  1. Hey, isn't this the issue with the first app. of Uncle Ben and Aunt May? Yes Well..Yes and No... Its an appearance of An "Aunt May & Uncle Ben" drawn by Mr. Ditko, but this is not the couple who lived in Forrest Hill, Queens. This May and Ben lived in a remote sea-side cottage and had a very "fishy" wheelchair bound niece. so I guess they are prototypes........ and CGC prob does say something like that on the notes for this issue. BTW this is an amazing cover. wow. Had to say it again. Here is CGC stance on this book Forget "Aunt May & Uncle Ben", CGC should put one of those: "Classic Cover" monikers on this beaut! Bill
  2. OOO..Very nice. Once of my favorite washtones!
  3. Another nice book...almost, as nice as mine...

  5. Most impressive. Those are some swell books you have there. Is your goal to obtain a full HG CGC pre-hero collection? You seem well on your way! Congrats, Bill
  6. Love the Heath wash-tones on those early Sea-Devils. There is just something magical about this book to us Silver Age enthusiasts... Bill
  7. For those who may have missed it...here is the Kirby Thor story from TOTU #16. To my knowledge, its never been reprinted. Enjoy!
  8. Cool books! Were these part of a long-time single owner collection or aquired over time? I collect Arkham Lovecraft books (among others) from the 50s & 60s and love a good story as to how such collections are put together.
  9. How did you score those Gnomes, dude?
  10. So what's the story about the Gnomes? I love a good story!
  11. Nothing like joining the club with a real bang. Must be a very nice book to read through. I don't know if anyone else enjoys this particular aspect of reading an old book, but I take my time over reading the indicia: Issue Number and Date of Publication. Vol. 1, No. 1, January 1959, will always a special read. I have always thought that Tales to Astonish and Tales of Suspense were put together by Lee, with Kirby and Ditko in mind, as nuanced niche replacements for the then recently cancelled sci-fi titles, World of Fantasy and Strange Worlds. TTA and TOS, with Strange Tales and Journey into Mystery, guaranteed Kirby a reasonable monthly page count, especially as Kirby replace Maneely as House cover artist. Ahh yes... it certianly is a nice club.
  12. Love that cover...Kind of reminds me of the Watcher's digs in the Blue Area of the Moon!
  13. The sad thing is I still don't have a copy of that book yet. Whenever a copy comes around I have been tight on cash so I am still looking for a copy. I would look to recreate some of the great Atlas horror covers..MENACE had some great covers....or maybe some of the classic VENUS covers. I would like to see Josh's take on the goddess of luv! Bill
  14. Both of those covers are much different than what Kirby and Ditko normally drew. Artistically, I really like and prefer the Kirby. Hmmm. The more I look at this cover, I believe that its a partial wash-tone - to simulate the underwater effect.
  15. Love those Johnny Thunder covers... Here is some more Toth Atom Age goodness:
  16. Here is a new book I picked up. There is not enough love out there for those early issues with that ol' Time Master, Rip Hunter! That cover kind of reminded me of THIS cover: CIRCE ROCKS!!!
  17. That would be TOTU #16 with the Thor character...#22 could be called a weak "Lava men" prototype! -- I believe I posted the entire "Thor" story earlier in this thread.
  18. I'd like to read that one Originally I thought this had some kind of tie-in with the giant ant movie, THEM!, but it does not. The plot involves some jingoistic Plutonians who attempt to take over the earth by subsitiuting themselves for statues sulpted by a dupped earthman. Typical DC fantasy yarn! Bill
  19. I feel your pain. All I need is a high-grade WW 101 to complete my collection, but it has proved quite elusive. Bill
