  1. Book ended at $6777. Wow. I wonder how much of that price is attributable to the small doodle that they included with the book. -J. I doubt the doodle had much affect on the price. The book itself was really sharp, rich colors and a perfect wrap. I think picky collectors are starting to realize the wrap on this book is difficult in high grade, most people keep the nice ones and when they do come out for auction a premium is paid. I believe this is why there is such a variance in the realized prices at times. You nailed it. I'm the one who won this book last night. I've been looking to buy this (not holy) Grail of mine for a long time, and none of the previous books struck me as "the right one". I saw this book, and knew it had to be mine. No idea why, haha. It just felt like the right book. I overpayed, no doubt. But to be honest, this book is extrememly important to me (2nd favorite character since I started collecting comics as a kid), and I'm never going to sell it anyway. I went for the GS XM #1 too, but my bid on that got smoked. The prices for these books were way more than I had anticipated. Anyway, here she is. My new pride and joy. I'm not sure if this will have any impact on 9.6 sales of copies with lesser qualities but this has the 3 things buyers look for on a #181: Fire engine red White Pages Nicely centered It's tough to find a copy with all 3 so don't worry about the cost and (thumbs u
  2. This blue / grey variance is real and it's also seen on early Marvel's. J.I.M. #83, #115 and #117 come to mind.
  3. The seller specified Paypal only, however the first by PM was conditional on him accepting money order, so not a real .
  4. Am I missing the point ? Valiant left $$ on the table to satisfy his format, this isn't a model I see other sellers rushing to follow.
  5. I'll take your $100, though that's a lot of additional conditions you added. If you do go through with this you may learn that CGC don't give out Copper 9.9's as easily as you think. I've only ever had two but they were both doozies.....ASM #238 and X-Men #211.
  6. The implication is that you hype the books you own and, whilst you are 100% right to point out shilling, that you don't apply the same level of scrutiny to books you own as those you don't choosing to only highlight high sales. I have never owned a BA #12 or NM #98 and don't shill.
  7. I find it odd that you question the "integrity" of someone who is pointing out obvious shill activity on the only two CGC auctions going on right no on ebay for this book, and not the shillers themselves. And I wasn't aware that owning a book was a pre-requisite for doing so. I don't "hate" any book, I hate shillers. It's disturbing to witness the obvious pump and dump on books, over and over and over again. I mean really, if a book has the cred, it should be able to stand on its own two feet without being shilled and pumped. This is market manipulation at its worse, and it is bad for the hobby, and frustrating for legitimate buyers. I doubt there isn't a single person here who has not been the victim of a shill at least once. I'm not sure what you are referring to about me "pumping" other books in other threads. I do not sell comic books. Are there other books being shilled right now on ebay? Obviously. I am usually the first one to point out the latest AF 15 scam. I pinpoint scams quite frequently on the boards. Whether I own the book or not. Perhaps you missed the MP 4/7 thread over in the comic magazines section. There's also entire threads on the "bubble bursting" on NM 98 and Walking Dead in CG. Are you saying that BA 12, a book seemingly having tripled in price in a couple months, together with relentless carnival barking on these boards by people who have copies to sell, shouldn't raise more than a few red flags and eyebrows as well? If you think Hulk 1 and/or ST 110 are being shilled as well, feel free to point it out. Although it is much harder to shill higher end, less frequently traded books such as those because they are sold on many other sites than just ebay. Ebay is the garbage dump for shills, and books like BA 12 and NM 98 are easy targets for them, as they are very plentiful and frequently traded, and not so expensive as to be out of reach for a casually interested buyer to take a shot at in an auction, and possibly get bid up unnecessarily (and unfairly) by a shill. By the way after you mentioned Hulk 1 and ST 110 I went back and looked at the last 90 days for those. Yes there are a few re-lists for a couple of Hulk 1's, and one for an ST 110. But those do not get recorded by GPA, you do know that, right? Therefore those few re-lists do not move the needle on the market, or impact the sales data at all. In situations like that it is just as likely that a buyer did not pay. And if you need anymore "evidence" that these two BA 12's currently at auction are being shilled, take a look at the prior auctions for the same books: http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=251767023140&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565 http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=221646456494&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565 That is some blatantly scandalous BS right there. -J. You are joking, right ? You've been the chief cheerleader on the movie hype books. I've lost count of the number of times you've posted the icon to trumpet a high sale on books you own whilst ignoring all the lower / suspicious sales and constantly calling shill on the books I presume you don't own.
  8. It didn't sell at $9,500 got re-listed at $17,000 and then "sold"........
  9. I bought some color guides from Ryan and he was great to deal with. Excellent communication, fast shipping to the UK and awesome packaging !
  10. It's possible, if that were the only major defect. Either take a Green 9.x or Blue 7.5.
  11. Because more corrected labels weren't the result of the flood of CGC 9.8 copies and 9.8 floods from CGC never drive down prices (regardless of any issue notes on the label) and that's not the argument you're making about ASM 361 second prints? Actually that has happened multiple times (hulk 181 and x men 94 being two of the most high profile and notorious examples I can think of right off the top of my head). It is generally know that it is a spectacularly bad idea to seek out and pay beyond top dollar for a book simply because it currently "appears rare" or "rare in high grade" on the census. At least if you are concerned about "not losing money on the deal". Particularly with copper age books, where there is very little that is actually "rare". -J. Sandman 8b ?
  12. http://www.ebay.com/itm/201188332468?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Isn't this the same table robojo33 used for his scans?
  13. Somewhat bearish on the turtles are we? -J. I've noticed less WTB threads on TMNT #1 recently and more FS threads with the books going unsold (even after repeated price drops).
  14. Census now for the record is: Batman Adventures CGC Universal 10.0 zero copies 9.9 zero copies 9.8 98 copies 9.6 84 copies 9.4 47 copies 9.2 23 copies 9.0 13 copies 8.5 7 copies 8.0 3 copies From what raws Ive seen on ebay, the chances of 9.8s increasing is going to be slim. I would expect to see a rise in submissions though and you will see the lesser grades rise. Currently NM98 has 1,081 and WD1 has 519 cgc 9.8 universals in comparison at this time. Also keep in mind that there was also a direct release (bar code) version (not noted by CGC) but is certainly much harder to find in high grade and as time marches onward and this book develops into a modern mega key, the bar coded copies of this issue will rise above the other. Almost one year later of Harley Mania, curious to see the increase in submissions for each grade of this book..... Batman Adventures CGC Universal 10.0 zero copies still 0 copies 9.9 zero copies still 0 copies 9.8 98 copies 232 copies 9.6 84 copies 240 copies 9.4 47 copies 127 copies 9.2 23 copies 65 copies 9.0 13 copies 52 copies 8.5 7 copies 31 copies 8.0 3 copies 12 copies 7.5 13 copies 7.0 4 copies 6.5 10 copies 6.0 2 copies 5.5 2 copies 5.0 4.5 4.0 3.5 1 copy 3.0 1 copy 2.5 2.0 1.8 1.5 1.0 0.5 Honestly, I thought there would be a lot more 9.8 / 9.6 copies on the census.Still just not enough to go around. Lord help us if there's ever a movie announcement, if Deadpool's "increased" popularity the past week is any indication.
  15. That is cool. (thumbs u Anyone have one of these to sell me or know where I can find one ?
  16. I'd be amazed if there weren't still 500 in existence. In fact I can't see any reason why more than 10% of the print run was lost or destroyed. Very few people are looking for this book which is why there are so few on the census. The fact you just paid $1,000 for a 9.6 doesn't make it rare, no matter how many times you repeat yourself.
  17. Isn't current Overstreet based on last years prices ? Why do you keep referencing recent #181 sales ? #181 has obviously heated up in the last year but that has no relevance to the current OS.
  18. There's also spine rub on the top half of the book, the only flaw visible on the smaller scan (apart from 1 spine stress).
  19. Also moderate spine rub, top half of the book, still looks harsh at 8.0 though.
  20. I loved those issues then and the 8 year old in me still loves them now. Great battle issues are what got me into comics in the first place and this was an epic battle story arc.
  21. Don't know if this has been posted but in the opening scene of Cape Fear, where Max Cady is doing press-ups in his cell and you see his Truth / Justice tattoo, he has Black Bolt and Captain Marvel pages pinned to the wall.
