16. Bought a high grade early Silver Age book from Chay and it was a flawless transaction. Hope to deal with this excellent seller again in the future.
  17. Whether Domino's first appearance was in NM # 98 is a whole other argument. The thing that makes no sense to me from any perspective is that CGC label # 11 as the first appearance of the "real" Domino when it's not the first appearance of any Domino.
  18. I posted in the Ask CGC forum a few weeks ago regarding which issue is the first appearance of the real Domino. That forum is fully moderated so my post disapeared into the mists of the Internet, never to be seen again so I decided to put it out here for discussion. As most people know, the Domino who first appeared in New Mutants # 98 was actually a shapeshifter known as Copycat. We didn't know that in X Force # 8 which was a flashback issue which substantially featured Domino from an earlier point in time when it was really her, she had dialogue and appeared on the cover. However, it was revealed that the current Domino was an imposter at the end of X Force # 11 which then showed the real Domino in a cameo in the last panel. It seems completely weird to me that this issue is the one that CGC notes as her first appearance. Firstly, it's not her first appearance as she appeared in # 8 in about ten different pages, I believe as well as the cover. I don't see why it should matter that it was in flashback, vit was still an appearance. Secondly, # 11 only features a brief cameo anyway so it shouldn't be a first full appearance, even if it did get cpassed as a first appearance. What is the general consensus on this?
  19. Hi, not sure if this has been raised before but in the notes for X Force (1st series) # 11, it is listed as the first appearance of the "real" Domino (fairly understandably as it is revealed that the current person posing as Domino is a fake). However the "real" Domino first appears in X Force # 8, she has a cover appearance, appears in ten interior pages and has dialogue. I realise that these scenes are in a long flashback sequence but it IS the first appearance of that character instead of # 11 and in my opinion should be listed as such.
  20. Bought a Tomb of Dracula # 10 off of Bobby and and he was great to deal with. Very helpful and sent a cool freebie along with it. I wouldn't hesitate to deal with him again. (thumbs u Thanks mate.
  21. It had been quite a while since I'd purchased from Steve and I was pleased to find that he's still the same class act that he was years ago. Super fast delivery of an excellent book. (thumbs u
  22. Bought a slabbed GS X Men and I couldn't have asked for a better seller. Excellent communication, helpful with shipping options and great secure packaging. Top notch seller. (thumbs u
  23. In genuine honesty, comics aren't something that I'd recommend for a long term investment. There is no way to know what the market will be like by then. The whole back issue trade could've died down to nothing.
  24. Just got three of Tom's superb JIM slabs through the post. Packaged so well that international shipping from him is no more worrying than eating an egg sandwich. I can't remember how many times I've dealt with Tom, both buying and selling but there is no person here that I would rather deal with. Thanks Tom. (thumbs u
