  1. Trimming is difficult to spot and anyone that remembers CGC erring on the side of caution after the Ewert scandal and wrongly classifying some books as trimmed that were not, should not be surprised at these events. My feeling after reading the initial thread was exactly this. That CGC had found one key book with an unequivical color touch and made an error in determining that the companion key book was also "restored" with a trim. I almost bought the restored J.I.M. #83 myself from Spider-Dan's recent thread I was so confident it could come back clean on a re-sub, but it's the ethical questions we are now debating that made me pass for the sake of a few thousand profit. After the first thread CGC had graded this book correctly once and incorrectly once. If anything they have potentially now improved on those stats, by getting it right twice (blue label) and wrong once (purple label). The more troubling parts of this are the timing of the recent submission, with someone trying to game the system, and the nature of the thorough review that CGC gave the book in the purple holder.
  2. Simple $10.95 and a GPA subscription will show you most of the CGC grades especially below CGC 8.0 has absolutely been going up the past 10 years. I am not sure why you don't understand that TMNT #1 is mega book for what ever reason that is. Not many people wouldn't agree that AF 15 is of course the better long-term book to have, but anyone holding onto a TMNT #1 is going to have more money than what they invested into the book years from now. Ten years from now, yes TMNT #1 will be selling at higher levels, especially 9.6 and below. Hulk #181 is a perfect example of what I am referring to which is stable growth in all grades except 9.8. There is a heck of a lot more TMNT fans out there than 3k so unless my math is off then demand out weighs supply I would think. I'm sorry but this is just simply not true. All you have to do is look at the various auction results on heritage. Sure, you will see a lower grade sale at say $600 for example in 2006, maybe another book in the same grade sold for $1200 in 2012. But the sales prices in the 9.0+ grades have absolutely been flat and have even decreased over a 7 year period or so, with only a recent spike in prices that is due to this movie that is coming out. This data only proves the point. Yes there are more than 3000 turtle fans out there, but the vast, vast majority of them will be buying the action figures and lunch boxes, and the newer comic books to read and enjoy, not eight thousand dollar comic books. At those higher grades you are very obviously having speculator activity rolling the dice on the movie. The turtles aren't even as popular or as influential of a character as wolverine, iron man, or any first tier marvel character, none of those comparisons hold up. I would say to anyone buying a TMNT 1 now there is a far greater likelihood that the book will be worth less than it is now, in that 5-10 year window or perhaps the same, in a best case scenario. Meanwhile it would literally take an industry wide slump for me to say the same about an AF 15. In other words, TMNT 1 could decline in value and very few in the hobby would notice or care or even question why. It would simply be chalked up to the little mini speculative bubble it has been in the last several months bursting. TMNT 1 is certainly not the "must have" destination book to many collectors. But an across the board and sudden devaluation in AF 15's would create an industry wide panic and have a massive ripple effect. Macro vs micro. -J. So you are using Heritage instead of GPA? Ok then by that logic I lost money then on my AF 15 4.0 cause the last sale was well under 8k just yesterday right? STOP comparing the books we established that logic days ago. My disagreement with you is your logic on the long-term value of TMNT #1 Let me take you back to economic class then....... Go to GPA and tell me what trend you see for this book in 7.5, 7.0 and 6.0 inthe past 10 years. See the upward "blue chip" trend?......yes very good student. BTW AF 15's prices just like Oil prices ($4.00 soon my middle class friends) are just as manipulated as everything else in the business market. Probably not the best example to use if you're trying to disprove this book is in a speculative bubble. Take 6.0 - from 2004 to 2012 it sold for between $358 and $750. Last sale was $1,950
  3. This very fact should be alarm bells and shows TMNT is just the latest hot book that everyone suddenly has to have, which also means that pretty soon everyone will have moved on to the next hot book. Having sold high grade TMNT #1's through the boards, I can tell you there was nowhere near this level of interest 3 years ago.
  4. Best packaging I have ever received for an international shipment. Thanks for a perfect transaction !
  5. Bought a run of CA from Barton. Books arrived in 2 working days from the US, superbly packed and with an average grade of NM+. A class act ! (thumbs u
  6. The #1 9.9 on Comiclink just ended at $7,600 While Comiclink's probably not the best place to sell this, there's also a 9.9 on Ebay with no bids at $10k with 1 day to go. Both are "White Label", so it looks like the recent $16k sale was purely down to that being a "Black Label" copy and someone wanting the best of the best. It looks like those that sold their White Label for Black Label copies were wise to do so as there's now a gulf between them and I only see that widening as time goes on.
  7. You ever tempted to jump back on ?
  8. You're joking right ? This is nowhere near as good as the A-Team. (or Knight Rider)
  9. Heroes season 1 was awesome, particularly the whole Sylar storyline. What a great villain..... It went badly wrong in season 2. If they'd have kept it as a 1 season show it would be much more highly regarded than it is today.
  10. Agreed. It's like Marvel's Agents of G.L.E.E. or S.H.I.E.L.D. 90210. They've got a couple of token grown-ups in the cast, but it's mostly good-looking kids to go after the younger CW network demographic. But, it shows at 8pm and is about as edgy as a bowling ball. It's just not working. Coulson is clearly a clone/android/LMD. Either that or Clark Gregg is the worst actor of all time, as he's playing the role with robotic-like stiffness. I suspect it's intentional, but to have an unglamorous, middle-aged dude purposely acting without charisma in the lead role is just adding unnecessary blandness to the already bland show (Agents of B.L.A.N.D.?) I'm not sure how Ming-Na Wen (5'4" on a good day and nearly 50 years old) got cast in her role; she's just not a credible a$$-kicker to me. Brett Dalton as Ward is about as useful to the show as a chocolate teapot - could they have found a blander side of beefcake for the part? The rest of the cast could have been rejects from any show on the CW network, with the exception that two of them have foreign accents. This show is proving to be the worst of all worlds - a horrifically sucky show that I feel compelled to watch because it's S.H.I.E.L.D. (was always a big fan of the comics). I mean, AoS is making that Nick Fury movie starring Hasselhoff look good. Hopefully it will get even worse so I will have no choice but to drop it from my viewing rotation, because I can't see it getting good enough to be worth watching on its own merits. I've already deleted it from "series link". If it was called anything other than S.H.I.E.L.D. would anyone here still be watching this series ? Like everyone else, I was hoping it would feature some Marvel characters, you know, seeing as it's based on the Marvel universe. Without those, I don't see any point in watching (for all the reasons given).
  11. Has it been clarified why the cratering is primarily on the back cover ?
  12. Class of 2003. Some great names that year.
  13. If Joey's the seller then I have no doubt it's genuine and can only say congrats and
  14. Closer to $8k more actually. I stand corrected - I should probably read more thoroughly. I still can't afford it! Who was the seller? A dealer or 'just' a random ebayer? I don't recognize the seller but he is badged up like a dealer on Ebay. My initial thought was this sale had to be fake and that we'd see the seller or a friend re-selling this in a few weeks with the $19,000 "sale" recorded in GPA as a reference point. Having checked the sellers feedback though, there've been some pretty big books there like an ASM #50 9.6 for best offer on $12,500 so he may be legitimate.
  15. All I can hope is that some day some industrious Economics Student does a google search on their Economics Professor, manages to put two and two together, and then facefarks him with this wall of deliciousness. It appears he was also the buyer on the first HFH #1 9.8 copy that cost him over $10k. The most recent 9.8 sold for $2,300
  16. It's funny but there are loads of people who will pay $4k for this book, but very few who'll pay $5k and over. I guess that's why the spreads have diminished hugely between the sub-9.4 copies and and the 9.4's. Every grade has shot up in value whilst the 9.4's are pretty much where they've always been.
  17. A 9.6 White just sold for $6,911 on Comiclink Jan auction. Seller netted $6220.
  18. ...here you go: This was my LCS when I was a kid.
  19. There's a 9.4 W in the next Comic Connect auction, I wonder what that'll go for ? The last 9.4 sold for $220k-odd...
  20. I bought, pressed, resubmitted, and resold r100comics 9.6(W) copy. It is now a CGC 9.8(W). It only took you 6 months to build the courage to pull the trigger.....
  21. The $10,100 and $9,800 sales were in November when there were 7 x 9.9's, so not sure why 1 more copy will make any difference ? There are a lot more than 8 people looking for this book in highest grade. The two previous sales established the benchmark at $10k (when it was previously at $7k) so i could see this copy going to the next level and bringing in $12k+.
  22. Thor #165 all the way. One of the best covers of the Silver Age and one of the toughest books to find in high grade.
  23. IIRC the last 9.8 on Comiclink sold for $12k and the one before that at $14k so I think prices are being impacted by more and more 9.8's hitting the census. The Heritage copy also probably won't be helped by the fact there's another 9.8 in the November Comiclink auction as well.
