I saw a small piece but it wasn't a "must have". Decided to hold off and maybe I could get it on Sunday if was still available. It's been sold. So one less thing for me to worry about.
heh.. I think maybe 1 or 2 pieces I bought are "must have", the rest are probably more like nice to have but I bought them because I have been busy so no time to look for art. One piece I pulled the trigger too fast because I didn't read the description carefully, but at least it was my cheapest purchase.

I might as well start a thread since I didn't see one.
How did everyone do? I didn't set up this time as my sell pile is super low.
I did buy a lot more than expected, at least 5 pieces and likely 7. I would mention it here but I don't like to talk about art I got until it's in hand

I've just purchased my first piece of comic art via auction. the page has arrived and am looking at it now while I type.
Unfortunately, the previous owner still has the piece up in their CAF gallery, listed as NFS?!!?
What does one do in these situations? Kindly ask them to remove it I presume? ...And what if they refuse to do so?
In theory you are supposed to only show art you own on CAF (unless you are an artist with commission samples). As others have stated you can politely ask the owners, most of the time it is an oversight on their part and they will take it down.
Others will refuse however, either they will just ignore you, or insist that they don't claim ownership but want to show art they previously owned. Not much more you can do.

Is this the same guy that inked for Jack Kirby and Gene Colan?
I'll say it now because this has a similar tone to a previous series of posts
Are these your consignments?

Heh, I had a similar experience, but when they say good it's not the English definition but the comic grading definition

Wow, we've already convicted and sentenced the guy...because guilty until proven innocent?
Those in the profession, even in the cesspool that Illinois is, should be holding themselves to a higher standard.
When I read his initial post, I thought he meant it would be tied up (e.g. the guy is busy and won't get to it for a year)

I don't think prelim is the right word either.
Looks like a first and unused attempt at the page. Unpublished.
Heh, the question was whether or not it should have been labelled as such.
I have to see the whole listing to decide (sorry if that screenshot was the whole listing). In my mind if you cite an issue and page number, it implied that it is published and if it is an unused version you should say so.

I think the missing info was price, which was added later in the thread.

I really love Gerald Parel's art, and so I jumped on his commission list ( $1500 ) for an A3 figure.
IMO, it didn't deliver. I actually hated it for the price I paid. So, I had the facilitator sell it for $1250. They took a 20% cut of the sale, so I ended up losing $500 and getting $1000 back. Lesson learned.
Later it sells on HA for $480 (which includes the BP) lol.
Looks like you were lucky to be able to net $1K out of it! Congrats (better than you directly selling it for $480.. which would leave you with $300'is!

This is a bigger disappointment than the time when Comic Connect pulled the ASM 129 cover from auction
Was that cover actually auctioned? IIRC there was a news release saying it was going to be auctioned and never was.

Yep. I really wish eBay would segregate the porny pinups away from the published pages.
I think ebay should just bring back the listing fee.
No listing fee leads people to fish and list things at unrealistic prices with no consequence (to them, for us we have to wade through things)

And, once, ONCE, I did manage to find a pair of wayward pages to complete a book. That had its own reward - like a puzzle piece clicking into place in my heart.
But, it's all unquantifiable. Only you know how you feel.
Also, the longer you wait to decide, the higher the price could go. The market keeps shifting.
There are quite a few collectors who can say they have a complete book. But the opportunity is ultimately still pretty uncommon. The complete books I have I bought complete.
There was one book that I tried to complete. It wasn't a special book, but I did enjoy reading it and I I bought a large portion of the issue in one fell swoop. Since the pages were cheap I thought it would be neat to complete a book. After awhile I realized that I was just completing it for the sake of completing it and was paying higher and higher prices for pages that I did not truly love, so I gave up.

All three did not care about that deal.</rant> 20 years later I am still trying to piece together the full issue but with the market as it now the page is super expensive. I don't think it is going for more than expected, unlike the other story in this thread, just that I am not sure if it is worth being a completist unless doing so would increase the overall value. If can get the last piece I will never break it up. If cannot I am not sure what I will do with other pages.
I don't believe there is a premium for complete issue, rather it is a discount.
People break up books because it fetches more.

I track thew following data in my spreadsheets.
I have 2 OWNED Artwork spreadsheets
1 Sorted by Date
1 Sorted by Artwork Title
The fields are
Artwork Purchase Date Price Paid Asking Price Media Type Art Type Penciler Inker Provenance
I have 2 SOLD Artwork spreadsheets
1 Sorted by Date
1 Sorted by Artwork Title
The fields are
Artwork Purchase Date Price Paid Sold Date Sold For Media Type Art Type Profit
Stupid question, but why don't you have 1 spreadsheet and then sort it any way you want, why create a duplicate with a different sort order?

I'm done for today (I think).
Bought 1 piece, a lot less than the 7 I bought yesterday, but today's was a higher end piece (e.g. 1/3 the value of the combined 7 I bought yesterday).
Overall I think I was surprised as to how much I bought and I'm still pleased this show is happening.
